All About Val
Valgarv is the main villain of Slayers Try. This guy is a walking mass of complexes. But that's somewhat understandable when you consider all he's been through.
. . .
Once upon a time there was an ancient dragon named Valtier. His entire race was destroyed by the gold dragons. He found himself dying alone in the desert. Then Gaav, the Demon Dragon King appeared before him. He gave Valtier a choice: become a Mazoku and join him, or die. Valtier opted to join Gaav, and was reborn as Valgarv. Although technically a Mazoku, he can still transform into a dragon (although the transformation is incredibly painful). He then continued his life as Gaav's loyal servant, and they lived happily ever after. At least until Gaav was killed by Hellmaster Phibrizzo for rebelling against Shabranigdo and trying to take over the Mazoku race.
. . .
The genocide of the ancient dragons deeply scarred Valgarv. It was this event that eventually caused him to seek to destroy the world by summoning the dark lord 'Dark Star'. The death of Gaav was the second traumatic turning point in Valgarv's life. This caused him to try to kill Lina Inverse, who he blamed for Gaav's death.
. . .
In Slayers Try, Valgarv raises hell for the heroes. He succeeds in resurrecting Dark Star, but in the end his plan goes awry. The heroes save the day and the world is not destroyed. But instead of dying, which tends to happen to monsters who confront the Slayers, he is reborn. Filia, the gold dragon priestess, then takes it upon herself to give Val a second chance at life and adopts him. Maybe with a little TLC, Val won't turn out to be quite so maladjusted.
