Sliders on UPN?
A friend of mine, JerseySlider, has got a plan of her own to Save Sliders. Really, the only reason that I know of that Sliders is being cancelled, is not loss of interest on the part of fans, but loss of interest by Scifi Channel. Therefor, JerseySlider is proposing that we right to UPN.

Ok, here is JerseySlider's plan....
First, she is going to get the Neilson Ratings for Sliders over the past year, to show UPN how much Scifi has benefited from the show. She does know, so far, that from the s4 premiere, the debut of the original "Sliders" episodes on the SciFi channel broke all previous series ratings records for the network. The 9pm episode earned a 2.2 household rating, representing 1,072,000 homes, and the 10 pm episode won a 2.4 household rating, representing 1,168,000 homes, making it the highest-rated series episode in Sci Fi history. In general, Sliders has brought the SciFi channel more than twice the average number of viewers in the time period in which the show airs.
Second, she is going to start to write Torme and the 8 or 9 cast members to tell them how we are all writing to everyone, and the possibility of UPN's interest.
Third, she is going to mail UPN. She's going to include the info on the statistics and a print out of Realmkeeper's Save Sliders petition. She'll tell them that there are 277 signatures as of August 31st, and the last signature was on August 30th. This will show them that new people are constantly coming on the bboard wanting to save Sliders. She's also going to tell them how everyone is writing Torme and the cast so UPN can see that the possibility isn't so far fetched.
Fourth, Viewers for Quality
Television, INC (http://www.vqt.org) has a 6 sentence
definition for a Quality Drama.
1. It is involving, confronting, and interesting.
2. It rises above entertainment by challenging the viewers to
think about it.
3. It dares to take risks.
4. It is honest and illuminating, appeals to the intellect and touches emotions.
5. It requires concentration and attention.
6. It provokes thought.
She definitely think that Sliders falls into this category. Coincidentally, UPN's Star Trek Voyager is one of VQT's Quality Dramas. She's going to ask UPN if they would like to air two Quality Dramas on their network.
Lastly, here is a copy of the letter JerseySlider is writing. Please, don't entirely copy this letter when you write UPN, just use it as a guide.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing of a situation that has affected many people.
Sliders,
the inter-dimensional traveling, science fiction adventure, has
recently been cancelled on the Sci Fi Network. This cancellation
was
not a result of poor ratings, but rather a lack of interest by
the Sci
Fi Network. The many fans of the show are extremely angered by
this
action, and are currently looking for ways for the show to remain
in
syndication. We are asking UPN to help the fans by picking up the
show.
UPN is one of the only networks that truly has culturally diverse
programming. The variety of shows includes programming of all
demographics. Currently, UPN provides "WWF Smackdown"
for sports fans,
"Star Trek: Voyager" and "Seven Days" for
science fiction fans,
"Moesha" for people who enjoy comedy, and a wide range
of movies for
people who enjoy drama or action-adventure. Many stations have
tried
to have such a diverse schedule, but clearly UPN is the success.
If
UPN adds Sliders to its exquisite lineup, the network's diversity
would
continue to grow and many new people will be introduced to UPN.
Viewers for Quality Television, Inc. has a six-sentence
definition of a
quality drama.
1. A quality drama is involving, confronting, and interesting.
2. A quality drama rises above entertainment by challenging the
viewers
to think about it.
3. A quality drama dares to take risks.
4. A quality drama is honest and illuminating, appeals to the

and touches emotions.
5. A quality drama requires concentration and attention.
6. A quality drama provokes thought.
Sliders certainly falls into this category. It has also come to
the
attention of Sliders fans that UPN's Star Trek: Voyager has been
classified as one of VQT's most quality dramas. Sliders fans are
asking UPN to add another quality drama to its superb lineup.
As I stated earlier, Sliders has not been cancelled due to poor
ratings. The Sci Fi network picked up the show from Fox, and
started
the fourth season of the show June 8th, 1998. The Ultimate TV
News
Daily reported that the debut of Sliders on Sci Fi broke all
previous
series ratings records for the network. The 9 p.m. episode earned
a
2.2 household rating, representing 1,072,000 homes, and the 10
p.m.
episode won a 2.4 household rating, representing 1,168,000 homes;
making it the highest-rated series episode in Sci Fi history. In
general, Sliders has brought Sci Fi more than twice the average
number
of viewers in the time periods in which the show has aired. I am
positive that the same impact would occur on UPN, similar to the
impact
that WWF Smackdown has provided for the network. By adding
Sliders,
the advertisements for UPN's programming would be seen by more
people,
a goal for many executives at the network.
Sliders fans want to see another season of the show; if that is
not
possible, they would settle for a mini series or a tele-movie
that
would properly end the series. We are currently writing to the
creator
and former executive producer Tracey Torme in the hopes that he
would
be involved in the finale. We are also writing to the 8 cast
members,
both past and present, which includes Sabrina Lloyd of ABC's
"Sport's
Night" and Jerry O'Connell of "Scream II" and
"Jerry McGuire." We are
hoping that their influence will help the fans see a finale.
Enclosed
is a petition signed by the fans via the Internet. This petition
was
started when news of the cancellation first surfaced on July
12th,
1999. There are a total of 296 signatures, that last of which was
on
September 9th, 1999. New people are constantly coming to the Sci
Fi
Sliders Web Page signing the petition and asking how they can get
involved with saving the show. There are also many websites
devoted to
saving Sliders. We are asking UPN to give Sliders fans something
they
have waited for and desired for a long time, another season or a
proper
ending of the show. Please consider adding Sliders to UPN.
