James De Mille was born in 1833 in St John
New Brunswick and died in 1880. He wrote about 30 books in his career
most of them mainstream. One exception is A
Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder which is
considered Canada's first science fiction novel. It was originally
published in London, England, by Chatto & Windus in 1888 and
was serialized in Harpers Weekly in the U.S. during the same year. It
was finally published in Canada by McClelland and Stewart in 1969.
More recently A
Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder was reprinted by Bakka
Books and is now available.
