While in the Kovel Mansion proper, you will find many locked doors. If you have a thief, you should have him attempt to pick these locks instead of just breaking them down. Breaking them down will automatically trigger any traps that might be on the door, but picking the lock may give you a chance to disarm the trap if you succeed in picking the lock on the door.
You will also suffer recurring attacks from thieves who sneak up behind you through secret doors. Unfortunately, there is not a good way to get around these attacks.
When you get to area two, you will be given the opportunity to follow the fleeing thieves. They will split - going through the south door leads you straight to an ambush by the main gang of thieves. Going through the other door allows you to catch the thief, but he doesn’t have any useful information.
