God's Playground

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth. And God said, "Let there be light," and it was so. And God created the expanse and the waters under the expanse. God called the expanse "sky". And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear," and it was so. God called the dry ground "land" and the gathered waters "seas". And God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees that bear fruit with seeds in it," and it was so. And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them give light to the earth," and it was so. God made two great lights--the sun to govern the day and the moon to govern the night. He also made the stars. And God said, "Let the waters teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth, and let the land produce living creatures, each according to its kind," and it was so. And God said, "Let us make man in our own image," and it was so. God created both male and female. And God blessed them. And God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And on the seventh day, He rested. Everything was exactly the way God wanted it to be.

Evening came and went on God's new world, and the moon and stars hid tehmselves in anticipation of daybreak. And God lifted the sun on golden strings, filling the sky with radiant light. The light glistened on the surface of the blue-green sea where two majestic bottle-nosed dolphins swam side by side in the warmth of the sun. Above them, a graceful seagull floated in the air. Suddenly, he plunged head-first into the cool water below and emerged, triumphantly displaying his trophy in his beak.

Then God reached down with His hand and pushed some of the water toward the shore. The water rose, curled over, and crashed on top of itself with a deafening roar, spraying white foam and a fine mist of salt water into the crisp morning air. Again, God scooped up some of the water. This time, He sent it towards the home of a little fiddler crab. The water rushed into the crab's hole and woke him up. He clambered out of his hole, gagging and coughing. Once he caught his breath, he scurried across the damp mud toward some unseen destination.

A little further inland, God had sculpted the soft, white sand into a row of large, rounded sandcastles guarding the salt marsh that lay beyond. Each castle was decorated with tall yellow banners that flapped in the breeze.

Just beyond this barricade was a large, swampy marsh filled with waist-high grasses and knee-deep water. Clouds of flying insects hovered above the grass whle tiny little birds fluttered around in search of a tasty meal.

A little further back was a forest of tall, leafy palm trees. God blew on them, and the branches swayed back and forth singing, "Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"

And right in the middle of all of this sat God's greatest creation, man himself, staring in awe at all of the wonders in God's Playground.
