The Second Mixed Assault Group: Adventure 2

Background: Information:

Two weeks have passed since your retreat from Epsilon 4. You have spent the time in training and debriefings. The intelligence officers were very interested in your accounts of your fight with the new enforcer.

However, it ends up that the most important information you brought back was in the retrieved data banks from the base. It is discovered that a previous long-range scan had picked up signs of an inhabited planet near Epsilon 4.

After nearly a week of discussion it is decided that an envoy should be sent to make contact with this civilization. The Second M.A.G. is assigned the duty of escorting the envoy to the newly discovered planet. They will be transported in the Pegasus to the planet.

Background: Situation:

Unknown to the REF, the Invid have already discovered the planet and are planning their own greeting mission. Once again, `Griar’ is leading the assault on the planet.

The planet, Lylena, is inhabited by a forgotten branch of the Tiresian race (distant cousins of the Robotech Masters). Even though they lack the use and knowledge of Protoculture and Robotech, the Lylenians have been able to construct their own mecha and spaceships. An amazing coincidence is that their mecha and spaceships closely resemble the new Zentraedi Battlepods and Cyclops. Even though the capabilities are nearly the same, the Lylenian craft are powered by fusion generators.

The Pegasus arrives in-system just as the attack is initiated.

The Pegasus Troops consists of:

Second M.A.G.:

2-10 Alphas
2-10 Betas
1-10 Destroids
0-10 AJACS II

0-5 V.H.T.s
0-10 Logans
0-20 Cyclones
0-10 Super Veritechs

Pegasus Mecha:
4 M.A.C. III's
36 Destroids
7 Lancer Space Fighters

The Invid Assault Force consists of:
1 Enhanced Enforcer `Griar'

Three Clamships consisting of:
1 carries only Shock Troopers (200).
1 carries only Armored Scouts (250).
The last carries 100 Armored Scouts, 70 Shock Troopers, 20 Crann,
50 Scrim, 80 Cougars, and `Griar'.

The Lylenian Defense Force consists of:
300 Lylenian Battlepods
50 Lylenian Officer Pods
15 Lylenian Unicrom Defense Cruisers
350 Lylenian Hovercycles

The Adventure:

The Background: Information should be read to the group, the rest is only for the GM to know.

To the Adventurers:

As the ship comes out of Fold-Space the red alert alarms go off. When you arrive on the bridge, you see that there are three Clamships in orbit around the planet. As the Pegasus gets closer, two of the ships open up and begin to launch mecha. The third enters the atmosphere. You also see hundreds of mecha rising out of the atmosphere to attack the Invid.

The captain turns to you and says "We're going to have to help them out. They're seriously out-numbered, and that third clam is going to land on the planet. You guys help out here. I'm taking the Pegasus through the battle and land on the planet. Get to your fighters and launch."

After you launch, the Pegasus cuts a path through the Invid mecha. Something you notice about the defenders is that their mecha closely resembles the new Zentraedi Mecha. After that you have no more time for observations as you enter combat.

To the GM: Space Battle:

The Lylenians are vastly outnumbered by an experienced opponent. Every three rounds 20 Battlepods, 1 Officer Pod, 1 Unicrom Cruiser, 15 Armored Scouts, and 10 Shock Troopers are destroyed. And that is just considering the invid ships in space. The third clamship will unleash its troops on the ground.

The Pegasus will destroy 30 Shock Troopers going in, that will leave approximately 80 Troopers for the group to destroy. Any number over 80 destroyed will allow the Lylenians to have some survivors. While combat is occurring keep strict track of how much time has passed. One way or another space combat will end after 45 rounds (45 minutes), with either the Invid or the Lylenians surviving.

If the group succeeds in destroying all 80 Shock Troopers within 30 rounds they can leave the combat and help out on the ground. (In fact they are ordered to by the Pegasus captain.)

If not, they are to stay until the end and go to the surface with the surviving Lylenian forces.

Ground War:

The ground battle is another matter entirely. The Lylenians outnumber the Invid, but don't have experience in fighting the Invid. The Armored Scouts and Shock Troopers strafe the hovercyclists while the Crann, Scrim, and Cougars attack them on the ground. Depending when the group arrives, they will face one of two situations:

Situation One (Arriving within 30 rounds):

After you enter the atmosphere, you arrive over a large battle field. Hundreds of hovercycles are burning in large heaps all over the field. Amid the wrecks are dozens of Cougars and Armored Scouts. The few remaining hovercycles are retreating to city, where flames already rage. The Pegasus rests outside of the city, its guns picking off individual Invid. You see that inside the city several Battlepods and the Destroids are combining firepower to destroy several Invid at a time.

You are ordered to help in the defense of the city.

20 Armored Scouts and 10 Shock Troopers peal off to attack the group. Every three rounds 3 additional Scouts and 1 additional Troopers join into the fight, up to a maximum of 12 Scouts and 4 Troopers. When the group finishes with these they can either return to the ship for a quick reload, or continue fighting.

When they rejoin the fight they face 5 Crann, 10 Scrim, and 25 Cougars. Every five rounds 2 Scrim, 5 Cougars, and 4 Shock Troopers join the fight, up to a maximum of 10 Scrim, 20 Cougars, and 18 Shock Troopers.

Situation Two (Arriving after 30 rounds):

After you enter the atmosphere, you arrive over a large battle field. Hundreds of hovercycles are burning in heaps all over the field. Amid the wrecks are dozens of Cougars and Armored Scouts. You see battle raging in the streets of the burning city, where speeding hovercycles blast at Cougars and Scrim. The Pegasus rests outside of the city, its blazing guns picking off Invid by the handful. Inside the city you see a handful of Battlepods and the remaining Destroids put up a ragged wall of firepower.

You are immediately ordered to help hold off the Scouts and Troopers.

25 Armored Scouts and 15 Shock Troopers peal off to attack the group. Every three rounds 5 additional Scouts and 2 additional Troopers join into the fight, up to a maximum of 20 Scouts and 8 Troopers. When the group finishes with these they can either return to the ship for a quick reload, or continue fighting.

When they rejoin the fight they face 5 Crann, 10 Scrim, and 30 Cougars. Every five rounds 4 Scrim, 5 Cougars, and 5 Shock Troopers join the fight, up to a maximum of 20 Scrim, 25 Cougars, and 22 Shock Troopers.

It is in the group’s best interest that they arrive within 30 rounds.

Conclusion:

In either situation, Griar arrives at the second battle in order to fight the leader of the group. He will fight until only 40 M.D.C. remains. At this point he will retreat to his clamship. If it is destroyed, or he can't get to it, Griar will fight to the death. If Griar is destroyed he will yell out, in English, "Curse you humans! May Shishrar destroy your rotting skins!"

Either way, with the destruction of Griar, or his escape, the adventurers' part ends here.

Read to the group:

After a week of repairs and recovery, the Leader's Council of Lylenia is reconviened. The ambassador from the Pegasus arrives at the meeting and begins negotiations with the Lylenians. To everyone's surprise, they report that they cannot sign binding agreements with outside powers because they are only a colony of the Lylosian Empire, which is based out of Lylos. They tell the ambassador to go to Lylos to make a treaty.

It looks like you will be going to Lylos.
