Les Miserable |
|
Les Miserable is based in 19th
century France. Some of the songs in this musical is very nice. And many
stars, including Colm Wilkinson, Philp Quest, Michael Ball, Lea Salonga
and Anthony Warlow has sung a role in it. This is another musical that I
like a lot.
Story starts with Jean Valjean. He was put into prison for 19 years just for stealing bread to avoid starving. After being helped by a priest, he thought he could have another future and broke parole. He fleed to a small town and started a new life. 8 years later, He became the mayor of that town and owned a factory. A factory girl named Fantine was fired and was forced to become a prostitute to earn money to raise her daughter. When caught by police chief Javert, she pleed Valjean to help her. He forced her release and took care of her. In an incident where he saved a man pinned under a cart, Javert started to doubt if this mayor could be the convict Valjean. Valjean, confronted by his faith, confesses. He fleed the town, in search of Fantine's daughter. Fantine gave him her location before dying. He found Cosette, Fantine's daughter, and took her from the evil innkeeper, Thernardier. They left for Paris. Another 9 years passed. There is great unrest in Paris. A group of students because of the likely demise of the popular leader General Lamarque. Thernardier became a gangster in Paris. He caught Valjean and started a fight. Javert stopped the fight and Valjean escaped. Marius, one of the students fell in love with Cosette, and asked Thernardier's daughter Eponine, who actually loved Marius, to find out more about Cosette. The students, under the lead of Enjoras, were agitated by the death of Lamarque and decided to build a barricade to fight against the army. Lead by Eponine, Marius found Cosette. They fell in love with each other. In a hope to defeat the barricade, Javert infiltrated the barricade as a volunteer and tricked the student. Luckily, his true identity was discovered before any real damage was done. Valjean, also a volunteer secretly released Javert and let him free. Sadly, Eponine was killed on her way to the barricade. The army stormed the barricade serveral times, eventually killing all the students except Valjean and Marius, who was heavily wounded. Valjean carried Marius under to the sewer systems. Javert followed in pursuit and found them. Valjean begged him to spare Marius, and he did. He took Marius home and disappeared. Javert, confronted by the thought that Valjean is not evil, threw himself in the River Seine. Marius and Cosette went to Valjean when he told her for the first time, her own history before he died and joined the soulds of Fantine and all the students killed at the barricade. |
