Books

Ah books! Does anybody know what those are anymore? It seems that the only stuff people read nowadays are webpages and subtitles. Even I find it easier to sit in front of my tv or computer than to read a book. Nevertheless, I manage to read some books each year, if only during my breaks at work and during holidays.

The books I read are mostly of the fantasy and horror genre. My favorite authors include Poppy Z. Brite, Clive Barker, Stephen Donaldson, Stephen King , Dean R. Koontz and Peter Schaap . For those of you interested in reading fantasy books in Dutch, check out Dromen en Demonen.

Clive Barker

When I first discovered the books of Clive Barker, it was during the days of Damnation Game. Those first books were very much of the horror genre. Shortly afterwards I discovered the Hellraiser movies which got me totally hooked on Barker's work. More recent books by Barker have drifted from the purely horrifying to works of fantasy. Books like Weaveworld and Imajica touch upon the subject of other dimensions or worlds. Imajica offers the most detailed universe ever found in his works.

Stephen King

Stephen King has been called the 'King of Horror' for a long time now. I have been reading his books since I was about twelve or thirteen, I guess. Which book it was that got me started, I can not even remember. Presently I still have to read his last four books (just a matter of time), but I am still very interested in his work. When King started publishing, it was with horror-stories. In time though, his stories changed. Did Barker change from horror to fantasy, King changed from horror of a fantastic kind to real-life drama and horror, often with a slight touch of fantasy.

Recently, a website devoted to Stephen King has been put up. You can find some info on the man and his work at the official Stephen King site.

Peter Schaap

As far as I know, he has published the following books, which I all read except for his latest. It will have to wait for a while, as there are about twenty books laying around, waiting to be read.
