Born in the time of Mohammed in the holy city of Makkah, he became one of the first followers of the Muslim religion. When Hamza was around 40 years old, he was mortally wounded in a holy battle for Allah and became Immortal. He later travelled to the city of Damascus and learned the art of swordmaking. Hamza went on to the Iberian peninsula to practice his skills. He spent nearly 200 years there, becoming part of the culture of Muslim Spain. When the Moors were driven out of Spain, Hamza settled in Rabat, and then Algiers, where he taught swordsmanship and wrote poetry. It was here that he purchased Duncan MacLeod as a slave in 1653 and taught MacLeod about the Muslim culture. After the death of Hamza el Kahir, he and his sword became a part of Turkish legend for centuries.
