Alanna:The First Adventure-This is a book about a
headstrong young girl who doesn't want to be trained as
a noblewoman, but she does want to be a knight. So she
and her twin brother Thom, who wants to be a sorcerer instead
of a knight, trade places. Alanna dresses up as a boy and
becomes a page at the royal palace, the first step in training
to be a knight. This is the story of her four years as
a page. It doesn't take her long to make friends, such as
the heir to the throne, Prince Jonathan; the King of Thieves;
George Cooper; the old knight, Myles; and other young pages
and squires from the palace. But she also makes enemies,
such as Prince Jonathan's sorcerer uncle, Duke Roger, who
teaches her to use her magic, and Ralon of Malven. She
has to deal with the hard training, evil gods, and a deadly
magical sickness. Return to the top of this page

undergo the Ordeal of Knighthood. If she becomes a knight, she must
tell everyone she's a girl and also face down her biggest enemy, Duke
Roger of Conte. Return to the top of this page
Woman Who Rides Like a Man-Early into the book, Alanna's sword is
broken in a fight. But before she has a chance to mend it, she and Coram
are adopted by the Bloody Hawk, one of the tribes of desert people. She
has to contend with an evil shaman, a crystal sword made by Duke Roger,
training three young people in magic, and a dying Voice of the Tribes. Return to the top of this page
Lioness Rampant-Alanna and Coram meet up with a Shang fighter and
journey to the Roof of the World to retrieve a jewel with mysterious powers
to help Tortall. On the way, they meet Thayet, a princess fleeing from
her homeland, and Thayet's bodyguard Buri. Back in Corus, there is trouble
in the Rouge and someone is trying to kill George. But that's the least
of the problems. Alanna's twin Thom has brought Duke Roger back from the
dead and though no one knows, he's still planning to take the throne, killing
everyone in his way if he has to! Return to the top of this page
