Jasper Thomas Scott
Jasper Thomas Scott was born in Madaline, Missouri on January 30, 1907. He was the second child of seven and the firstborn son. He lived on a farm where he had many responsibilities as the oldest boy. He recalled doing a man's job as a boy, but he also remembered many good times with his brothers and sisters. He was especially close to Paul, the brother who was almost exactly two years younger than him. He only completed school up through the third grade; after that he had to stay home and help his parents. He married Viola Delila Baxter, my great-grandmother, on October 23, 1926 in Port Orchard, Washington. They were married for sixty-nine years and had six sons, two of whom died in infancy. Their other four sons are all still living. Derald, the oldest, is very ill with cancer. Beldon, my grandfather, lives in Virginia. He loves to fly and once built his own runway. Glyndon flies his own private airplane. Leo is the only one who doesn't enjoy flying. My dad has his Private Pilot License, and I have a goal to get mine as soon as I can.

Grandpa Scott was a commanding figure, standing 6'4" and weighing well over two hundred pounds. But even though he was a big man, he was good, kind, and gentle. He was a hard worker, raising a huge garden every year even up to the day he died. He was a giving person, always sharing the surplus of his garden with others. He was a devout member of the Church of Christ, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served a five-year mission for the church in the Philippines. He loved children, and they loved him. He died from influenza on June 12, 1995.
