Rollercoasters
Some people go to amusement parks only for the rollercoasters there. While I am not one of
these people, I never pass up a chance to ride a new coaster. Here are some pages I have
about rollercoasters:
Evaluations of the coasters I have ridden:
My Top 5 favorite coasters:
In alphabetical order, not order of preference
- Anaconda,
at Paramount's Kings Dominion
- One of my two favorite coasters overall. From the six loops
to the underwater tunnel, this ride has what it takes to make
it a superb experience.
- Avalanche,
at Paramount's Kings Dominion
- This is notable for its bobsled design. Quite different from
most coasters. Very enjoyable.
- The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear,
at Paramount's Kings Dominion
- Best "thrill ride" ever. You scream all the way through, only to
scream for more when you're done. Not my favorite strictly as a
coaster, but love the whole experience. The initial "launch" is
something you won't soon forget!
- Space Mountain,
at Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom
- Best themed coaster I've seen. Not quite the "rush" you get from
Outer Limits, but a great ride none the less.
- Vortex,
at Paramount's Carowinds
- Great as a stand-up rollercoaster. Great ride in general.
One you must ride at least half a dozen times every time you
visit the park.
New coasters I haven't had a chance to ride:
- Batman: The Ride, at Six Flags over Georgia
- Another inverted coaster. This one opened in 1997, and is supposedly the
best coaster in the park.
- Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, at Walt Disney World: MGM Studios
- I don't know much about it except that it's opening in 1999 and it's another
themed ride like most everything at Walt Disney World. I'll be there next
summer and will most likely try it out to see what it's like. (Here are
some photos of the ride being built)
- Top Gun: The Jet Coaster, at Paramount's Carowinds
- The first inverted coaster at the park, and one of the first in
the southeast. It is scheduled to open at the beginning of the 1999 season.
- Viper, at Six Flags over Georgia
- This shuttle loop coaster opened in 1995. While shttle loops may not be
very exciting to some people, this is the first chance I've had to ride
one, so I want to experience it just to say that I have. (The only other
one I had access to "White Lightning" at Carowinds, closed before I was
tall enough to ride it!)
- Volcano: The Blast Coaster, at Paramount's Kings Dominion
- The first ever linear-induction inverted coaster in the world. It takes you
through the heart of a volcano, up through the top of the volcanic crater,
and back down again. This ride opened in 1998.
