Odin is unable to slay his son again, and quickly brings an end to the battle between the Olympians and Eternals. Zuras and Zeus make peace and Odin departs. Thor investigates his father's riddle about the pluck eye he sacrificed for knowledge (circa Thor #274) and travels to a distant dimension. He battles and imprisons Odin's lost eye demanding its knowledge. |

The lost eye of Odin taps into Thor's mind and delves into his past, beyond his birth. Two thousand years ago, another Asgard, the one of Viking legend, was overcome by Ragnarok. Odin, Thor, Balder, Loki and many others died as foretold on that day. From the ruins of Asgard arose nine survivors: Balder, Hoder, Vili, Ve, Vidar, Vali, Hoenir, Magni, and Modi. Jay's Notes:

Magni and Modi discover Thor's hammer and dispatch it to Earth where its impact creates the Rhine river and a hoard of gold called the Rhinegold. Vili, Ve, Vidar, and Vali join together through Gungnir to become Odin. Odin then brings the Asgardians we know to life and lies to them about their creation. Odin has two storm giants, Fafnir and Fasolt to build the walls of Asgard in exchange for the fair Idunn. Loki had vowed to trick them so that Odin would never have to pay the price. Loki turns over Idunn to the giants, but Thor intercedes and attacks them. Odin puts a quick end to the battle since he is held by his pledge. Meanwhile on Earth, Alberich the Gnome steals the Rhinegold. Jay's Notes:

Odin's lost eye reveals more secret history to Thor. Odin is forced to give up Idunn to the Storm Giants, but thanks to Loki's trickery they're willing to give her back for the Rhinegold. Odin, Thor, and Loki confront Alberich who has fashion the Rhinegold into the Ring of Nibelung. They defeat him and win the horde, but not before Alberich curses the ring. Odin reluctantly turns over the ring to the Giants and Fafnir kills Fasolt so he won't have to share the prize. |

Odin's lost Eye reveals that Odin had fathered a human son, Siegmund. Siegmund is swept up in a duel against Hunding. Frigga, Odin's wife, demands that Odin not intercede on his son's behalf because she is jealous of Odin's affair. Odin dispatches Brunnhilda the Valkyrie to strip him of his enchanted sword. She disobeys and Odin is forced to intercede directly and kill Siegmund. Jay's Notes:

Odin's lost eye continues to reveal more secret history to Thor. Brunnhilda hides Sieglinda, who is pregnant with Siegmund's child. Odin catches up with Brunnhilda and punishes her by making her mortal. In addition, she will be forced to be a subservient wife to the first man she meets. Meanwhile, Sieglinda gives birth to Siegfried, but she dies in childbirth. A dwarf named Mime raises Siegfried and together they forge a magical sword. Mime needs to teach Siegfried the meaning of fear and they go after Fafnir who has taken the form of a dragon. Jay's Notes:

Odin's lost eye continues to reveal more secret history to Thor. Siegfried does battle with Fafnir and slays the monster. He gains possession of the Ring of the Nibelung. Mime attempts to kill him, but Siegfried is too clever. Odin lures Siegfried to the area where he has kept Brunnhilda. Siegfried overcomes the heat and the fire to reach Brunnhilda and they fall in love. |

Odin's lost eye continues to reveal more secret history to Thor. Brunnhilda convinces Siegfried to leave her behind and pursue his destiny. He is tricked by Hagen (the son of Alberich) drugged and falls in love with Gunther's sister while Gunther demands a suitable bride before he will permit them to wed. Seigfried returns to the mountain of fire and returns with Brunnhilda who he turns over to Gunther. Brunnhilda reveals that Seigfried has sworn his love to her but Gunther's men can kill him and he's forced to withdraw the marriage pact. |

Odin's lost eye concludes its tale to Thor. Siegfried is killed by Hagen, the son of Albreich. Odin resurrects Siegfried as Thor, but strips him of all memories. The various pantheons of Gods challenge the Celestials and fail. They are forced to pledge not to interfere with the Celestial's judgment of Earth. Thor returns to Asgard and learns that Odin, and the life force of all Asgardians, have merged with the Destroyer. The Destroyer armed with the Odin Sword teams up with the Uni-mind to attack the Celestials. Thor joins the battle, but after a valient struggle they are defeated. However, Gaia appears and offers twelve human beings in exchange for sparing this world. The Celestials agree and take the twelve with them leaving Gaia and Thor behind to pick up the pieces. |
