As your ship is being drawn into the Robotech Factory, you get
a message from your captors. "Upon docking, your ship commanders are ordered to
disembark and follow an escort to meet our commander. You are to leave all Mecha
and weaponry aboard your ship. Anyone disobeying this will be atomized. That is
all."
After that the captain turns to you and says, "Maybe you aren't
familiar with Zatar's name. Well ...."
Recount the first paragraph of Zatar's biography. Remember to
use the past tense.
After that, add, "When our fleet arrived here, a search for him
was at the top of our lists. We never saw or heard word of him in our searches.
We had assumed the Invid had wiped him out. I guess we were wrong."
If the group has any other questions, the captain responds that
that is all he knows.
After about fifteen minutes, your ship is attached to the
docking bay. An airtube is extended and latched onto your main airlock. Over the
radio you get the message, "Disembark from the ship now."
The group is strongly encouraged to comply with the demands.
(Note: They are allowed to wear CVR-3.)
After you leave the ship, you are led down several side
corridors until you enter a large holding bay. By the time you realize that you
have entered a shuttle craft, the shuttle has already left the bay. After
re-entry and landing, you are led onto the landing area. Waiting for you are 20
battlepods. You are then escorted to a large building. From there you are led
into a conference room.
Inside
the room is Zatar, a Female Officer, and three other male Zentraedi. Zatar
speaks:
"If you wish to continue your existence, you will follow my
orders exactly. We have discovered that after having conquered several Robotech
Masters' planets, the Invid consolidated their spoils onto several different
planets. [A holopicture of a planet forms on the table.] This planet, Hacri-2,
is where the Invid have deposited something we are very interested in. They have
two research hives on the northern-most continent. The main hive is located 500
miles due south of them. Our interest is in the research hives. You will act as
decoys and attack the main hive. You don't have to destroy it, just draw their
forces into attacking you. While you do that, we will capture the research hive.
"Now we know 'heroes' such as yourselves wouldn't help us to
save your own lives. So we have added an incentive. [A communications screen
appears. A face appears on the screen.] Commander Rins commands the scout ship
Nirac in orbit around Lylenia. If you decide to betray me, Rins has
orders to fire on the Lylenians' cities; incinerating them all. So, as long as
you are good little Micronians, the Lylenians will live. A cruiser will fold you
to your fold point, from there you will fold to Hacri-2. If you survive your
fight, I will let you go. Good Bye."
You are then led back to your ship.
After you return to your ship, you are towed out of the Factory
by a Command Ship. When it is far enough from the Factory, the Command Ship
begins a series of fold jumps. After about a day, you come out of Foldspace in
another solar system. While the navigation computers realign themselves, you
recieve a transmission from the Command Ship. The transmission consists of fold
coordinates to Hacri-2.
When the transmission is over, the Captain inspects the
coordinates. He turns to you and says, "We might have some luck after all. The
time it would take us to get from here to Hacri-2 is almost the same amount of
time it would take us to get to Lylenia."
Give the group time to digest this. Unless someone guesses the
intention here, continue with this speech. [Note: If someone does guess, give
them some extra experience points.]
We have two options. We can attack that Invid Hive and let
Zatar get whatever he is looking for, then hope he keeps his promise. Or, we can
fold to Lylenia and attack that scout ship. They wouldn't be able to communicate
with Zatar because he will already be in foldspace. Either option, we will be
severely outnumbered and outgunned. The choice is yours."
Option 1: Attack on Hacri-2
Pegasus Forces:
Same as Above.
Invid Forces:
Invid Main Hive
1500 Armored Scouts | 1000 Scouts |
750 Shock Troopers | 500 Troopers |
150 Enforcers | 30 Red Enforcers |
Invid Research Hives (3)
200 Armored Scouts each
150 Shock Troopers each
30 Enforcers each
15 Red Enforcers each
Invid Space Force
4 Scorpions
12 Clamships
Zentraedi Forces:
Zatar's Command Ship (Nupetiet-Vernitzs)
55 Destroyers (Thuverl Salan)
10 Landing Ships (Quiltra Queleual)
2 Command Ships (Queadol-Magdomilla)
Melikai's Command Ship
20 Female Destroyers
2 Female Landing Ships
Situation:
This part is for those groups that decide to not chance it, and
go ahead and attack the Invid planet.
To the Adventurers:
After deciding to go ahead and attack the invid planet, you
prepare for combat. When the ship comes out of fold, you recieve orders to
launch and attack. As your fighters streak into the atmosphere, you see swarms
of Invid launch towards you. As you engage, you see the Pegasus streak
past you, land on the ground, and disembark the destroids.
The first invid wave consists of 500 A. Scouts, 250 Shock
Troopers, and 50 Enforcers. The second wave will arrive in two minutes (8
rounds). This may seem like a lot except when you add in the destroids and the
Pegasus. The destroids, as a whole, destroy 50 Invid per round, while the
Pegasus destroys 40 per round. This will leave the group with 100 Invid
they have to destroy (60 A. Scouts, 30 Shock Troopers, 10 Enforcers).
If they survive the first wave, the second wave will quickly
arrive. The second wave will be the same as the first, but they notice
something.
As you engage the second wave of Invid, you notice that there
appears to be a third group coming from the north.
This group is from the northern hives. It consists of 100 A.
Scouts and 75 Shock Troopers. If they survive the second wave intact they will
engage these. After that they will have a 5 minute break before the third wave
comes. The third wave will consist of 250 A. Scouts, 600 Scouts, 150 Shock Troopers, 300
Troopers, 25 Enforcers, and 15 Red Enforcers.
If at any time the group is about to be overwhelmed, then this
happens:
As the Invid start to overwhelm you, one by one, you see a
flash of light high in the sky. You see dozens of Zentraedi ships come out of
foldspace. Most are hundreds of miles away, but a couple approach you. When they
are a couple of miles away, they begin launching mecha. As the Invid and
Zentraedi engage, you realize that your saviors are in female power armor.
After that the group will have plenty of time to regroup and
rearm in the Pegasus.
As the Female Zentraedi raze the main hive, the Pegasus
lifts off and moves north. As you get closer to the northern hives, you
recognize Zatar's Flagship hanging over the hives. Hundreds of Invid and
Zentraedi battle on the ground and in the air. Meanwhile, you see several groups
of Zentraedi bringing what look like cloning chambers from out of the hives.
Side Note: In case you don't realize this yet, Zatar isn't
exactly one of the most trustworthy of opponents. He has no intention of letting
the group live.
As your ship gets closer, you get a message from Zatar. "Thanks
for your help. I now have the cloning chambers I need to rebuild my army. I will
keep my end of the bargain and not destroy the Lylenians. Now, you may . . .
DIE! Hah-hah-hah-hah!!!" As he says this, the flagship opens fire on you.
Despite the huge volume of fire coming down on you, the Pegasus only
suffers minor hits. With expert handling, and a lot of luck, the Pegasus manages to get around the flagship and rockets
towards the outer atmostphere. As the ship enters space you see that there is
still a huge battle raging there.
Using the fight as cover, the Pegasus races to enter some clear space so
that it can go to fold. Just as the fold drives are activating, two Zentraedi
Destroyers break clear from the fight and unleash a devastating bombardment.
Even as the ship enters foldspace, explosions rip through the hull, tossing
crewmembers into walls and causing untold amounts of damage.
When you wake up minutes later, you see that the ship is
drifting towards Lylenia. Approaching you are 15 Unicrom Defense Cruisers. After
a couple of minutes, they take you into tow and tow you into orbit around the
planet.
Conclusion 1:
A couple of hours later you recieve the bad news from the
captain. "The first couple of hits we sustain were relatively minor compaired to
what that bombardment did to us. The hits those destoyers made have damaged the
main drives and crippled the fold system. They can be repaired, but we don't
have the replacement parts. We are effectively stuck here until we can get
them.
"The only good news we have recieved is from the ambassador we
left here. I know you noticed the 15 Unicrom Defense Cruisers. Well, it ends up
that the Lylenians have some huge shipyards on the other side of the planet. The
only reason they didn't have a larger fleet ready to face the Invid was because
they thought they had made a deal with them. Because of this false sense of
security, they didn't bother making any more Defense Cruisers. They are quite
willing to lend us ships so that we can recover the Stallion and use it
to repair the Pegasus."
Option 2: Attacking the Scout Ship
Pegasus Forces:
Same as Above.
Zentraedi Forces:
Salan Scout Ship Nirac
Note: The Nirac is in peak physical condition, however,
it has about a quarter of the crew of a normal Scout Ship. Basically, 100 crew
and 350 combat soldiers.
Situation:
This is for those groups who decide not to trust Zatar, and try
to destroy his Scout Ship instead.
To the Adventurers:
After you decide to attack the Scout Ship, the captain
discusses the battle plan with you. Basically, when the ship comes out of fold,
it will open fire on the scout and hope it can knock out the main cannon with
the first blast. If they do, the Pegasus will turn around and launch them
to combat the battlepods. If they don't, everybody will concentrate their fire
on the nose of the ship and destroy the main cannon.
As the ship comes out of fold, you see the Nirac
directly ahead of you. The Pegasus opens fire with all guns and missile
bays. In a flash of light, the extreme forward tip of the scout separates from
the rest of the ship.
The Captain yells at you, "GO! Launch! We'll handle this, you
take care of those battlepods." As you launch, you see hundreds of battlepods
launch from the Nirac. As you engage, you see the Nirac and
Pegasus begin bombarding each other.
The group is engaged by a total of 200 Tactical Battlepods, 100
Light Artillery Pods, and 50 Heavy Artillery Pods. The first group consists of
100 Tactical, 50 Light Artillery, and 25 Heavy Artillery Pods. The second group
will arrive in 20 rounds (five minutes), and it will consist of the rest of the
pods.
If the group starts getting beat, then read this:
As you start to get overwhelmed by the Zentraedi's overwhelming
numbers, you see 15 Unicrom Defense Cruisers enter orbit. When their cargo doors
open, Lylenian battlepods pour out and begin attacking the Zentraedi battlepods.
Between your combined firepower, the Zentraedi go down in flames.
Either way, when the mecha combat is over, read this:
As your attention shifts to the Nirac-Pegasus battle you
see a frightful sight. Lasers lash out between the two cruisers. In a flash of
light you see the bridge area of the Nirac disintegrate from the combined
hits of the main lasers and 5 missiles. At the same time lasers from the
Nirac pound into the forward and rear areas of the ship. Explosions blow
from the rear of the ship. The Pegasus keels over, and begins to drift.
At the same time, the Unicrom Defense Cruisers open fire on the Nirac.
After a minute or two you recieve a weak signal of surrender from the
Nirac.
The two drifting cruisers are towed into orbit around Lylenia,
and evaluations are begun.
Conclusion 2:
A couple of hours later you meet with the captain. He briefs
you on the damage done to the Pegasus. "It looks like we weren't quite a
match for that scout ship. We got the job done, but it was at a great cost. The
main drives are damaged, and the fold engines are out. They can be repaired, but
the only replacement parts are back on Tyrol, or in orbit around Lylos in the
Stallion.
"The reason the Nirac surrendered to us was because most
of the crew was killed when the bridge was destroyed. It ends up that most of
Zatar's fleet is operating at less than 50% crews. Most of the crew on the
Nirac was operating in or around the bridge area when it blew. The
remaining crew surrendered to us.
"The only good news I can report comes from the ambassador we
left here. I know you noticed the 15 Unicrom Cruisers. Well, it ends up that the
Lylenians have huge shipyards on the other side of the planet. The only reason
they didn't have a larger fleet ready to fight the Invid was because they
thought they had made a deal with the Invid. Because of this false sense of
security, they didn't bother making more Unicrom Cruisers than they already
had.
"The Lylenians have agreed to refit the Nirac to human
size. When they are finished, we're going to use that to recover the
Stallion from Lylos. After
that, we will have to revisit Ceti Helios III to see what exactly the Invid had
that was so important to Zatar."
