Domino is one of the most lethal of the Marvel women. And certainly one of the most mysterious. Probes into her past made by the Powers that be have revealed that : It's no jest that 'Domino is many women'.
It is believed that our Lady Luck could have
been a 13 yr old runaway so many years ago in Seattle, who told authorities
that her name was "Jessica Marie Costello" when she was picked
up for shoplifting, but she escaped later. Now if this child was really
Domino in her younger days, considering how streetwise she could have been
then, this might just be a name she picked up.
( Lemme guess, you are now asking : "Where's that tell-tale patch??
All I can do in reply is : *Shrug my shoulders* ^_^)
Two years after that, (which would make her only a girl of 15 ! ) , when
most young'uns are out on dates, our belle here could have been a
young woman fighting on the combat arenas of Madripoor, fighting under a
stage name.
After she was recruited by the National Security
Agency, she adopted the codename "Domino", using what was designated
as "Probability Altering" Powers in the service of United States.
In about the same time period, she "married" the first true love
of her life, "Love with a capital 'L' " as she so aptly put herself.
. .
After that marriage ended, with Milo believing that she had died while saving
his life, there were a series of women who were spotted and believed to
be her.
A "Louise Mendoza" took about 1.2
Million from 5 casinos( definitely sounds like Lady Luck's with this particular
lady :) ),
and an "Elena Vladescu" was seen with
the Russian Ambassador shortly before his inexplicable death.
Then she reappeared again as Domino, as the only woman on the mercenary
team known as "Six Pack", and later became a founder and defacto
leader of X-Force. But no matter how many hints are given about her past,
until Domino opens up and tell Cable or someone all about her past
life in an issue someday, her past will forever be a messy jigsaw puzzle,
with pieces that never seem to match....
( Above Info from X-Force August # 68)
Domino's first appearance in the X-books was in New Mutants #98, when Cable sent for her to help him in training his new team. Unknown to them then, the real Domino was held captive by the man called Tolliver, ( who turned out to be Tyler, misled son of Cable), for over an entire year ; Tortured, whilst CopyCat took her place with the X-force. In X-Force #11 --15, the real Domino was rescued by Cable, who bid her to find and protect his young 'cubs' of X-Force. She kept her word, and together with Cable they ran the team.
Domino never had an easy life, despite the fact that things tend to 'fall into place ' for her. With a steely resolve that even Lady Deathstrike admits to, she is the toughest, and most fearless of non-visible powered gals. Armed with her trusty plasma pistols and her power over luck, she had escaped from the jaws of Death too many times to count. Never letting emotion get in the way of the necessary things to be done, she has time and again proved that this girl can hold than her own, and then some.
Hidden behind her sarcastic demeanor is actually a very caring and sensitive soul, who feared to show her 'soft' side because therein lay her one weakness no defensive skills could protect. Domino for a time grieved over the death of her longtime friend, Grizzly, when he forced her hand to kill him. She may have been an ice-cold operator before, but since she began to have a more stable 'family' with X-force, like Cable, Dom has softened a lot. So much so that in her effort to protect Siryn, Sunspot and Dani, she took on the Prime Sentinels alone, facing the possibility of certain death. Because of this, they escaped unscathed, but she was captured by Ekatarina Gryaznova, a Prime sentinel whose hatred for her overridden even the fear for the wrath of Bastion, in Operation Zero Torlerance. This led to a device implanted into her mind which rendered the use of her powers unreliable ( and solved the mystery as to why her shiny, cascading head of hair was cropped really short.)
Domino has always braved the immense wave of loneliness of her life with great strength, and never really lost heart in life, except perhaps recently. How will Fate deal out the next hand for our heroine ? A good one.....I HOPE.
