The Ranger's History

Five hundred years ago I encountered powerful evil, it was then that I realized that I needed rangers to watch the world for me since I couldn't be everywhere at the same time. They would watch in secret and inform me of an amassing of evil.

I met an old man called Tosh, and he helped me form the rangers. His skill with the staff was unparalleled. He first tough me how to wield it and then together we taught the first of my rangers.

After a few years of training and fighting, Tosh and I found that the staffs we were using couldn't hold up to the intense fights we put then through. So we decided to create a new type of staff. We designed the new staff out of an indestructible alloy and formed it with magic. In it's compact state it's about three inches long and an inch and a half in diameter. It expands to full size and back in a blink of an eye. They are a metallic gray in colour and smooth to the touch.

During the time when we were designing the new ‚staff we needed to train the rangers in hand-to-hand combat in case their staff broke while in the middle of a battle. We brought in an expert in all forms of hand-to-hand combat. He had no name, but he preferred to be called Shadow. We spent three months in intense training and Shadow taught them well. All he wanted in payment was a favour he could call in at the time of his choosing.

When I thought the rangers were skilled enough I left them in the command of Tosh and gave them their instructions. I set out to travel the land again. For fifty years I traveled and fought, until i came across a young immortal named NightAngel. He was only fifteen at the time and already had developed an attitude. He attacked me at first, but I floored him quite easily. I found he had a natural talent for battle so I took it upon myself to begin his training as a ranger, at his request of course. I feared that he had an ulterior motive in his training so i watched him closely. After a few months I decided it would be better to send him back to the Agronus Citadel to continue his training with Tosh.

When Tosh died, I was informed that NightAngel had ran away and stolen The Blade of Kol'oth. The Rangers went looking for NightAngel to retrieve the sword and bring him to justice. About one and a half years later I found Night in a tavern on the boarder of Zan'kree. I confronted him and we ended up fighting each other. We fought for what seemed like hours but was really only thirty minutes. The soldiers of Zan'kree were informed of the disturbance and came to investigate. They found us fighting and tried to break it up but one of them recognized me and sounded an alarm. So we started to fight the soldiers instead of each other but we were quickly overwhelmed. The only way we could get out is if I used my powers, so I transformed into MoonDragon and blasted my way out.

For his betrayal of the rangers and of me, I imprisoned NightAngel in an under-water sphere for one hundred years. When the time came to release him the Ranger Council decided to give him a chance to join the rangers again, with one warning. If he ever betrays us again he would be imprisoned in the sphere again or killed, depending on the magnitude of the betrayal.

One hundred years ago the commander of the rangers was killed in a battle with my family's army. I had to appoint a new commander. I pondered the question for weeks but I finally decided upon NightAngel. I still had my doubts about him so I put him on a trial run as commander. After years on the trial run I was confident that he could perform the duties set forth by the council and I promoted him to full commander.

After just over five hundred years of service, the island was turned over to the Rangers to use as their base. They control the citadel and everything else on the island. Azrael himself moved away from the island but returns on occation to check on their progress.
