My first encounter with HTML was in 1996, when I participated a course of HTML basics in Kajaani Polytechnic. First we did pages using simple editors like the one with Netscape Gold. After that we went deeper into the code. Then there was a gap in internet studies I filled with other studies and finally graduated in the end of 1997. Next year I worked in a company called PMT´s Equipment Oy. My job description was sales, office work and making of their www-pages. I made pages both in Finnish and English using the most basic HTML-editor MS Notepad. I learned very much, for example that I have to learn more.
My first own homepages I published in the internet at the end of 1998. They are still active and I update them time to time, however there are a lot of things to improve, If I only had time and effort. The pages are a reflection of my hobbies and interests outside the computing world.
25th August 1999 I started a course at Mikkelin Aikuiskoulutuskeskus. Its title is WWW markkinoinnin ja viestinnän välineenä. The course is very much about producing contents for www-pages, not just ´cool-looking gif-animations´. That´s why the course included also marketing, business, writing and communication. I have to admit that before this course I didn't know half of what I know now about making of www-pages.
First project I started was for Rantavideo Oy. I made the basic pages quite fast, but since that I have updated and reconstructed the pages often. Pages were finally published in November 1999 and are updated almost in weekly basis.
Second project was started in November 1999 for Mikkelin työvoimatoimisto. Me and two of my friends decided to do groupwork dividing the project into pieces. First version woke up the critics in the employer and after the busy work period the second version was handed over to työvoimatoimisto 15th December 1999. After that the project has been waiting for employers decisions.
In future I wish to do more pages for myself and hopefully also to employers. I think my strengths are in HTML-coding and writing, so that I probably am most skilful in creating the informational part of www-pages. Like my teacher said: "There are a lots of coders out there, but few of them who can produce the information for web sites."
