When first they met.....

it's Sun Wu Kong who'd first "introduced" the :Mudan
Fairy to Lu Dong Bin, who, being reborne, had no :recollection
of her at all. To see if Dong Bin will be able to :withstand
the 'temptation' to give into his weakness,
:namely, to have emotions, Sun Wu Kong took
the form of :the love interest of Dong Bin's
previous life, the Mudan :Fairy, to give him
a test.
:Hence, Dong Bin meets this ravishing beauty,
CuiCui...
Once he knew of the trick played on him, he soon forgot about this girl
called CuiCui,
until....
Twice we meet... is it fate??

young immortal-yet-to-be, to :her Immortal Peaches Feast. Just :see how stunned he was...
The Mudan Fairy recognised DongBin as the reincarnation
of the Immortal DongHua, and was thus cold towards him. He, however, was
curious as to why she resembled CuiCui, and was very friendly to her. Later,
she saved him from certain death in the hands of ChunYing. That did it,
his curiousity was further increased because of the way she blew hot and
cold towards him. Thus he asked the Monkey God to help him to know what
his past relationship with the Mudan Fairy was like.
:Upon learning
that she was deeply in love with his :previous self, DongBin was at first inclined to make use
:of this fact,
to ask for her help in stealing the DingShan :needle to deal with the Pangolin. But very soon he found
:himself having
his hidden feelings reawakened, in the :presence of the beautiful and pure Mudan.
The third time did it...

After the Mudan Fairy was banished to Earth
to live three lives as a prostitute
( as the ravishing Bai Mudan), as punishment for her theft of the DingShan
needle for Lu Dong Bin, Fate arranged for these two to meet once again.
This time, feeling responsible for what has happened to her, DongBin tried
to get this materialistic Bai Mudan to realise the Way, to become a deity
once more. However, with his guilt eroding his defenses, he grew to care
for her. And as fate would have it, Bai Mudan fell helplessly in love with
him, as much as her previous self had. She tried every ways and means to
attain his favours. No barriers Dong Bin could keep in place was able to
withstand her surging tide of love.

:And of course, with the evil Tong Tian's manipulation of their feelings, what is real and what is not becomes blurred. Feighing to be the God of Marriages, Tong Tian managed to convince Mudan that by tying a red string to Dong Bin, he will be binded with her for all time. So she does it, and Dong Bin was afraid of what it may bring. So he goes to the imposter to demand a solution to be freed from this bondage. By giving him a green thread which is supposed to counter the effect, Dong Bin became a victim of the "Blood Curse" which causes him to act irrationally at times, such that he acts with his true feelings; being ruled by his heart and not his head.
Actually, it was not only evil which had allowed this relationship to go from simple concern to a point of no return. The good intentions of the other immortals who, in their haste to try to prevent Lu Dong Bin from falling into his cursed Web of Love, had become fumbling meddlers in his affairs with Bai Mudan. This has caused Lu Dong Bin to find himself going to Mudan's defenses often, and in doing so, realising how much he really cared for her.
