The composition and structure of the seafloor sediment and underlying crust show important clues to the evolution of life, ocean-atmosphere dynamics, and the tectonic process that shaped the earth's continents and ocean basins as we4 know them today.
The stugy of marine geology deals with the earth's crust beneath the ocean floor and how it works. It helps us to locate vital minerals, make better use of renewable ocean resources, predict climate change, plan for environmental impacts on society, and is better at minimizing the effects of society on the environment.
