Use of Deadly Force Authorized
When you mention Area 51 or UFOs to some people, they become instant skeptics as I have found out personally, and the only thing I can say to that is....Visit the Perimeter of the Restricted Area, then ask yourself if you believe it or not.
My family and I took the 140 mile drive from Las Vegas to Rachel,NV and while there stopped by the A "le" inn. That place has good food and great memorabilia-a definate day trip for anybody visiting the Southern Nevada area. Also in Rachel there is a trailer run by the Area 51 Research Center which we stopped for some info and merchandise.
The information that we received there was very beneficial to our side journey to the fence where the most well known signs are. Once we were informed, we set out on I-375 (the Extraterrestrial Highway) toward the infamous black mailbox that is now painted white. Once there we turned off the interstate to Mailbox Rd., a dirt road two carwidths wide that passed by a local ranch. We followed this road past the corral where it intersected with Groom Lake Road.
Groom Lake Road extends from I-375 all the way to the dry lakebed and is a wide compacted gravel road as well. It is approximately 13 miles from the Mailbox Rd. intersection to the main signs. As you approach there is a ridge on the right, Freedom Ridge which used to be public land-now bought by the Air Force and incorporated into the Restricted Area. The Groom Lake Security Patrols love this ridge to perch on and watch any approaching vehicles down the road.
Also, from the second a vehicle comes into the Groom Lake Valley on I-375 or Groom Lake Rd. it is being watched by the radar installation that sits atop Bald Mountain. So essentially your visit to the base perimeter is not exactly secret.
On top of all that security, I was observant enough to notice several sensors most likely television cameras that were pointed down at the road. Other surveylance equipment exists and is either sonic, seismic, or smell sensative.
The actual border to the Restricted Area is a simple dirt road with a few signs around it, but its the closest a civilian can get to the base (12 miles). Six signs mark the entrance as well as a row of orange pilons spread across the ridge.
Unfortunately my pictures of the signs didn't come out (makes one wonder) but I am working on a plan to get some-very creative but realistic.
