The Delta Flyer's weapons systems were inspired by Borg technology; it has fore and aft phaser strips and a micro-torpedo launcher that can fire photonic missiles. B'Elanna Torres suggested using titanium alloys for the hull, but on Seven-of-nine's recommendation the crew chose tetraburnium because of its higher structual integrity characteristics. Also para-metallic hull plating was used to reinforce the hull against weapons fire. The Delta Flyer's Unimatrix Defensive Shields were designed by commander Tuvok from Starfleet and Borg combined technology. The ship is larger and more rugged than a class-2 shuttle, but smaller than a Danube-Class Runabout.
New Delta Flyer
The New Delta Flyer has only been seen using micro-photon torpedoes. These are fired from the same launcher as photonic missiles were on the original Delta Flyer. This could mean that the crew decided to use more standard Federation weapons over the Borg photonic missiles. Also, In "Body And Soul" ensign Kim remodulated the Delta Flyer's deflector dish to emmitt a pulse that would disable an enemy vessel's weapons systems by overloading them. It was used and worked on it's first try.
