Show Time!

The teachers that Snyder 'volunteered' glared at the little dictator troll, but said nothing.

Giles tried again."Principal Snyder, I am sure that there are others that are more qualifii-"

Snyder looked at him."No. You are the director of the Annual Song and Dance Competition and that's that. So get cracking, people."

*****

Giles laid his head down on the library table and groaned as Buffy looked on sympathetically. She squelched the urge to grin at him."There, there, Giles, it can't be all that bad."

Giles lifted his head up and glared at the Slayer."It's terrible. It's horrific. *I've* got to make sure that the talents that are in the show do not embarass themselves,  emcee the blasted show and make sure that there are no extra paranormal hijinks on that night!"

Buffy rolled her shoulders as she tried to get the kinks out."It's only a show, Giles, not the prophecy of Armageddon. Jeez, did I really say that?"

Giles merely glared at her."After what happened last year during the Annual Talent Show, do you *rarelly* expect nothing to happen?"

Just as Buffy rolled her eyes, the rest of the Scooby gang walked in. Xander happily bounced up to the still morose Giles."Hey, Giles, what's with the long?"

Willow gave Xander an admonishing look to be quiet before she looked at Giles sympathetically."Heard that you're in charge of the Annual Song and Dance Competition. Bummer."

"Giles is worried that there are going to be paranormal hijinks going to go on that night,"Buffy said wryly."As if there aren't any on any other night in this merry town of Sunnydale."

"Well, there was Sid and the organ demon on Talent Show night,"Willow said hesitantly."And then Darryl Eps at the opening football game, and-"

“Then the Order of Teraka on Career Week,”Xander added. Buffy glared at him.”Then wasn’t there-”

"See! My point exactly!"Giles said as his head lifted."Between all the paranormal, how am I going to keep everything sane?"

"Like it's totally sane where we are anyway?"Cordelia said as she looked at her nails."Bummer, Giles! maybe you can, like, relocate? Is that nail chipped, Xander? What?"

Buffy looked at the May Queen then looked at her disturbed Watcher. "Anyway, Giles, maybe some large paranormal will wipe us off the earth before anything happens?"

Giles merely glared at her."Are you trying to make me feel better?"

Xander looked at his girl friend carefully before he looked at Giles."At least you don't have to find judges, because the school board always chooses them from visiting alumni. Those that survived Sunnydale High, that is."

Oz interjected."So now a part of that's settled. What's this with the paranormal hijinks?"

Giles sighed as he gathered his briefcase."Something is bound to happen. I can feel it in my bones, and I have complete faith in the Hellmouth to do something on that night. If not them, then definitely the vampires."

Buffy patted her Watcher on the shoulder."Well, if it'll make you feel better, I volunteer to be a part of the stage crew. What did I just say?"

"You just said that you were going to be a part of the stage crew,"Giles said quickly, and walked to the doors just as quickly."And thank you, that would be most appreciated."

Buffy gaped open her mouth as she hurriedly followed him."No! Wait-"

"Summers! My troublesome delinquent! Just the one I wanted to see! And with your entourage, no less,"Synder called out. Buffy looked at him as if he was a rattlesnake about to strike."You are volunteering to put on a show for the Annual Song and Dance Competition-"

"I can't!"Buffy said quickly."I already volunteered for the stage crew!"

Snyder shut his open mouth."What?"

Buffy spoke quickly and tried to look sorry."Mr. Giles had requested aid for the stage crew, so I volunteered. And so did everyone else. Well, except Cordelia. She's, ah, she's-"

"Involved definitely in putting on a performance in the competition,"Cordelia smiled weakly. Snyder glared at her, then at Summers.

"I don't believe this!"he snarled at them."You? Volunteer?"

"Oh, please believe it, Principal Snyder. That's why they were chasing me down just now,"Giles said from behind the smaller troll. The troll glared at him."I wasn't willing to gain their aid, but they convinced me that they could be quite an asset to the, uh, stage crew. And Ms. Chase is most informed about the judges that are about to come here."

Snyder straightened his jacket."Fine then. Summers, you had better do a good job being in the stage crew. Remember, the competition is in a month."

With one last glare, the troll left. Buffy stuck her tongue out at his retreating back. Giles tsked her."Not very adult, Buffy."

Buffy looked at her Watcher and then stuck her tongue out at him.

*****
Spike sighed as he read the newspaper. Nothing seemed to be going on in Sunnyhell. Only some big local event at the high school tomorrow night, and a bunch of articles about that competition. Been going on for the past month. Big ho-hum. He threw the paper away from him in disgust. He stretched his legs a bit, at least it was getting easier to move them around a bit. Now he can stand, if only for a few moments. He quickly retracted his legs when he heard a sound.

"Spike? Spike?"Drucilla called out. Then she smiled at him when she spotted him near the entrance to their room."Spike, my sweet! There you are! Mummy's got something for you! See! Isn't it a precious kitty?"

As Drucilla stroked the black and white striped animal, Spike looked at the gift she offered him warily."Is it still alive, pet?"

Drucilla looked at him, a hurt look on her face."Of course it is! I wouldn't give my favorite Spike a dead animal. But I had to hit it with a rock so that I could get it. It jus wouldn't listen to my calls."

Spike smiled bravely at her as he backed away from her a bit. "And just where did you get this, pet?"

"In the forest. Behind the cemetery, silly! Or was it near the school? Anyway, the kitty was roaming there so I picked it up!"Drucilla said as she rubbed her face into the fur."Isn't it the most precious thing? But it smells so! I think the kitty needs a bath!"

Spike smiled weakly at her."Why don't you get the water running love, and I'll watch your kitty."

Drucilla smiled brightly as she left. Spike stared at the unconscious skunk, wondering what he should do with it. He looked around quickly, then rolled over to a pile of debris and stuffed the animal in the burlap bag he spotted.

"Well, Spike, what do you have there?"Angel said as he strolled in. Spike got an unholy idea in his undead head.

"Nothing that you would be interested in, Angel. How was the hunt?"Spike asked as he wrapped the bag loosely and set it to his lap. Angel narrowed his eyes as he looked at the younger vampire.

"It was fine. Didn't encounter sweet Buffy, though. Anyway, it's a pity that I didn't see her,"Angel shrugged. His eyes narrowed when Spike made a noise in his throat."What?"

"Nothing,"Spike said as he fiddled with the bag once more. He hid a smile as he felt Angel's eyes watch his hands."Go on. So you didn't see the Slayer, eh? Too bad , I guess. Hello, boys! How was the hunt?"

Angel's eyes narrowed."Yeah, it is too bad for her. What was that look for?"

"Well, if you say so, mate,"Spike said innocently."I mean, you don't meet the Slayer while hunting? Seems to me that you aren't her top priority right now."

Angel stared Spike as he continued."I mean, she isn't hunting for you. She isn't plotting to get back your soul. She isn't around where you are. In fact, it seems that you seem to go to her far more often that she to you. But her hunting you? Nothing. So I guess that you're not as important anymore."

"I am the *most* important thing her damned Slayer life!"Angel gritted out."I am Angelus, the Scourge of Europe! The bane of Europe!!"

"You *were* the Scourge of Europe. The *bane* of my unlife! Now you're just one of the ignored in Sunnyhell,"Spike corrected."Look, mate, you don't even get gifts from Drucilla!"

Angel snatched the bag from Spike's lap and threw it to one of the listening  minions."Take this to the van. I'll open it there, *after* I kill the Slayer tomorrow night. And, you are coming with me, just to see me kill the bitch."

Spike simply shrugged."Are you sure that you won't need back up?"

Angel glared."*I* won't need back up to take care of sweet Buffy. I'll take care of her myself, and we'll take six volunteers along, so that *they* can get the story right. Got that, you Undead Volkswagen?"

Spike shrugged."Whatever you say, Angelus. I'll just bring my own car, just so that you can mope about, er, I mean, plan to do something about the Slayer while in the van."

*****

Buffy nailed the last of the offending pieces of wood as Giles walked into the auditorium with the judges in tow. She handed the last piece to Xander as he and Oz stood it up."There! That's it! Now, do you have any music we can play while putting the last touches on the signs?"

Xander shook his head."A negative on that, Buffster. Got up late this morn, and I grabbed the wrong tape by accident. Got my Mom's favorite musicals tape instead. So unless you want to hear stuff from Broadway shows, zip on the tunes. Is that end straight, Oz?"

Buffy stood as she made a face."Lift your side more, Xander. The *only* tunes I know from Broadway and never want to hear again is the stuff from 'Guys and Dolls', did it for my sixth grade play, and man, am I sick of it! Had to overdose on Depeche Mode and the new wave station before I could be sane again!"

"Man, that's harsh!"Oz said as he straightened his end."But then, those tunes could really get stuck in you! Kinda like a dormant fungus! Which is sometimes cool, if you're really into fungi."

Xander looked at Oz."You've been hanging with Willow too much! Now where's the paint? There it is!"

Giles coughed discreetly. When Buffy, Xander and Oz looked at him, he resumed his host role towards the judges."And this is the stage crew, the ones that have abominable musical tastes. Buffy, everyone, I'd like you to meet the judges for tonight: Ms. Brendon, Mr.Hannigan, Ms.Antony and Mr.Green."

Buffy noticed that for people on the plus side of forty, kinda like the age of her dad and Giles, these people looked pretty well formed."Hi! So...how do you like the new and improved Sunnydale?"

The pretty red-haired woman, Alyson Brendon, laughed."Pretty much the same when we left. The Bronze is still here. As well as some other things."

"And so, wonder of wonders, is the school,"David Stewart Green said wryly, then he winced when Sarah Antony elbowed him. Xander and Oz looked at him as he passed off a weak smile."Always wondered what changes the, ah, school board would do to it."

Seth Hannigan looked at his colleague and smiled at the youngsters."He means that when we left, there were rumors that the school would be torn down and a new one built."

"I think that rumor still exists,"Willow said as she came up the stage carrying a lot of paint brushes. Oz went forth to help her up."In fact, I just heard that there was going to be a new auditorium going to be built in honor of you four. Buffy, this paint jar is stuck, can you open it?"

Buffy took the jar of neon blue paint from Willow and started to open it.Sarah Antony smiled brightly as she rolled her eyes."Glad to see that the rumor mill is still in working order."

"Er, yes, well,"Giles coughed."What we are planning to do is after each performance, the students would go down the steps and into the reserved seats, so that they might enjoy the performances as well. You, as judges, will be seated into the front. And-"

"And we'll just go on decorating,"Buffy continued as she still struggled with the jar. She looked at Giles."We're almost done, but unless you want the paint will get on your clothes and then the trol-, uh, Principal Snyder will get into a *real* snit-"

"Summers!"shouted a voice from behind her. Buffy yelped as she spun around and the jar of paint opened...right on Principal Snyder's gray suit. Buffy's mouth opened in horror when her eyes took in the streak of neon blue on the troll's face and ears.

"Oh my! A blue man!"said Seth Hannigan reverently. Total silence was heard as Snyder glared at Buffy as he tried to wipe the paint off of his face, which made the paint cover his entire face.

"You'd, uh, better get that paint off of you before it dries,"Sarah Antony suggested as he took a step forward towards Buffy. Snyder glared at her, then stomped off the stage. Buffy weakly smiled her thanks to the judge.

"We'll leave you now,"Giles said quickly. Alyson Brendon looked at Buffy and smiled, then leaned over."He *really* looks like a blue troll, doesn't he?"

Buffy giggled weakly as the judges left. Xander looked at Buffy."Bet you're cursing a blue streak right now."

Willow took her paint brush and smacked him on the side of the head with it.

*****

"I'll do a quick round before I head towards the school,"Buffy said to the phone as she tied her black sneaker."And I'll be there on time for support, Willow. Tell Giles this when you get a chance. Thanks, bye!"

Buffy made one last sweep of her room before she bounded out the door.

*****

Angel drove the van around the Bronze, searching for the Slayer. When the minion reported that she wasn't in there, he growled with discontent. Spike parked next to the van."She isn't there? Maybe she *is* avoiding you, Angel. Or she's somewhere else. *With* someone else."

Angel growled at him."Stay still, Speed Racer, I'll find her tonight. Let's make a sweep at the cemetery, she might be there."

*****

Buffy finally lunged and staked the vampire. Then looked at her watch."Yipes! Nine o'clock! I'm late! Giles is gonna kill me!"

"No, he's not, sweetheart, I am,"Angel called out. Buffy turned at his voice and immediately went into a battle stance."But I'll make sure that he knows you were thinking about him!"

Buffy rolled her eyes at him."Oh please! Can we get on with this? I have things to do and places to be. I *cannot* waste my time with you tonight!"

Angel stared at Buffy with vile hatred then roared as he charged at her. Buffy quickly sidestepped the charge, and Angel went flying into the tombstone she was in front of."Ouch! I guess that hurt!"

As he quickly rolled over, he glared at her. Buffy was about to stake him when she heard a scream on the other side of the cemetery. Looking at Angel, then hearing violence on the otherside, Buffy simply blew the vampire a kiss. "Let's finish this later, Angel. See ya! Wouldn't want to be ya!"

Buffy quickly ran over the tombstones and disappeared into the night. Angel stared and then howled with outrage.

*****

Buffy leaped over the hedges and made a flying kick towards the two vampires that had a woman. As the vampires flung away from the victim, Buffy quickly rolled onto her feet. She sent out roundhouse kick that knocked down the vampire again, and grabbed her stake. She lunged it into the vampire in front of her as the one behind her grabbed her by the neck. Buffy flipped and then quickly staked the vamp.

After hurriedly making sure the woman was safe in her car, Buffy ran towards the direction of the school. Full sprint.

Angel growled loudly as he saw Buffy racing away and then ran to the direction of his van."I'll see you at school, Buffy."

*****

"Where's Buffy?"Willow whispered to Oz as she stood behind the curtains. "It's not like her to be this late!"

Oz rubbed Willow's arm in comfort."Maybe something unexpected came up! Man, that was a strange rendition of 'A Chorus Line' and 'One Night Only'."

"But the feathers with the sparklers were, uh, colorful. But were the feathers supposed to smoke?"Willow said."Now it's time for Cordelia's group, wonder what she's doing?"

"Xander said that she and the others are dancing to 'Footloose' and Meatloaf's song,'Paradise by the Dashboard Light'. Which, he said, was pretty energetic."

Willow looked at him."Wasn't that the one where there was a lot of moaning in the middle of a baseball game? And by the way, what was the significance of the moaning during that game? Was it for fun?"

"Something like that,"Oz said, then pointed."They're ready. Curtain."

As Willow worked the curtain controls, the strains of 'Footloose' was heard. Buffy breathlessly ran into the back of the stage."Did I miss anything?"

"Only feathers dancing to the tune of 'A Chorus Line', lotsa tumbling during the song of 'Chariots of Fire' and an out of control baton flung towards the audience while singing 'Over the Rainbow',"Oz informed her. Buffy stared at him with an open mouth.

"I thought that 'Chariots of Fire' was an instrumental?"

"Not in Amanda Roman's version. She and the track team did alot of shouting with it, too,"Oz said."But you're just in time for Cordelia's number, which is the last one for the night, by the way. What took you so long?"

"Too much slaying and Angel," Buffy said as she shrugged."Then I rushed here."

"Did I miss anything?"Willow demanded. Buffy simply shook her head.

"Hello, Buffy!" Angel greeted as the strains of 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light' filled the stage.

*****

Spike got out the car as the six vampires lounged around the van uncomfortably. He looked at the wankers and sighed."Where is the fool?"

"In the school. He said to wait here while he gets her,"one wanker informed him. Spike snorted.

"I for one am not waiting out here for him. I'm going in,"he said as he started to roll into the school."I'm not some fool that he can push around."

The other vampires looked at each other then followed Spike into the school.

*****

"Oh, hell, Angel! What do you want?" Buffy asked as she stepped forward, protecting Oz and Willow."Tell me that you're not here to see the show."

"The only show that I'm going to see is called 'The Death of Buffy Summers'. How's that for a show?"Angel snarled at her. As he lunged at Buffy, Oz shoved Willow behind him.

From across the otherside of the stage, Xander saw his friends be attacked by a psychotic Angel. He sighed with relief at the fact that the song was winding down, and quickly hit the stop button. He smiled apologetically as Harmony and two other girls with the hula hoops stopped twirling mid-hula and from the center of the raised platform, Cordelia stopped singing mid-line. "Xander!"

When she glared at him, he frantically pointed to the moving curtains and made a staking motion. For once, the gods of popularity blessed her with insight, and she smiled as she bowed to the clapping audience, leading her group towards the end of the stage as Xander hit the curtain controls on his side, and sighed with relief as he grabbed a stake. He froze when he heard a British accent.

"Nice work, mate. Now where's the bloody Slayer and Angel?"

When Xander turned then yelped as he took in the six ugly vamps behind Spike, Angel and Buffy flew out of the curtains, wrestling on the center of the stage. Buffy kicked Angel away from her, and quickly rolled to her feet. Her mouth widened as she saw Spike and his vamps. She turned to her side and saw Angel slinking towards his goons."Wha? Can't take me on by yourself, Angel?"

Willow and Oz came out running with her holding a broom and him a violin bow, looking from Buffy to Angel then Spike and his boys. Xander tried backpedal to the center of the stage as Spike ordered as he saw the two pals of the Slayer."Get them!"

The five vampires and Angel started towards the threesome as one grabbed Xander and shoved him against the wall. Spike rolled into the center of the stage determined to get into the fray.

One vampire lunged towards Willow, but miscalculated because his jacket got caught on to the handle of Spike's wheel chair. Spike swung around violently as the vampire lost his balance, and knocked into the other vampire next to him. Willow took advantage by whaping at both fallen vampires into unconsciousness with the broom. Another vampire grabbed her from behind, but Oz managed to stake him with his bow as another one grabbed him by the collar.

*****

"Xander!"Cordelia shouted as she jumped onto the back of the vampire that was about to bite his neck. As the vampire lost his grip on Xander and fell on top of Cordelia like a turtle, the floundering Xander hit the curtain controls. And the curtains started moving.

*****

Willow spun to slap the bristles of her broom at the face of the vamp that was trying to bite Oz. In surprise, he dropped Oz as Willow kept on swinging at the vamp's face. One fallen vamp crawled away from her swinging broom to run at Buffy. Willow stopped when bright lights hit her eyes, and her face rounded in horror as she realized what was happening."Oh, God! the curtains!"

*****
Buffy dusted the vampire that lunged at her, and stood face to face with her former lover."Hiya Angel! Wanna dance?"

"Be my pleasure!"Angel snarled at her as he was prepared to lunge at her. The spinning Spike spun to ram right into the Slayer and Angel. As Buffy fell onto Spike's lap, Angel flipped over and landed on his face as the bright lights hit him. Buffy stared in horror as she realized what was happening.

"The curtains!" she screeched in horror. Spike looked from her and stared at the faces he could see through the light.

"Devil it! What the *hell* is going on?"

*****

The lights blinded Giles as he smiled nervously at the clapping audience. "And now that the-What the..."

He saw the curtains start to move and his jaw dropped as it revealed Buffy in Spike's lap, Angel on the ground, Willow frozen in beating a vampire with a broom with Oz and two vampires at her feet and another behind her. Xander above the prostate forms of a vampire and Cordelia.  He looked weakly at the horrified faces of the judges."Ahem!! It seems we forgot to say that there is another group performing....ah!"

"Giles! No!"he heard Buffy hiss and the vampires growl at him. Giles smiled weakly at the audience."Here they are, ah, performing a, ah, rousing dance they call 'Disappearance' to the tune of, ah-"

Xander stuck in his mother's tape, and prayed as he hissed,"Guys and Dolls!"

"Guys and Dolls!"Giles finished."Let's give them a rousing applause!"

*****

Buffy's eyes widened as she heard the opening melody of "Guys and Dolls". She looked at the audience as she rose from Spike's lap. And sang loudly as the number started,"When you see a guy, reach for stars in the sky, you can bet that he's doing it for some doll! Spike sing!"

Spike rolled over Angel's leg and to the front of the stage and smiled as he sang."Bloody Hell! When you spot a John waiting out in the rain, Chances are he's insane as only a John could be for a Jane!"

Buffy sang as she pirouetted towards the vamp that was in front of Willow, grabbed him by the collar and gracefully and flung him at Angel, knocking him down again. Then she grabbed the other retreating vamp and threw him towards the area of Angel."When you see gent, paying all kinds of rent, for a flat that could flatten the Taj Mahal..."

That vamp went flying into Angel who was trying to stand, and knocked him down again. Buffy winced then smiled brightly, brought her hands up in the air and sang the next verse with Xander and Cordelia.

Cordelia and Xander grabbed the arms of the vamp that had once held them, and threw him towards Buffy as they sang,"Call it sad, call it funny, but you can bet it's even money that the guy's only doing it for some doll!"

Buffy twirled with her arms wide open catching the jaw of the flung vamp and then stopped gracefully as she punched an escaping vamp near the curtains in the jaw as she and Spike sang,"When you see a Joe and his cash has run low..."

"You can bet they'll be minking it for some doll!"Willow and Oz sang as they caught another vampire and twirled him quickly towards Buffy who promptly decked him."When a bum buys wine like a bum can't afford..."

"It's a cinch that the bum is under the thumb of some little broad,"Spike sang as he tried to roll off the stage. Xander and Cordelia saw Angel try to edge away from the stage, so they held each other in their arms and twirled to where he was, grabbed his arms and twirled him towards Spike who was trying to roll off stage.

As a vamp that Buffy had thrown rose to woozy consciousness, Oz and Willow waltzed their way to him and knelt down beside him as Oz held the violin bow at its heart. Willow hissed at the vamp,"Sing and twirl to my left towards Spike and Angel. Now!"

Buffy quickly sashayed towards him as she rolled Spike back towards the center stage to Xander and Cordelia as she sang,"When you met a mug, lately out of the jug, and he's lifting platinum folderol..."

"Call it Hell, Call it Heaven, It's a probable twelve to seven that the guy's doing it for some doll!"sang Spike as he glared at the two guards in the form of a pissant and princess. Then he glared at the also entrapped Angel."Sing you wanker!"

Angel smiled weakly at the audience as he rolled in quick circles with Spike, trying to loose Xander and Cordelia. He stopped when the vamp that Oz and Willow caught smashed into him."When you see a sport, and his cash has run short, you can bet, uh.."

"That he's been blowing it on some doll!"Oz sang as he picked up the stunned vamp, twirled him dizzily with Willow and shoved him off stage, where he was promptly staked.

Xander and Cordelia waltzed towards another vamp that was gaining consciousness and twirled him around quickly as they sang,"When you see a guy wearing tails with the front gleaming white..."

"Who the *heck* do you think he's been tickling pink on Saturday night?"Buffy sang as she punched out a vamp near her, then threw her arms up in the air dramatically. Then she grinned at the audience as she waltzed with an imaginary partner over to the platform where a vamp was crawling to.

"When some lazy slob, gets a good steady job..."Xander sang as he and Oz caught a vamp crawling towards the platform. After helping the vamp to his feet, they then threw him over the platform like two pals getting rid of garbage. Oz sang,"And he smells of Vitalis and Barbersol..."

"Call it dumb, Call it clever!" sang Willow and Cordelia held two ends of the broom  and plowed into Angel who was going near the curtains again as Buffy backflipped to the edge of the platform, and disappeared to where the vamp was. A slight scream was heard as Spike sang loudly,"Ah, but you could give odds forever!"

"That the guy's only doing it for some doll!" sang the four friends loudly as they met at the center of the stage, with Angel and three other vamps making a half circle around Spike.

Buffy stood on the platform, her arms outstretched as she joined in with the chorus."Some doll! Some doll! That the guy's only doing it for some doll!"

"Is it over now?" asked Spike as he smiled at the applause through his teeth.

Xander bowed slightly as he answered through his teeth,"There has to be another song. And damn it, it's..."

Angel groaned as he recognized the disgustingly cheerful tune."My Favorite Things...Hellfire! Whose tape is this? I'll kill the jackass!"

"Shut up and sing! Spike sing loud!" Buffy said as she joined the group and grabbed a vamp by his neck and waltzed with him towards the curtains as she and Spike sang,"Rain drops on roses and whispers on kittens..."

Buffy staked the vamp then waltzed back on to the stage alone. She was about to dance with the other vamp when he grabbed Willow and waltzed away with her."Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens..."

Oz grabbed Xander and both made to do a fake rumba towards Willow and the vamp as they sang."Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings...These are a few of my favorite things!"

Xander yelped when Oz suddenly dipped him. The audience snickered as Angel and Spike turned to glare at the two boys when they sang,"These are a few of my favorite things!"

"When the dog bites,"Buffy sang as she whipped out a stake and held it to Angel's back as he tried to twirl away with Spike. She twirled him and Spike quickly back towards the center of the stage.

"When the bees sting..."she sang sweetly as she glared at her former lover. Angel winced as he felt the stake dig into his back. He retaliated by grabbing her close to him, his hand on her butt. Buffy smiled as her hand lifted towards his face as if to caress him, then she yanked on his ear, hard."When I'm feeling bad..."

Angel's hand let go of her butt as he yelped when he sang with her and Spike in chorus, "When I'm feeling bad!"

"When I'm feeling bad..."Cordelia sang as she twirled over to the safer side of Buffy."I simply remember a few of my favorite things..."

Oz and Xander finally caught up to Willow and the dancing vamp, and joined the two in a circle. Willow pretended to trip over the vamps feet as they fell back into the curtains. Oz and Xander disappeared, then reappeared with a dusty Willow in arms as they sang,"And then I don't feel so bad!"

There was a rousing applause as the members of the Scooby gang and the remaining Angel and Spike bowed. Giles quickly went up the stage and motioned the whole group to come forward. Buffy quickly went to her Watcher and whispered,"It wasn't *my* fault!"

"It's always your fault, Buffy,"Angel snarled quietly at her.

"And watch where you place your hands, bud,"snarled Buffy as she glared at him.

"You used to like where my hands went,"Angel sniped back."In fact, you used to moan for it!"

Buffy was about to give a scathing reply when Willow pinched her. She glared at her friends, then looked to smile at the audience.

"Shut up you two!" said Giles as he turned back to the audience.

"Well, now it's time for the judges to vote and shall we wait for it...Oh, that was quick!"Giles smiled, then his eyes widened as he read the results."Ah..hmm, yes, well this is a surprise! Third place goes to, uh, Cordelia and Harmony for their, ah, rousing dance to 'Footloose' and 'Paradise by the Dash Board Light'. Let's give them all an applause!"

Giles looked at the paper and said loudly,"Second, place goes to Amanda Roman and the track team for their performance and vocals to 'Chariots of Fire' and 'Beauty and the Beast'!"

"Wasn't 'Chariots of Fire' an instrumental?"Spike whispered then he caught the strange look Buffy shot at him."What?"

"And the first prize...goes to the Stage Crew for their, uh, unique dance to 'Guys and Dolls' and 'My Favorite Things', well now, how about that!”Giles announced. There was a surprisingly loud applause as the group stared at each other with their jaws wide open.

"Wait a minute! Wait a minute!"Snyder yelled as he approached the group. The auditorium was quiet as they strained to hear the principal speak."Wait a minute! There's something fishy here!"

The group looked at the little troll politely as he pointed in general."Where's the rest of the group?"

He then pointed at Spike and Angel."And who are these two? I don't know these two students. These two dancers are too old to be high school students! So this group can't win!"

Angel stepped forward and glared at the small man."Are you saying that you're disqualifying us, little man?"

Snyder swallowed hard."I'm just saying that I don't know you two, and you're not students here!"

"That bloody well sounds like you're trying to take away our award, you little wanker!"Spike growled as he leaned forward from his chair."Not too sporting of you mate! We worked bloody well hard on our performance! Should’ve told us the rules before we started it!"

"And who, if  may ask, are you?"Syder demanded at Spike. Then looked at Angel."And you?"

Buffy gave a nervous laugh."Uh, this one here is, ah, William Martin. He's, uh, Mr.Giles's nephew. Can't you tell by the family resemblance?"

Snyder cast a suspicious look at the librarian and the wheelchair bound blonde."Is he really?"

Giles walked quickly towards Spike, and placed his hand on the leather clad shoulder."Yes, he's visiting for now. Isn't that right, nephew?"

Buffy punched the back of Spike's wheelchair, hard. He glared at her as he aswered,"Yes, right, uncle."

Snyder glared at Angel."And who are you?"

"His friend,"Buffy answered quickly. Snyder glared at her."William travels everywhere with, uh, Angel."

Snyder looked at Angel then at Summers."Angel? His name is 'Angel'? What kind of name is that?!?"

Angel stepped forward and growled."What of it?"

Buffy quickly stepped forward."He's William's personal nurse. You know, because Will's in a wheelchair and all, and so he needs Angel to help take care of him. He's a ministering Angel, you know, like that Angel, only Angel is his real name. Anyway, Angel tends to all of Will's special needs, whatever they may be-"

"Summer, shut up. I get the idea that Mr.Giles's nephew and Angel here are special *friends*, as it were,"Snyder said as he looked at Mr. Giles. Everyone's eyes widened when they realized Snyder's implications.

Cordelia and Willow turned red, Xander quickly squelched a shout of laughter, Oz merely looked at the ceiling. Buffy bit her inner lip as a red-faced Angel and Spike glared at her."But that still doesn't mean that they can win the Annual Song and dance Competition. They're not students."

"Not here, Principal Snyder,"Ms. Brendon announced as she and the other judges made their way to the group."But they will win the first place, after all. Because we the judges have deemed it so. Is that clear?"

Snyder tried again."But these men are not-"

"Then it should have been written clearly in the rules, and been made aware to all of us,"Seth Hannigan said firmly."As it is, they are the winners. And I congratulate you."

Snyder grumbled as he slinked towards the microphone."It seems that the Stage Crew has indeed won, in accordance to the rules! Here are your awards! Thank you and good night!"

As the teens and vampires saw Snyder shove a trophy at Buffy then leave, Buffy smiled at the trophy.

David looked at the vampires and grinned."Will, you've got a great voice. If  you want, we could try to get a recording contract, could make a lot of money with that voice."

"Uhh, thanks, but I'll think about it,"Spike said, confused. Angel frowned at the leaving judges.

"What about me?"Angel demanded as Spike merely rolled his eyes. David looked at the vamp in disgust as Alyson laughed.

"You're just eye candy, baby. 'Cause you sure as hell can't sing,"Alyson Brendon laughed."Come on judges, let's go home."

As the judges left, Giles cleared his throat."Now what shall we do with you two? Hmm?"

Angel glared at the Watcher."Can't stake us tonight,'Uncle' Rupert. Too many questions and too many people."

"Let us try anyway,"Xander said as he got his stake out. Buffy stopped him, then glared at Spike and Angel.

"Unfortunately, he's right,"Buffy groused as she smiled at a passing student, then waved the trophy at another. She looked at Spike and Angel."Leave now. I catch you in three minutes, you're both dust. Like your pals."

"And what about the trophy?"Angel demanded. As Buffy stared at him, Angel persisted."I helped win that damn thing, so I want it."

"It's mine!"Buffy said hotly."I slayed for it! You're *only* eye candy!"

"Oh yeah?"Angel started hotly."You still can't sing worth a dickens!"

Giles stepped in before the argument could go on."Before this evolves into a bigger farce than it already is, I think that you should give it to the most deserving of the group. Buffy, now!"

Buffy glared at Giles then at Angel."Fine then!"

Buffy shoved the trophy into Spike's arms, then gathered his lapels, hauled him out if the chair and kissed him hard on the lips."To the most deserving. See ya, pet!"

Then Buffy flounced away with the eyes of the Scooby gang following her. Giles looked at Buffy's retreating back, then at the outraged Angel, then at the stunned Spikes staring at the trophy at Buffy shoved at him.

Giles cleared his throat.”I think that you two should leave now.”

*****

Angel growled as he slammed open the van door. It *had* to be one of the *worst* nights of his undead life. Total fiasco! No killing Buffy, singing happy songs in a *high school* competition, and the winning it! *Then* Buffy *giving* that stupid trophy to *Spike* after the judges complimented him on his stupid voice! It was outside enough. He was going to make her death *very* painful.

As Angel sat in the driver’s seat, he felt something fuzzy. He looked down and the last thing he saw was two beady black eyes looking at him before some noxious gas sprayed his face."SPIKE!!!"

~Fin. You didn't think that I'd forget about the skunk did you?
