STAR WARS

THE MAGIC OF MYTH - VIRTUAL TOUR!

On my 1997Christmas vacation, I decided to swing by Washington DC to check out the Star Wars exhibit that was on display at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum! What a sight it turned out to be! Lucas was nice enough to pull around 300 props from his warehouses to display infront of 1000's of drooling fans... believe me - I was one of them! While there, I went on a picture taking frenzy, so I could share it with all of you unfortunate ones who won't be able to make it to Washington DC anytime soon. Apparently this exhibit will be going for at least a year, so there might still be some hope for you! Click on the thumbnails to see an enlarged picture!

Note: If you receive a message that the FTP server is temporarily offline, then please just check back in a little while (couple hours). I have got a pretty reliable little setup going here where I keep my computer up as an FTP server during non-use... but if I'm programming, I unfortunately need all the resources and reliability I can get. Believe me... if you do get this "offline" message, you've probably come during a bad time, because the FTP server is up 95% of the day! :)

Imperial Storm Trooper

This picture was my first glimpse of the *REAL* Storm Trooper. Upon careful examination, it turns out that the armor really is kind of uneven, warped and almost sloppily put together. Still, it's an original - that's what counts.
Here is the left side view for you detail buffs. The other side (right side) has him holding a Blaster Rifle. I'm telling you - it was virtually idential to the piece that I own!
Here's a pic of me (TK827) with the Trooper. Had to get this picture in! <grin> I'm sure all you Storm Trooper fans will understand, right TK719!?

Imperial Biker Scout

This was an awesome display piece. A Biker Scout on a life size Speederbike! I'd love to have one of those in my house! :)
Here is another view of the Biker Scout - just trying to fit the whole suit into the frame.

Imperial Snow Trooper

The Trooper that is outfitted for cold weather conditions as seen at the Hoth Battle scenes... definitely a cool little set of armor! Doesn't even seem that hard to make yourself!

Imperial Tie Fighter Pilot

You hardly even notice in the movies, but this Pilot's helmet is HUGE! Another variation on the Storm Trooper helmet, but with more of a life support package I guess for when you get hit by that one laser blast that will send you hurtling through cold space! :)

Imperial Royal Guard

The highest rank you can possibly achieve as a Storm Trooper is the elite status of being an Imperial Guard. Your job is to guard the head-honchos and bigwigs in the Empire. These guys are calm, cool, and precise... and VERY red!

Imperial Officer

These guys always remind me of Nazi's for some reason. Very standard and clear cut outfits... pretty cool! Correct me if I'm wrong, but Han Solo used to be an Imperial Officer before he defected from the Empire... Can't wait to see that in the Prequels!

Darth Vader

Vader stood at least 7' tall in this display case! He was HUGE! Maybe even taller than 7'! Gotta love his outfit... wow!

Boba Fett

Ahhh... next to the Storm Trooper, Boba Fett is my next favorite and most of all, one of THE COOLEST characters! <sigh> What I wouldn't give to get a suit like that! If any of you have one you want to give me, or can point me to a good one, please let me know! :) His armor was VERY detailed - one of the coolest displays!

Princess Leia as Boushh

A very femine pose for a Bounty Hunter I must say! <grin> I love the helmet on this one... Maybe I can get my wife to dress up as her one year. ;)

Ewok

Depicted are a couple of Ewoks... yeah, that's my daughter. Hopefully she'll be an Ewok for Halloween so that I can set this 'Battle at Endor' straight... <grin> This one was probably one of the lamest props.

Sand People / Jawa / Obi-Wan Cloak

This one is kindof a combo picture of some of the Tatooine characters. Neat little gun on that Jawa! The eyes didn't seem too realistic though.

Wampa Ice Creature

Pretty gross prop here... what a hairy beast! :) Lotsa little kids were keeping their distance from this one! :)

Princess Leia

This is the dress that Leia wore in ANH... This is my wife Kathy who is going to attempt that dress for this Halloween! Heehee!

Rebel Endor Battle Gear

The camouflage package that those rebel scum used to blow up the power station on Endor. Not bad.

Rebel Hoth Gear

Outfitted for the cruel, cold Hoth weather, this is one of the gear the Rebels wore... Looks pretty warm & snuggly!

Rebel X-Wing Fighter Pilot

The familar orange flight suit the Xwing pilots used. Pretty cool, but a very empty display case!

Chewbacca

This prop, like Darth Vader, was pretty huge and hairy! Did I say Vader was hairy? Didn't mean that! Sorry! <grin>

R2-D2 / C3PO

The two inseperable droids are depicted here... Notice the silver right shin on 3PO... funky! I wonder if they weren't able to find the complete suit, so they took a piece from that silver C3PO type droid in Empire's Cloud City? Sound like a plausible theory? :)

R2-D2

A nice closeup of R2... He's a cool little droid! I wish I had that prop in my room here, so I could use him as a Coca-Cola Vending Machine! :)

Macrobinoculars

Amazing enough, they had the original binoculars there (like the set that I have)... although you are able to see a noticible difference between the two. Thought it was kinda neat, so I snapped a pic of it!

Miscellaneous Rebel Items

This shot has the front view of the Macrobinoculars, and a bunch of other miscellaneous items... like that antenna gizmo Han was using to find Luke on Hoth during the snow storm...

Millenium Falcon

This was the original 5-6' model used for alot of the closeup shots made in the movie... Wow... those modelers did a GREAT job on the detailing of this piece - unfortunately alot of the minute details can only be seen when you're looking at it from 6 inches away.

Imperial Probedroid

Excellent detailed model of the Imperial Probedroid! The Kenner toy is amazingly accurate compared to this!

... and that's all folks!

I hope you enjoyed the Virtual Tour! This was just a short overview of what all's there... of course there were many many more props, which I didn't want to waste film on... I wanted to hit all the major props... but there was a ton! Lots of excited kids running around... and alot of excitement in the air... Thank you, Mr. Lucas, for the privilege of gazing upon some of the actual props in your incredible tales!
