Last week's episode: 6th Extinction II: Amor Fatale
Now that is a premiere
I'm not even going to justify commenting on the content of this episode. It was far too complicated and I will fall behind on the episode reviews if I spend too much time. If you want details, I'm sending you to see Autumn. Her reviews are phenomenal and I could never compete (see below for the link to her site). However, I will mention that I was getting so violent throughout the lovey-dovey Mulder and Diana sequence that my father threatened to make me go to bed. I was throwing random objects at the television whenever she appeared. Especially when she scarred us all for life in her skank-o-rama I Dream of Jeanie lingerie. That was just way too much for me.
The ending certainly made up for any hallucinations us shippers may have been fretting over. Scully enters the DOD with the card slipped under her door as she slept on her hardwood floor (ow). She touches Mulder's face as she reaches him, and looks stricken. With little time to get out of there, Scully is in tears trying to revive him. His eyes open in a kind of struggle with his hallucinogenic and present self and Scullys gasps in releif. He is still not able to move. Scully coaxes, "No one can do it but you, Mulder. Please, Mulder. Help me." Mulder finally fights his way to consciousness as Scully's tear slips from her face and becomes his own. He turns his face to hers and they embrace, with Mulder gasping, "You...help me."
A week later, Scully goes to visit Mulder at his apartment. He answers the door in a button-up shirt and un-tied tie. Scully grabs the tie to take it away saying, "No work, Mulder." Mulder grabs the tie, joking lightly, "Ooh, tie goes to the runner, Scully." There's been much speculation about whether this was a reference to the last episode DD had a hand in writing, The Unnatural, which we all remember quite clearly :o) or whether this was a wink to the fact that they'll be fast approaching first base after the upcoming Millennium episode. Methinks it's probably both, since both Chris and David tend to be fairly witty at playing on words and phrases. Mulder then tells Scully that he was coming down to tell her that Albert Hosteen passed away after being in a coma in New Mexico for two weeks. He couldn't have physically been in Scully's apartment to pray with her for Mulder. Scully at first refuses to accept that, but then realizes how little she can really justify after all she's seen. Scully tells Mulder helplessly that she doesn't know who to listen to or who to trust. She then speaks the 7 words we have been waiting a season to hear: "Diana Fowley was found murdered this morning." Trust me, she really said it. I rewound the tape at least 15 times to hear her say it again...
With emotion in her voice, Scully tells Mulder that Diana had given her the book she used to decipher part of the skin of the ship and that it was her Department of Defense key that allowed Scully to rescue Mulder. Knowing just how much Scully hated Diana shows us her love for Mulder. The fact that the death of Diana would hurt Mulder moves her to tears. She says she's sorry and that she knows Diana was his friend and pulls him into a hug. Mulder, no longer taken aback by the news of Diana, consoles his partner:
Quote of the Week: |
Mulder: Scully, I was like you once. I didn't know who to
trust, and I...I chose another path, another life, another fate where I found
my sister. And even though my world was unrecognizable and upside-down,
there was one thing that remained the same. You were my friend, and
you told me the truth. Even when the world was falling apart, you were
my constant. My touchstone.
Scully: And you are mine. |
Gazing into each others eyes, hands caressing their faces, Scully leans in and kisses Mulder tenderly on the forehead. It will also not be left out that it was an open-mouth kiss! You all saw it... When she pulls away, still looking into his face adoringly, she replaces his hat and runs her hands over his cheeks. Her fingers slow and stray a second as they brush over Mulder's lips and then she turns and walks away...
LAST WEEK'S POLL RESULT: The mytharc piece you want most to be resolved is Scully's abduction and the circumstances of Emily at 49%.
