The Might Thor  # 1: "In Search of the Gods"

Synopsis:
A hostage taker, believing himself to be Heimdall, demands to see Thor. Desperate to find his fellow Asgardians, Thor takes the 'Heimdall' to Asgard and learns he's just a lunatic. Returning to Earth, Thor learns that the Destroyer, powered by the spirit of a disgruntled general, is on a rampage and he joins the Avengers in battle against it. Unfortunately, the Destroyer is too much for them and he deals a fatal blow to Thor. Paramedic Jake Olsen who is on the scene saving lives is also killed.

The Might Thor  # 2: "Deal with the Devil"

Synopsis:
The Avengers continue the battle against the Destroyer, while Thor bargains for his life with the mysterious Marnot in Hela's realm. Marnot restores Thor to life by merging his life-force with Jake Olsen. Thor rejoins the battle and exiles the Destroyer to deep space.

Synopsis:
Thor begins to live Jake Olsen's life and has a lot of adjusting to do. Sedna, the Inuit goddess of the sea, seeks out Thor as a mate. Thor resists and Sedna summons her pet sea monster who promptly eats Mjolnir. Sedna captures Thor in her deadly embrace.

Synopsis:
Thor is rescued by Namor, retrieves Mjolnir  and together they drive off the sea beast. Sedna decides to withdraw to her arctic waters.  Thor can't deal with Jake Olsen's family life. Meanwhile, Majeston Zelia's thralls have sacked Asgard and imprisoned Odin.

Synopsis:
Chuck Diamond, a shock-rock radio dj starts up a smear campaign against Thor. Jake Olsen goes beyond his role as paramedic and uses Dr. Blake's skills to save a life. Meanwhile, a pro-hero fan takes Diamond hostage and Thor comes to rescue despite Diamond's radio assault. Asgard is further transformed and Majeston Zelia arrives.

Synopsis:
Thor,  as Jake Olsen, refuses a medal for bravery for Captain America since he feels unworthy having let Olsen die. He then seeks out Hercules who really doesn't want to be bothered. After some fisticuffs, Thor recruits Hercules to help him uncover what has ravaged Asgard. They travel to Olympus only to discover that it has been ravaged as well.

Synopsis:
Majeston Zelia gloats over Odin as she shows him the transformed Asgard. Thor and Hercules defend themselves against a handful of Olympian Gods, until Zeus appears. He reveals that the Asgardians invaded Olympus and their attack left it in ruins. Thor refuses to believe it and Hercules stands beside him. Zeus sends them both back to Earth. Meanwhile, we learn that one of the Dark Gods D'Chel used his powerful illusions to fool the Olympians.

Jay's Notes:
Jurgen's plot is solid, however this issue's dialogue is almost painful. Yet, John Romita JR carries the story with his outstanding art.


The Might Thor  # 8: "... And the Home of the Brave!"

Synopsis:
A mysterious force keeps Thor from returning to Asgard. Meanwhile, Majeston Zelia continues to torture Odin by forcing him to watch Balder's apparent death at the hands of her minions. However, one of her minions pierces the barrier to Earth and stirs up trouble. Thor and Spidey team-up to confront the creature.

Synopsis:
Thor and Spidey battle the Tokkots and try to contain the damage their battle causes. Unfortunately, Aunt May is caught in the crossfile and Spidey has to rescue her. They get the upper hand against the Tokkots when Peter's beeper goes off and is frequency causes them great pain. They are defeated and Aunt May is safe.

Jay's Notes:
A terrible issue with a weak story title, irratating villains, and a pathetic resolution.

Synopsis:
Thor helps the police stop Replicus and the kids who revived the dangerous robot. Thor searches for answers to the destruction of Asgard and consults a former foe Orikal. But, it is Marnot who tells Thor of the origins of the Dark Gods and their relationship to Asgard.


The Might Thor Annual ' 99: "Tears of a God"

Synopsis:
Thor meets up with the Fantastic Four and he recounts the adventure with Dr. Doom in the events of Heroes Reborn: The Return. Thor and Dr. Doom were trapped in an alien dimension. Thor was nursed back to health by a sorceress called Ceranda who had actually used her magic to bring them to her since she desired some companionship. However, Dr. Doom goes about an seizes control of the rest of the planet and attacks Thor and Ceranda. Doom reveals that it is her magic that keeps them stranded here and deals her a mortal blow. She dies and Thor and Doom return to the Earth dimension.

Jay's Notes:

  • Jansen's inks are not as sharp as they normally are.
  • Ceranda death is meaningless and used as a weak plot device.

The Might Thor  # 10: "The Dark Wars Part I"

Synopsis:
Thor, who plans to confront the Dark Gods, makes preparations for Jake Olsen's absence. However, Perrikus issues a challenge and Thor takes him up. Perrikus destroys Mjolnir and defeats Thor, who changes into Olsen and flees.

Jay's Notes:

  • The Tokkots' rhyming speech is incredibly annoying!
