Castles, Housing, and Architecture
  • Medieval English Urban History - A subsection of ORB with info on town histories, office holdings, and links to other sites on the subject. "The aim of this section is to provide historical information about cities and towns in England during the Middle Ages, with particular emphasis on medieval boroughs of East Anglia and on social, political and constitutional history. A selection of primary documents (translated into English) relevant to English urban history is included."

Clothing
  • 12th-13th Century Clothing - Info on different garments including the bliaut, pelice/pelicon, cotte/coate, surcotte/surcoate, and headdresses.
  • Braies - Info on this medieval undergarment.
  • Footwear of the Middle Ages - A good site with plenty of info about, of course, the footwear of the middle ages. Complete with diagrams and information on how the footwear was made.
  • Museum Replicas Limited - A place with not just medieval weapons, but period clothing as well! Complete with photos.
  • Some Clothing of the Middle Ages - "This document is intended to be a cursory examination, for people interested in historical recreation and replication, of the extant archaeological and museum materials relating to clothing in the Middle Ages." The primary focus is that of England and Scandinavia.

Food
  • A Boke of Gode Cookery: How to Cook Medieval - A great site on medieval foods. "The purpose of this website is to explain and discuss the foodstuffs and cooking procedures that were available in the Middle Ages & Renaissance, in order to re-create more authentically the medieval foods and recipes that are being prepared today."
  • Early Medieval Brewing - Good info on how Anglo-Saxons and Vikings brewed their drinks. Helpful definitions to brewing terms.
  • Medieval English Brewing - Info on the how beer and ale was made as well as their differences from their modern counterparts.
  • Medieval Food - Info on farming and eating habits as well as what was eaten and drank.

Other
  • Arild Hauge's Runes - Information on Scandinavian runes, history, culture and art, and the pre-viking period. Includes a link to Norwegian stave churches.
  • Joan of Arc (Jehanne D'arc) - An excellent webpage about the Maiden of Orleans that strives to dispel the myth about her. Complete with pics and transcripts.
  • Notes on Real Life for the Upper Classes in the Middle Ages - A wonderful article describing just how the medieval ladies managed to walk in their long gowns without tripping on the hems. There is also info on dinner etiquette, personal hygeine, castle life, and a practical explanation about "rushes on the floor".
  • The Skuldelv 3 Ship - A page about the wreckage of a Viking Age ship in Roskilde Fjord in eastern Denmark. Complete with photos.
  • The Viking Answer Lady - A good, researched site with articles on Viking daily life, technology, agriculture, war, arts, myths, and more.

Armour, Weapons, and Warfare
  • A.E.M.M.A. - Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts. "The mission of A.E.M.M.A is to resurrect the combat skills, philosopies and principles of an accomplished European Medieval martial artist and to acheive a state of which would be consistent with that of a medieval warrior in both technology and ideal." Has articles, photos, and diagrams.
  • Archery FAQs - A collection of FAQs on archery reference, construction and mainentance, different forms of archery, and shooting.
  • The Armour Archive - "The Archive is an on-line Journal devoted to teaching people how to make armour. ... The collection of essays found within this site is just one source available. The message boards on the Archive are frequented by many advanced armourers who willingly share their knowledge with newcomers to the craft." A good site with useful articles and a pattern archive.
  • Armouring Links - A large links page with topics on general armouring, types of armour including Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Mongolian, chain mail, plates, lamellar, leather, and scale.
  • Matt Galas' Sword Stats - An interesting set of tables containing the lengths and weights of many historical swords.
  • Mediæval Sword Resource Site - "This noncommercial site has been established in order to provide information of interest to students and collectors of European Dark and Middle Ages swords and other edged weapons, with a particular focus on the swords of the Viking Age."
  • Montanaro's Medieval Period - "This website is designed to serve the viewing public with some informative historical information pertaining to the Middle Ages (typically known as the period of history between 400 a.d. and 1400), providing a comprehensive reference for re-enactors, gamers, students, writers, Medieval buffs, or anyone else who might find a use for such information." Includes a glossary of arms and armor, complete with some photos, that I especially like.
  • NetSword - ...an Internet discussion group for medieval and renaissance swords, daggers and associated weapons of war. In this series of forums we discuss modern replicas of historical swords along with many other types of weapons and their related fighting techniques. We also discuss all types of historical swords, and the artifacts and events surrounding weapons and warfare from medieval and renaissance times. In addition, we have forums on religion and politics to cover general history, and another one on culture."
  • The Sword Forum International - This is a site I highly recommend. "...An academic organization and conservation society which promotes history and culture through the study of swords and swordsmanship." This site has a good discussion forum and fantastic articles.
