Welcome to The Stonehouse of Campbellville!
The Stonehouse of Campbellville is both a large stained glass studio with an on-site interpretive centre, and a retail store selling leaded antique stained glass. At our store, artisans are available daily to demonstrate the methods of working with antique glass and lead cane. We are quite possibly the world's largest dealer in antique stained glass, with our summer display of 3,000+ windows and winter display of 1000-2000 windows. Price range starts at $60 (CAD) and can go up to $25,000.
The History
Most of the windows that we have are imported from England. We have an illuminated display area for windows and we carry both secular and religious glass. We also have a covered area outside that gives shelter against the rain and snow - it houses around 1200 windows. Several windows have handpainted images, and the design elements vary according to the time period and country from which they originated. Inside the shop, we have several of the original cartoons for religious windows that have been done in the past. As you will see on our website, there is information regarding all aspects of antique stained glass. At the store itself, we also have videos available for playing regarding the history and techniques used in stained glass.
The Store
Tours of the shop are also available, and need to be booked in advance. We do not make custom windows for customers, although our artisans are open to doing commissioned windows from time to time. All the windows we have are at least 60 years of age; the average age of our windows is around 80 years, with many from the Victorian era (1870's-1890's). Each year, we bring in at least one steel container full of windows. These containers usually arrive in the spring and/or in the fall, and typically carry 1000-1500 stained glass windows.
Wander through the hundreds of antique stained glass windows propped up on wooden racks at a store just west of Toronto and you may feel a little like you're glimpsing the ghosts of the past.
