Yet beneath the shocking appearance beats a kind and gentle heart. Young children and animals love her, ignoring her outer shell. Her soft soprano voice lulls them, while her ethereal singing can cause any raging beast to ease unto sleep. Her small but full lips present a heartwarming smile, even with black lipstick on them. Her cheeks seemingly made for smiling, are round and high on her oval face. Natural pale-gray skin lies beneath her acne lined complexion.
This girl, whom many shun, is my best friend, Pearl “Purple” Rogers. We met six years ago and even then she was herself: a hippie flower child. That was before she morphed through the years to her present punk rock/ gothic style, at age 20. Reading constantly, she knows more than she lets on and can explain anything. Mythologies are her present passion, along with her study of Magic.
A Wiccan, Pearl is at home in the forest. Though darkly shaded, the forest has a serenity not found most places, along with a beauty that is most of the time overlooked and under-appreciated, a scene of peace. In her forest, she would be her normal graceful self.
With the grace and elegance of her movements, she could easily change her present job as a maid to become a professional dancer. Even her sometimes macho strut gives off a graceful appearance, emphasizing the elegance of her slim and trim body and long refined hands.
Yet her actions are different from her elegant appearance and movements. She belches louder than most males and can cause people to vacate a room if she drinks a single glass of orange juice. When kidding around, she can claw with her sharp beautiful fingernails. She can leave a bruise as she punches or kicks someone with her always freezing to the touch limbs. WWF (World Wrestling Federation), ECW, WCW are her favorite shows to watch.
Together we share a lot of the same interests: art, music, writing, reading, and an interest in fantasy things (dragons, wizards, elves, fairies, etc.). Our interests have seemed to always be connected, but our natures are opposite. I am a neat freak and need organization in everything, except my mind. She is a slob in everything, except her mind.
I am tall, unbreakable, and very stout, and she is very willowy, fragile, and barely five feet. I was good with schoolwork, and she wasn’t.
However, with differences facing us at almost every turn she has been a true and loyal friend. Not many realize that beneath her scary vampire appearance is a person that many can only wishes they knew.
