66 Galaxie 500
(Nov 3rd, 2002) Here are a few pics of the first day, when
I bought this car for $700. After changing a tire, and dumping new gas
in the carb, it jump started, and drove it to my friends, so we could
use his garage to do the body work. Of course the passenger door would
not latch, so to drive it, we had to tie the door shut. (Nov 11th, 2002) the exhaust was hanging down, and missing a few bolts on the manifold, so got that fixed, and is a lot quieter. |
|
(Nov 13th, 2002) We started body work, cutting the rust
out of the fender. Also got it tagged and insured. :) (Nov 14th, 2002) I bought a set of tail lights off ebay for $36.74 as the passenger one had a good sized dent in the chrome ring. |
|
(Nov 16th, 2002) Heh, needed parts, so went to the old farm, and ripped parts from this 65 Galaxie 500. After this, I managed to get the passenger door fixed, so it now latches. Also the windows did not want to roll up and down in the doors, and both outside door knobs were missing the innards. So I worked on that. On the way home I saw a 67 Galaxie Custom 500 for sale. Gonna check to see what they want for it.
(Nov 26th, 2002) Well I received the tail lights from ebay the other day, and I can make one complete nice tail light to replace the right one with the dented chrome. I also have driven the car to town, and filled it with fuel, only to find when I returned it to the garage, that the fuel sending unit seal in the tank is leaking, and the fuel pump. At least 2 of the plugs are fowled, and runs like crap. Well, I bought new Bosh Platinums (Had Bosh Supers before) for it, cap, rotor, and a new fuel pump. Didn't notice the tank till after I bought the other parts. That guy with the 67 was never home, or didn't want to sell it that bad. Prolly his wife wanting the garage cleaned out, told him to sell it, so she could park some piece of crap, like a geo in there.
(Mar 18th, 2003) Haven't done much, with winter, and not having a heated garage to work on the Galaxie in, but I did work on my mom's car. This is after I painted the thing, my first paint job, so isn't that bad. also the car is dirty as she has been driving it. 1980 Ford Thunderbird Town Landau. It still needs a new vinyl top.....
(Jun 11th, 2003) Replaced the motor mounts, can't remember the price, wasnt bad, like $14 a piece, put in a new ignition switch, like $9, just the electrical part. Replaced the bad tire $40. Found a place outside of town that deals in old cars, so been trying to get ahold of them for parts. Said he didnt have any window registers, as the ones are bad on mine. Found a guy who had a whole car for $250, but I didnt have any place to store a whole vehicle. Found the frame was pretty rusty on this car, so I ripped the 65 galaxie to pieces, took the body to the recycle yard afterwards, but I kept most of anything else of value from it. The frame was pretty bad off under it too, once I got it out, and could get a good look at it. So now I am looking to find a new frame from something else. I have an old 79 thunderbird, but the wheelbase is 114 inches, and the galaxie is 119, so find something else, or lengthen a frame???? Took it in and shot the thing flat white primer, just to make it look better, till I get the rest of the body work done, but I sorta was putting that off till I either change the frame, or have the one in it welded. Heh, also got the vinyl top on that 80 t-bird of mom's. :) My first time redoing a vinyl top, so it isnt that bad :P Added the Galaxie to cardomain, so you can check it out there too.
(June 16th, 2006) I picked up another car for parts. The motor and transmission was missing, and is kind of beat up, so will use the frame out of it for my Galaxie. |
