Episode 10 Defiance
-------------------------------------------------------------------
In the last episode of Robotech II: Sentinels, Guardians of Earth the
Robotech Expeditionary Force has completed it's voyage to the
Vallivare System. Holding position behind Fantoma, the fleet has
rendered itself undetectable for the Tirolian Monitoring system.

Proceeding as planned, the SDF-3 neared the planet Tirol. But to the
shock of the crew on board the SDF-3, they were attacked by the Invid.
Suffering considerable losses, General Rick Hunter ordered to fire the
Main Gun.

Fighting the Invid off, the SDF-3 has returned to the fleet. Both to
undergo repairs as well as deliberate what to do next.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Rick Hunter sat alone at the bridge of the SDF-3. Around him, all the
screens were blank. There was no sound. Piercing the silence, the
alarms signalled an upcoming attack. Rick ran over to the
communication officer's station. There was no reply from any of the
sections. The radar too showed nothing. Scared, Rick looked around,
his eyes wide.

In front of the bridge, a Zentraedi Monitor prepared to unleash a
blast from it's Reflex Cannon. Rick stared right into it, as the front
split open, and the energy started to build up. "What's going on
here?!?" He yelled. Then the Monitor fired. Light engulfed Rick,
knocked him out. "What was that?" He murmured as he got back on his
feet. "Haaha!" Frightened, he looked at the giants who stared at him.
"This can't be happening...." Rick reeled all over the place, unable
to coordinate his movement. "You, Micronian, what is your knowledge of
ProtoCulture?" A quavering voice asked. Slowly the face moved into the
light. Rick couldn't beleive his eyes. "Wha...?" A hand grabbed him.
"Now, Micronian, how do you come into this world?" The hand holding
Rick belonged to....Dolza!

"We're born into this world!" A female voice shouted. "Lisa?" Rick
turned to look back. There she was. Lisa, standing, defying the
Zentraedi onlookers. "Demonstrate this the instant." Dolza's voice
roared. Rick dropped to his feet as he was set free. "Lisa, what is
going on here?" But she took him by his shoulders and kissed him
passionately.

"Rick, you can't do this to me!" Rick ended the kiss abruptly as a
different female voice could be heard. Slowly, he turned to face
Dolza. But where Dolza was, now stood Minmei, towering over him and
Lisa. "You can't do this to me!" She repeated. "I...I..." Rick
stammered. Totally out of control, his knees collapsed.

"Rick, Rick, wake up!" Lisa called to him. "Wha..?" He opened his eyes
and looked around. Then he fell back on his pillow again, wiped the
sweat from his forehead. "This was awfull." Rick took a drink of
water. Lisa sat at his side. "Want to talk about it?" She said with a
soft voice. Rick nodded, and told her what he remembered. Lisa stroked
Rick's hair. "It was a scary day, it's not strange that you dream
about it then." She tried to explain. But she couldn't explain why
Minmei was in Rick's nightmare. She put her face on Rick's chest.
"What made you think about Minmei, Rick?" She carressed him. "I don't
know." Rick said, and gave his wife a kiss. "I really don't know."

Deep below the surface of Tirol, hiding from the sensors of the Invid,
Cabell has set up a rudimentary space monitor system. Using a link to
the satelites around Tirol, he was able to follow the proceedings. The
image was very distorted however, Cabell thinks the end has come to
their desperate situation.

"I'm telling you, the Zentraedi have returned. They engaged the
Invid." The man with the long beard spoke. "I witnessed how a
Battlecruiser, a modified design, destroyed a whole squadron of  Invid
carriers." A hum of voices arose from the people around him.
"Therefore, we must take actions to signall them of our presence, and
inform them of our position." A young man interrupted Cabell. "How are
we going to do that? We don't have the equipment to reach them.
There's no way we can get a message through to them." Cabell closed
his eyes. "We do not have that kind of equipment, true. But the Invid
have." This shocked the listeners. One spoke. "Are you suggesting we
take over an Invid relay station?" Rem stood up. "And why not? Are we
going to stay here, underground? Waiting for the Invid to leave? Or
hoping that someone else rids Tirol of them?" Rem looked from one to
the other. "No, we must stand up against them. All these small actions
are so insignificant. The Invid can fill any gap in their forces with
ease. Their hives are filled with unborn Invid, waiting to be taken
out of their suspended state of animation, and revived again."
Cabell's mouth dropped open. Rem gave an exact description of an Invid
Hive, a place he had never seen, neither inside nor outside. Zor's
memories were taking over. His mind began to replace that of Rem.
Cabell ran his fingers through his beard. Somehow, the Invid presence
accelerated the transmutation from Rem to Zor.

"Your Excellency, we have lost several of our people with this
defensive strike. We need to replace them as soon as possible. Also,
we have despatched several space-recon Scouts to follow the attackers.
We expect their reports any moment." The Invid bowed it's head even
deeper in the presence of the Regent. The large creature that ruled
his part of the Invid race clenched his fist. The two small tentacles
protruding from his snout flashed as he spoke. "The attackers would be
very foolish if they think to confront us singlehandedly. There must
be more of them. It is clear the Giants have come to recover their
planet of origin. Therefore, we must locate the rest of their fleet.
Tessla, I'm putting you in charge of a team to come up with a strategy
to defeat the Giants here." Tessla put his hand under his snout,
thinking already of what to do. "This cursed planet can not be
abbandoned by our people." The Regent stated. His long cape flowed
behind him as he walked away. Tessla remained behind, hands folded in
obedience. "My Regent, if the Giants indeed have returned, we are in
greater problems then we ever could have imagined."

The scientist trotted over to a group of other Invid. "We are
receiving the observations of the Scouts." On the screen, the rear of
the SDF-3 was clearly visible. Tessla tilted his head, studying the
vessel. It puzzled him. The craft had definite design-characteristics
similar to those of the Giants fleet, though this particular craft
differed from all the other ones the Invid had seen. Tessla blinked
his pitch-black eyes. "Keep me informed." He returned to his cell to
think in solitude. So many questions formed in his mind.

The SDF-3 had linked up with the fleet again. It showed the results of
the battle it had been in. Several gun batteries had been destroyed,
on a few points, the hull had been breached. "The status is as
follows. We need to replace about 20 or so gun-turrets. Besides that,
the hull must be checked for any other weak spots. The lost Fighters
also need to be replaced." Vince Grant put the report on Lisa's desk.
"Admiral, we are lucky the SDF-3 got away. If General Hunter hadn't
ordered to fire the Main Gun, it's my belief the SDF-3 could have been
destroyed." The SDF-3, flagship of the Robotech Expeditionary Force,
the biggest accomplishment in Robotechnology Earth had ever produced.
And now, it became very clear, that same craft had almost fallen at
the guns of hundreds of small craft.

"Do we have any replacements at hand?" Lisa asked. "The repair
facilities are already working the best they can to produce the
neccesary parts. But that will take some time, Admiral." Vince
admitted. The SDF-3 was more to Vince then just a ship. It was home.
And his home had suffered. Dearly. "Thank you, Dr. Grant. I'll take a
shuttle tomorrow and go and have a look at it myself. We aren't going
anywhere else in this condition anyway. Tell the commander of the Ark
Royal I'll be coming to his ship at O-nine hundred hours." Lisa picked
up the reports and started to read them very carefully.

His hands crossed behind his back, Rick looked at the bridgecrew. Five
young women. Five women who had performed their duty the best they
could, even in the heat of an unsuspected assault. Except for
Sussanna, they all were still in their early twenties. But they had
handled the situation extremely well.

"I want to express my deepest appreciation and commend you for your
performance yesterday. You have proven to be a capable crew." Patricia
and Francis gave each other a confident smile. Mary saluted and
replied. "Thank you, Sir. We are very pleased to hear you confiding in
us Sir. We will do our best, to keep our performance up to this level,
or do better." Rick acknowledged the salute.

A lone figure sat in the observation room. Staring out the window.
Hands tucked together under his chin. The other ships of the REF
passed by. "Was ist schief gegangen?" Dr. Lang closed his eyes,
thoughtfull. From the other side,  a man approached. He wasn't a tall
man, and his red hair had thinned. But that wasn't what troubled
Exedore. "I thought you would be here." His voice broke the almost
solemn silence. For many years, Exedore and Lang had been thinking
over and over again how to deal with the Robotech Masters. The
knowledge Exedore had of the Masters, combined with Lang's unequalled
intelligence had resulted in the Robotech Expeditionary Force. Silent
the two now observed Fantoma.

"We had never even thought of the possibility that the Masters would
be so desperate as to leave Tirol undefended." Exedore started the
conversation. "There were too many threats to the capitol. Even our
departure, when we the Zentraedi were sent after Zor's ship, gravely
undermined the defences. And the fact that the Invid have stepped
forward to take Tirol, is totally illogical." Lang was surprised.
"How's that? Are there even bigger threats out there? Can we expect
any more of these Invid to come at us?" Exedore took a deep breath of
air. "Dr. Lang, the Tirolian Empire stretches out over a great number
of planets. As you know, we were created to police those worlds. To
suppress any resistance. When Zor had discovered the power of
ProtoCulture, this meant a leap forward in interplanetary travel, and
it even opened the path to intergalactic travel. His missions to
Optera, to retreive the Flower of Life, the main producer of
ProtoCulture, were not without danger. The inhabitants of Optera, the
Invid, thrive on the Flower of Life. They need it for their survival.
Zor had seduced the Regis into allowing him to secretly take seeds of
the Flower of Life back to Tirol. Inside his fortress, he installed a
ProtoCulture Matrix. Zor had learned the process to generate energy
from the Flower of Life. Meanwhile on Optera, through some still
unexplained process, the Regis created a male counterpart, called the
Regent. As far as our research goes, we beleive the Regent, strange as
it may sound, was actually formed out of the negative sensations the
Regis had when she learned Zor had only used her to gain access to the
Flower of Life." Exedore paused.

"When the Robotech Masters learned of the process to generate power
from the Flower of Life, they saw the need to gain an advantage over
the Invid. At that time, the Invid were a peacefull race. One day
however, Tirolian vessels appeared in the skies over Optera and
unleashed a toxic gas. Within weeks, all of the Flowers on Optera
withered away. The Invid had to leave the planet in search of other
seeding ground for the Flower. Seeking refuge on Haydon V, they
recovered. There, the Flower grew again. The leaders of the Invid, the
Regent and Regis, had started to opose each other. The Regent blamed
the Regis for letting her steal the Flower of Life. This devided the
Invid race. But whatever side it was, they had turned into vicious,
tenacious creatures. From their hide-outs, they started a guerilla war
against us. We have never been able to decisively strike at the
Invid."

"You spoke of several threats to the Tirolian Empire." Lang asked.
Exedore continued. "After Zor had learned of the defoliation of
Optera, he confronted the Masters. Enraged, he accused them of
perverting his creation, Robotechnology. The Masters dismissed Zor's
accusation, and went forth with their plans of universal conquest. But
Zor knew he had a trump-card, as you Humans put it." Lang filled in.
"The Matrix!" Exedore nodded. "Excellent, Doctor. Yes, Zor had formed
a group of loyallists, named the Disciples of Zor. They refused to
acknowledge the rules of the Masters. But due to the fact that they
were taking great riscs, the Disciples relocated to another planet.
>From there they started a campaign to liberate the worlds of the
Tirolian Empire from the Robotech Masters rule. The Invid, however,
had tracked down Zor's vessel. While on a seeding mission, they
attacked his fortress. We came too late to save Zor. He was too badly
wounded and died. But not untill his Fortress left the planet on
auto-pilot. Zor had plotted a course for the craft in such an
emergency. You know what happened after that."

"Ja, so if I understand you correctly, those Disciples of Zor could
cause even more problems then the Invid?" Lang adjusted his belt.
Exedore stroke his hair back. "The Disciples of Zor have been waging
war against the Tirolian Empire for at least three generations. They
are ruthless. Their arsenal is very impressive. A good match to our
Zentraedi weapons." Exedore's big eyes followed a passing vessel. "A
very good match." "But they are following the principles for which Zor
gave his life. Freedom in the universe." Lang wondered. "Well, yes and
no. Despite their initial cause for rebellion against the Masters, the
Disciples are not really obeying to their own principle too literally.
There are numerous reports of planets wiped out because they
sympathized with either the Masters or the Invid." This shocked Lang.
"Planets wiped out?" It reminded him of the Zentraedi Holocaust that
struck Earth. "But how?" Exedore sounded grim when he answered. "The
Disciples are not only Tirolians. A lot of them are Zentraedi, either
micronized or not. Many crews have defected to the Disciples, taking
their craft with them. Once they reached the hide-out of the Disciples
the tracking device was removed, rendering the craft undetectable for
the Masters long range scanners." Dr. Lang listened to the Zentraedi
with growing concern. "This fleet of the Disciples, do you have an
estimate on the number of vessels?" Exedore lifted his arms,
indicating he didn't know exactly. What he said, shocked Lang.
"Somewhere between 1 to 2 million craft."

Pioneer City looked peacefull. Cars drove through the streets, people
crossed the pavements. Some were alone, others in groups, and some in
pairs. Jack Baker and Karen Penn walked from the base to their homes.
"That was some rough baptism of fire." Jack said. Karen aggreed. Both
had piloted a plane in yesterdays battle. "How many did you take out?"
The young girl thought for a second or so. "Uhm, four or five, I
think." She counted on her fingers. "And you?" "Five, confirmed,
though I'm sure I greased two others as well." He grumbled. "Mikey got
seven. Can you beleive that? Seven!" Karen raised her eyebrows. "Mike
Fields? He got seven?" She remembered that pilot. "Wow. I never
imagined him becoming an ace." Jack scratched his jaw. "Neither did I.
But he really kicked some butt out there!" Karen let out a short
chuckle. Jack always seemed to surprise her. She had to admit, her
father was right, he was a hot-shot. But a very considerate hot-shot.
However, Gamma-group had lost one of it's members. And Jack had to
inform his parents. A task, no one likes to do. Jack had taken care of
it with dignity. "I just hope he doesn't start to repress it." Karen
thought.

"Did I tell you I'm going to shuttle Admiral Hayes to the Ark Royal
tomorrow?" Jack said triumphantly. "No, but that's quite an honour.
How'd you pull that off?" Karen asked. "General Hunter has personally
selected me on the Factory." He patted his chest. "Yep, I impressed
General Hunter through my dedication." Karen gave him a kiss on his
cheeck. "Hey, why did you do that?" "I'm proud of you. That's why." A
blushing Karen said. Jack sighed. "Karen, it's not that I don't want
to, but... we're both pilots. One of us could get killed some day."
She took his hand. "Jack, I know that too. But isn't it better to get
those feelings out, then to keep them to yourself?" Jack stared at
her. His eyes betrayed his doubts. "I... I'm just scared. What if I
get killed, then what will you do?" "Jack, understand me. I love you,
and there's nothing that can prevent me from feeling what I'm feeling
for you. Not even our jobs." Her blue eyes were fixed on Jack's. "That
makes sense." Jack relaxed. "You're right. If I keep hiding behind the
fact that I'm a fighterpilot, I'm never going to find me some women."
He hadn't said it or Karen gave him a good nudge in the stomach. "Now
what?" Jack gasped for air. "Find you some woman? Is that it?" Karen
looked angry. "Oh, that. I meant, I can't start something worthwhile
with a girl... with you," Gasp. "if I keep thinking I'm going to die
tomorrow." Karen put her hand for her mouth. "I'm sorry, but it
sounded to me like I was just some girl to you." Jack inhaled deeply,
stretched himself, then let the air out again. "You're not, to me
you're not." He placed his arm around Karen's waist and together they
walked through Pioneer City.

"My excellency, your suspect has been proven to be correct. There is a
fleet. It's holding position on the far side of Fantoma. As far as the
Scouts have reported, there is no indication they are ready for
combat." Tessla brought the report to the Regent. The tall Invid
raised his head. "Excellent. We will assemble a strike force as soon
as possible. Have the carriers standing by to receive reinforcements.
The Giants will be defeated."

Tessla began a sentence, then stopped. "Yes, My Excellency, it shall
be as you ordered." His stature was much smaller then that of the
Regent. Still, compared to a human, even Tessla was a powerfull
creature.

Deep inside the Hive, one by one, Invid were picked up and transported
to their mecha. The strike force grew as time passed. "Perhaps these
Giants came to return the Flower of Life to the Masters. We will know
soon enough." The Regent surveyed the proceedings. What could possibly
stop them this time...

"Oh, Rick, don't worry. I'll be back in three hours. Besides, we have
an escort to guard us from here to the Ark Royal. Why are you so
concerned?" Lisa went up the steps to the shuttle launchbay. "Because,
my dear Admiral, we were very close to getting wiped out two days ago.
And I don't want such a thing to happen today. Not while you are in a
shuttle." They reached the top of the stairs, Lisa stood waiting for
Rick. "The Ark Royal is only ten minutes flying. I'm pretty sure, that
won't put us in any danger." Lisa said confident. Rick looked at the
shuttle. "That craft has no defences. If only one of those Invid gets
past the Veritechs..." Lisa put a hand on Rick's face and turned it so
she could look him in the eye. "Stop this constant worrying, Rick.
After all, I'm in the shuttle, and you're at the bridge of the SDF-3."

Outside of the bay, five Battloids were awaiting the departure of the
shuttle. In the cockpit, Jack Baker checked and rechecked the gages.
"Yep, all is running very smooth." He gazed though the canopy at the
Battloids. "Now you boys better keep an eye out for those things. I
don't want to see those party-crashers during this flight."

Lisa entered the shuttle. "Admiral, Sergeant Baker reporting. I'll be
piloting you to the Ark Royal." Jack switched on the boosters. Slowly,
the engine lit up. "Well, Sergeant Baker. I hope the flight will be
without any problems." Lisa took the seat nearest to the cockpit. Out
of the small room, Jack replied. "Don't worry Admiral, this is going
to be the best flight you've ever had." Lisa was amazed by the
cockiness of her shuttlepilot. "Oh, really? Let me tell you, I've been
on quite a number of shuttles, with an equal number of different
pilots. We'll see how you handle this."

>From the organic looking hull of the SDF-3, the mechanicall shape of
the shuttle emerged. Slowly, it drifted away, then turned right and
the engines came to life. Elsewhere, other engines came to life.

"You'd better alert the escort group. We've got enemies coming in."
The radar showed several craft coming in in a cluster formation.
Julie, using the new data-sheet, had identified the craft as Invid
Scouts. "This is SDF-3 bridge calling Omega group. Bogeys coming your
way. We're sending reinforcements. Protect the shuttle, repeat:
protect the shuttle." Mary switched channels. "Skull Squadron,
scramble. Enemy craft are threatening the shuttle en route to the Ark
Royal. Omega group is outnumbered."

Rick, informed of the threatening situation, had rushed back to the
bridge. "Tell Commander Sterling I'm sending in armoured Veritechs. We
can't fire the Main Gun now, without the risk of hitting our own
vessels." He looked at the radar, then went to Mary's station.
"Commander Wood, get the Gamma group on the Armoured Veritechs." For a
moment, Mary froze, then sent the order to Gamma group. The group in
which Mike Fields was number two.

"This is Sergeant Fields, message acknowledged." The screen showed him
in the Veritech. "Sergeant Fields, you are to rendez-vous with Skull
Squadron at coordinates Charlie-Delta three three five." The First
Officer checked the radar. "Roger bridge." Mike's face disappeared
from the screen.

>From the bays of the SDF-3, four heavily armed and armoured craft
raced to the site where Skull Squadron was already combatting the
Invid Scouts. Balls of fire indicated several craft got hit at fatal
spots. "This is Commander Sterling to Gamma Group. There's several
groups of Invid attackers. They don't seem to have a particular
target. I'm sending the Omega group back to resume protection of the
shuttle. You guys follow me. Take out the Carriers."

The screen in his Veritech showed a great number of friendly and an
even greater number of enemy craft. Mike isolated the Carriers from
the other craft. There were four. "This is Gamma Leader. Team, lock
onto to the Carriers. On my signall..." He waited for the solid lock.
The long beep followed. "FIRE!!"

Dozens of missiles were launched from the craft. The trails of smoke
soon disappeared, and Mike looked at the screen. The lines of the
missiles got closer to the Carriers. His fingers itched as he waited
for the impact, he could hear his heart beat in his chest. The lines
became erratic as they homed in on the Carriers, overwhelming them
from all sides. Some blew up before reaching the targets. But the
majority hit the targets. At the receiving end of the missiles, the
Carriers held their positions and were easy targets.

"That's just plain stupid." Mike thought as he watched the Carriers
get hit by missile after missile. "They don't even evade them."

"Admiral, I've been told a group of three Invid have broken through
and are heading for the fleet. Uhm... We're between them and the
fleet..." The young pilot checked the controls and response time of
the shuttle, by executing some manouevres. "This bucket is way too
sluggish. There's no way I can loose those craft." Jack concluded.
"SDF-3, this is shuttle Lambda-one. We need help. Repeat, we need...
Oh no..." Jack's eyes went wide as he saw the Invid Scout racing his
way. Why Jack didn't know, but the craft didn't open fire. Instead it
lifted it's claw, then skimmed over the shuttle. Not a moment later,
metal scraped metal, a loud shreeking sound filled the shuttle. All
kinds of alert went off in the cockpit. Jack's eyes ran over the
instruments. "The engine is out, there's no lateral control. And we're
headed straight for that planet."

Rick followed the battle with growing concern. Now that the shuttle
had been hit, he ordered the fighters to try and recover it. "That's
not possible, there are too many Invid here." Max responded. "We need
to take those out first. I'm sorry Rick."

"The shuttle is going down, General." Inside the strikken craft, Jack
called to Lisa. "Admiral, I'm not going to keep this thing in the air
much longer. Get into the cockpit. I can jettison the cockpit away
from the shuttle." Quickly, Lisa got out of her seat, and hurried to
the cockpit.

Behind them, Scouts were still pressing their attack. They had taken
out the shuttle on the run, slashing away it's tail and engine. Their
main target was the fleet. The Invid never questioned commands of the
Regent. They followed orders. Getting in range of the gun turrets,
they had no chance of survival. Completing the mission was more
important than to mourn over a fallen comrade.

Pursuing the Invid, Gamma group sped forward. Unleashing salvos of
missiles, they fought their way through the waves of red craft. "I
can't beleive they just run into the fleet like this." Mike took out
another Scout. The red craft seemed to ignore all losses to their
side. Driven only to penetrate deeper into the fleet.

"General, the shuttle has been caught by Tirol gravitational pull.
They can't get back to us." Patricia said. Rick followed the path of
the shuttle on the screen. Then the blip lit up, indicating the
shuttle had exploded. "LISA!!!" He screamed. Patricia's mouth dropped
open in disbelief. Julie checked the radar. "I'm sorry Sir, but
there's only debris falling to the planet." Slowly, she let her head
hang down.

Francis blinked her eyes. She began to shake her head, not wanting to
accept what she saw. Then her eye cought Mary. The young girl's
shoulders convulsed, her arms trembled as she kept a tight grip at the
console, then she wept like a child. After she had lost her mother so
many years ago, now she had lost the only link with her. She let go of
the console and burried her face in her hands.

Rick didn't move, his eyes were fixed on the screen. "This isn't
true..." He said flatly. "This isn't happening..." Tears rolled over
his face. "This can't be happening...!" He put a hand over his eyes.
He trembled over his whole body. He had just witnessed the death of
his wife, Lisa Hayes.

A lone Alpha raced to Tirol. "Sergeant Penn, return at once. This is
an or...." She switched the intercom to mute. Tears ran over her face.
"No. NO!" Trying hard to keep a steady hand, she steered her plane to
the last known position of the shuttle which Jack Baker piloted. She
only found twisted pieces of metal and a trail of smoke.

"This is commander Sterling. We've beaten the intruders. All planes,
return home. Repeat, all planes return home." Max stared out of the
cannopy. There was no emotion on his face. His lips were a thin line,
his eyes didn't move. He only blinked more often then usual.

Sussanna had taken Mary into her arms. In his seat, Rick's red eyes
were looking at nothing. Hands chucked under his chin, he sat
motionless. Patricia and Francis looked at each other. Julie opened
her mouth, but she didn't get further then "I...." She bit her
lowerlip, not wanting to let tears form.

The bridge door opened and Miriya entered. She went straight to Rick.
"Oh Rick, I'm...I'm so sorry... I.. If there's anything I can do..."
She took his face and Rick put his arms around her. "Come, I'll take
you somewhere quiet." Miriya spoke softly. Turning to the bridge.
"I've called for Colonel Reinhardt to replace General Hunter."

A broken man sat next to the former Zentraedi figher-ace. Holding a
glass of water, Rick stared at the table. Time and time again, he
imagined the exploding shuttle, saw Lisa's face. Standing in the
dooropening, Max wondered wether or not he would enter. Miriya took
her hand from Rick's shoulder. "You try and talk to him, Max." She
gave Rick a look. "He hasn't said a word for fifteen minutes." Max
gave a nod. As he sat next to his friend, he couldn't find the words.
He just let out a deep sigh, and patted Rick on his back. Silent, they
sat next to each other. Remembering the adventures the two had lived
through together with Lisa.
