‘X-Files’ Kiss
For those of you who’ve been dying to see Scully and Mulder finally kiss… without the suggestions that it’s a fantasy or that one of them is not really one of them, then you’ll like what’s said to be coming in the possibly final season of The X-Files. According to TV Guide, the first real kiss between the two will finally happen on the episode scheduled to air November 28th. The magazine also reports that that same episode will also see the return of Lance Henriksen in the dour role of Frank Black, late of the canceled Millennium TV serie.

Carter Talks ‘X-Files’ Finish
Chris Carter is talking once again about what we can expect from the seventh season of The X-Files as well as his feelings about the abrupt cancellation of his Harsh Realm series.

While talking to the LA Times, the X-Files creator and exec producer revealed that he would still like to see the series continue, though he does cite that perhaps the only way to do so would be if both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were on board. As far as the seventh season is concerned, Carter let out that the finish of the sixth season cliffhanger "reinvests and redefines Mulder with a new spirit in his quest." Furthermore, suggested by recent rumors that Scully and Mulder will finally have that long awaited kiss, Carter also revealed that the personal relationships and subsequent romantic tension between the series' two leads will also be explored throughout the season. Carter says, "And there are a lot of great stories left to tell."

Realistically though, Carter is said to be moving the series towards its conclusion, saying, "As always, I want to tell good stories, scare people, leaven it with some funny episodes, expand and possibly wind down the X-Files mythology." Among the pack will be previously reported kiss and the return of Millennium’s Frank Black played by Lance Henriksen, which may well be a New Year’s Eve themed episode Carter mentions that finds Scully and Mulder and "in a position that men and women find themselves in at midnight." Regarding Frank Black, Carter says, "We're going to wrap him up in a way we weren't able to do with the series."

Having said all that, Carter also revealed that it wasn’t until series co-executive producer reminded him that the series might actually end this year that the reality of the situation actually set in. Carter explains, ""I was all excited by an idea, and after I told Frank, he said, 'We may be telling our last few stories here. ' If this indeed is our last season, there are a lot of things that we have to do. I have some big ideas."

Still, in spite of this upbeat attitude about the final (?) season ahead, there are potential stormclouds on the horizon. Carter revealed to the paper that Fox studio chief Sandy Grushow had approached him about the possibility of another season of Fox’s most successful TV series. On the other hand, there’s Fox Entertainment prez Doug Herzog, who Carter publicly lashed out at after the abrupt cancellation of Harsh Realm. Herzog is reported to not have sought out Carter regarding X-Files, with the producer maintaining that he’s "not a fan of the show"… something which Herzog refused to comment on to the paper.

Perhaps even worse is Carter’s comment on who ultimately controls the series’ fate, since Fox actually owns the show. Carter says, "I don't know what their plans are, [b]ut it's their show. They can put it on without any of the principals being involved." Carter adds, "I really don't know how the Harsh Realm situation will affect The X-Files, but it hasn't created any greater desire for me to work harder to create a TV series for a network that is unwilling to promote it and unwilling to take a chance."

Carter Talks 'X' Future/End
The upcoming seventh season of The X-Files may or may not mark the end of the show's award-winning run, but just in case the end is truly near, creator Chris Carter is making sure that everything is tied up just right. "As I'm doing the series, I'm looking at these next 22 episodes of The X-Files to be the last," Carter informed the crowd at the annual TV critics tour in Pasadena, according to Ultimate TV. Still, an eighth season sans Duchovny is not entirely out of the question. "I'd consider anything, but I would have to feel good about the kind of stories we were telling," Carter said according to Sci-Fi Wire.

FWIW, the Insider is of the opinion that the classic series should follow the lead of Michael Jordan and John Elway (or Seinfeld if you can't process the sports references) by going out on top, while also making an appearance on the big screen every few years a la Star Trek: The Next Generation. Based on early numbers from the reader poll on our main page, it looks like many of you feel the same way. Regardless of what happens next, it's been quite a run.

Duchovny: "Other Things To Do"
We’ve heard previously that David Duchovny is planning on leaving The X-Files after his contract expires at the end of season 7. Now, Duchovny is confirming it, and it doesn’t sound like he’s prepared to change his mind on the matter.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, the actor confirmed many of the fears of his X-Files fans saying that he plans to move on. Duchovny explains, "Seven years is a long time to do one show, and I have other things to do."

One of the points that Duchovny makes about the series that he’s particularly tired of is the seeming obsession for details regarding the program's mythology. He says, "All these things that I'm sure you're just as sick of writing as we are of reading it." Duchovny adds, "I think you know that at its heart, at its base, at its core, it was just a f------ good show."

Duchovny also feels that the show could function without him, saying, "People love it. They understand it. Therefore, even if I was indispensable at one point, I'm no longer indispensable. Nobody is indispensable. It's a brand name. It's Crest. It's something like that. It's Menudo."

Okay, that sounds a little too cynical, but it also sounds as if Duchovny isn’t as sure of how confident he would be if the show did carry on saying, "I feel really proprietary about the character. There would be part of me that would be sitting at home wishing thoroughly that it would fail. I feel like it's mine."

On the other hand, Gillian Anderson is signed up through a potential eight season, though the series creator Chris Carter sounds as if that’s not likely. Carter told the paper, "I'd consider anything but I would have to feel good about the kind of stories we were telling. If it didn't feel right to me and it was just being done as sort of a commercial venture, I would be less interested."

Anderson Site Offers a Day on the X-Files Set
Saturday, April 24, 1999

Feel like being charitable and spending a day on the set of The X-Files at the same time? Then head on over to The Official Gillian Anderson Web Site.

The site is holding its third annual auction of Anderson- and X-Files-related items to benefit Neurofibromatosis, Inc. (NF), an organization that provides support for the families of those suffering from the genetic disorder, which causes tumors to form throughout the nervous system.

"Last year we only had 184 items and we raised $24,000," Anderson site webmaster Cynthia Schmidt tells Dish. "This year I have close to 500 and we hope to raise about $40,000."

The day on the set is the premier offering, even though bidding for it starts at the same $5 mark set for all unsigned items. There's also a commemorative director's slate from this Sunday's David Duchovny-directed episode of the show, "The Unnatural," which is autographed by the stars and show creator Chris Carter and bears a $3,000 minimum price. In addition, visitors to the site will find various signed and unsigned magazines, posters, shirts, scripts and other show memorabilia.

Handling the Anderson site duties is a dream come true for Schmidt, who maintained it in her spare time before working on the NF site brought her in contact with Anderson's mom (Anderson's brother suffers from the disorder). "[S]lowly over time [Anderson] got more comfortable with it and said we could be the official site," Schmidt explains. "It freaks me out that I'm even doing this because it was just a fan site and a hobby."

Bidding begins 8 am/ET May 1. — Michael Peck

Mimi Rogers Will Return to The X-Files
When Mimi Rogers first appeared as Mulder's ex-flame on The X-Files last season, many a fan suspected something big was in the works. Well, hold on to your conspiracy theories, because Rogers' mysterious Agent Diana Fowley is coming back.
The actress tells Dish she'll return for the show's upcoming two-parter, which kicks off Sun., Feb. 7 on Fox (9 pm/ET). What can she reveal about the episodes? "Not much," she says with a laugh. "I still don't know if I'm a good guy or a bad guy."

In addition to being a big fan of the show, Rogers is a pal of a certain X-Files VIP. "David Duchovny and I have been friends for a long time, since we did The Rapture together," she says. "He had always said, 'If something interesting came up, would you do it?' And I said, 'Sure.' So he and Chris [Carter, the show's creator] called and they optioned me for this character."

It seems we won't see the last of Fowley in February: "I'm sure I'll probably do another few episodes by the end of the season," says Rogers. Watch your back, Scully.

New X-Files Movie
According to Rob Bowman the second X-Files movie probably won't be
filmed next Summer. It is too much to do a series and a feature film at the
same time. He says to look for the next film after the series has ended,
probably in 2-1/2 to 3 years.

This comes after Chris Carter confirmed that there will be a sequel to this
year's X-Files movie. Chris Carter thought about shooting the movie next
summer and releasing it in the summer of 2000, when the seventh (and last)
season will be finished. "I realize it's a Herculean task to do it in that time
frame," Carter says. "But we're going to try."

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will appear in the movie.

David Duchovny: 2 Big Projects on the way
David Duchovny has a busy shedule ahead: He's not only planning to write
and direct his own X-Files episode (with a baseball theme), but David and
his wife Tea Leoni are also expecting their very first baby. Congratulations!

Chris Carter signs major deal with Fox TV
"The X-Files" creator Chris Carter has signed a production deal with 20th
Century Fox TV, which sources said was worth $25-$30 million over five
years.

The exclusive pact includes a first-look feature component and calls for him
to develop at least one new series for Fox Broadcasting Co. next fall. He will
remain as executive producer of "The X-Files" for at least two more seasons
and "Millennium" for at least one more, while he develops new projects for
Fox under his Ten Thirteen Prods. banner.

Carter's next series for fall 1999 is likely to be a sci-fi drama based on a
comic book called "Harsh Realm", which Carter is expected to write and
Dan Sackheim ("The X-Files") will direct, Carter said.

Fox would actually like Carter to develop a second new drama for next fall,
if he has the time, but Carter called that wishful thinking. "'There are other
things I want to do,' he said. 'But it’s really about the workload and not
forsaking the shows that are already dear to me.'

Emmy Awards 1998
On September 13th, the anual Emmy Awards took place, but The X-Files
didn't win any major awards. At least it got 2 Creative Arts Emmy Awards:

Art Direction The X-Files • The Post-Modern Prometheus • FOX • Ten
Thirteen Productions Single Camera Editing The X-Files • Kill Switch •
FOX • Ten Thirteen Productions

prime-time Saturday sighting of an SF drama. (Source: BBC Ceefax)

The X-Files move to LA
The X-Files have moved to Los Angeles this season. Chris Carter has
looked at the possibility of moving for a long time, but at the end he decided
to give his 2 stars, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the chance to
return home after working 5 series(years) on the x-files set in Vancouver,
Canada. David Duchovny said last year that he would quit the show if he had
to spent another year away from his wife Tea Leoni, who is working on the
set of the American sitcom "The Naked Thruth" in LA.

This move will certainly make each edition more expensive, but Fox can
afford it: The X-Files is one of Fox' big money makers... Another
consequence is the departure of some Canadian crew members (including
some Emmy Award winners)

Official statement from Twentieth Century Fox Television:

After five seasons of producing The X-Files in Vancouver,
Twentieth Century Fox Television has reached a decision to
move series production to Southern California beginning with
the show's sixth season.

Vancouver has been home to The X-Files for five years, and
the support of the city and the superlative work of the film
community have been invaluable to the show's incredible
success. The X-Files' critical acclaim, enormous popularity and
countless awards are nothing less than a testament to the city
and its production community.

Our decision was not an easy one, but after five years of
dividing the show's writing, production and post-production
between Los Angeles and Vancouver, we as a studio chose to
unite the three elements in Southern California.
