Rifts characters usually pilot heavily armed and armored vehicles, but what are they supposed to do in the city? Nope, can't take that Naruni Juggernaut Hover-Tank down main street. Most of the more intelligent cities won't allow vehicles that are either too big, noisy, or heavily armed entrance to the city. This also goes for power armor, and robot vehicles. So, here is a listing of common vehicles and their quick stats, this is what I use for normal city vehicles, and even some country ones. There are also some hover sports cars with art by Mr. Richards himself.
Note: Most of the vehicle types came out of the back of Heroes Unlimited,
with equivalent light MDC materials taken into place for their damage capacity.
These vehicles are designed to withstand light MD, instead of being
modified into MDC vehicles.
All of these vehicles are commonly available in all civilized places of Rifts earth. They are manufactured by the Coalition, Triax, Northern Gun, Golden Age Weapon Smiths, Wellington Industries, Iron Heart Armaments, as well as various independent city-states/kingdoms. The differences between manufactures are much the same as today, different vehicles have different quirks and qualities according to their maker. For example, the Coalition and Triax vehicles are usually of the highest quality, cost a little more, and will hardly *ever* break down under normal conditions. Chipwell vehicles however are more equivalent to the Toyotas and Mazdas of today. They are of a lesser quality, and generally are not as nice as their expensive counterparts (this is not to say they are more prone to breaking down, I know of a Mazda with over 200,000 miles on it!). The vehicles styles also vary according to their maker; The Coalition vehicles' have that "slick" look to them, Northern Gun's are boxy, Triax's are European-looking, you get the idea.

15 MDC, 420 mph max, 500 mile range, seats 1, price: 200,000 credits.
This is a super fast motorcycle made for road racing. It is powered by a surplus jet helicopter turbine engine. While it handles like any other motorcycle at low speeds (under 120 mph), it becomes increasing difficult (-15% skill check) to pilot at higher speeds. The Y2K+ is made for road driving, and suffers an additional -15% skill penalty when trying to drive it off-road. Also available fusion powered for 500,000 credits.
SuperSport Motorcycle
20 MDC, Tires 2 MDC each (2), 225 mph, 300 mile range, price: 11,000cr.
This is a super fast, super manueverable motorcycle made for road racing. The advanced handling and unique balance of this bike makes it very difficult for the novice driver (-15% skill check) to control this bike. However, it does offer a +5 to dodge rolls. The SuperSport is made for road driving, and suffers an additional -15% skill penalty when trying to drive it off-road.
The above vehicles all either run on gasoline or electric, as it's not worth while to have a fusion power source. Also, these are city vehicles, they aren't made for off-road uses, are not environmental, and don't have any sensors or short range transmitting radios. Made to withstand the normal rigors of city life, these vehicles are not built to take a drawn out fire-fight or to leap across 40ft gorges. They are just the normal man's transportation, you know, the kind you'd see a common citizen driving down the street. While they are able to withstand some of the rigors of the wilderness, they generally aren't used out of the city. However, some of the vehicles may be modified for off road use, they are certainly cheaper than hovercraft!
Hover vehicles usually cost around 4 to 5 times the amount of a normal vehicle their size. Vastly more maneuverable and able to cross nearly any type of terrain, they make the perfect vehicles in the roadless wilderness, but in the city they are basically faster equivalents to their ground-based cousins. The following vehicles are not classed under "military" because that was not their original purpose, however some may be given weapons systems and be used as such, it's just it is not usually recommended with most models (except maybe NG) because they are usually more lightly armed and armored than their military equivalents.
Note:Large vehicles are easier to mount hover thrusters on, and are in comparison cheaper than the exteremly expensive (and maneuverable) hoverbikes. Just a thought, because a top of the line hoverbike can run around 200,000cr, while putting similar heavy thrusters on a larger frame is less-expensive. At least that's how I see it (hover vehicles cost A LOT anyway).
The Dodge Rocket was originally a production sports hover car by the Golden Age auto manufacturer, Dodge. Plans for the car's mass-production were mostly completed before the coming of the Rifts, and amazingly survived to be discovered and copied by a number of manufacturers around North America. Capable of accelerating to speeds around 150mph in under 6 seconds, the hover car boasts twin Shinobi 250 Turbine Jet Thrusters, and is one of the fastest ground-based hover craft known on earth.
Popular with those interested in style and speed more than armor and power, the Dodge Rocket has gained popularity in the urban centers of North America, including the Coalition states. It is one of the few vehicles used by wealthy Coalition citizens that isn't made by the coalition itself. A Coalition-allied corporation that acquired the plans from a black market bust has been given exclusive manufacturing rights. The Dodge Rocket is also manufactured by a few Black Market sectors, and Northern Gun is working on creating a similar vehicle to add to it's current utility hover vehicle line.
Vehicle Type: Jet Assisted HovercraftNote: The original company that designed the vehicle was Dodge, but since most Rifts' people know nothing of history, the car's name is thought to be the "Dodge Rocket" as Dodge isn't considered the manufacturer's separate name, but actually part of the name of the vehicle. Some of the original replicators of it know that the "Dodge" part is really the ancient company's name, but most people just think it's part of the name of the car.
While the original design of the Dodge Rocket was loved by many, there was also an outcry by some for an enhanced model with long range capabilities and greater maneuverability The SK9 was first built by the black market as a custom job for a bounty hunter who loved the design but needed long-range capabilities. After receiving his new vehicle, the bounty hunter used it quite a bit, and became famous for his unbeatable sports car. Thus, many customers began to ask for similar upgrades, and after a few months of this the Black market just decided to release a whole new model, the SK9.
The SK9 is outfitted with a few upgrades over the previous model. For one, the ancient design for the engines was replaced entirely with a single powerful turbine. Originally designed for a pre-rifts mini-orbital transport, the turbine was scaled down a bit, but still gives the little car amazing speed. To accommodate the engine's power requirements, and to solve the range problem, a standard nuclear power system was also installed.
A few minor adjustments were also made. The standard vehicle armor
was replaced with the same alloys used in MD fighters. This gave the little car enough armor to survive a little easier in the places it's nuke plant could take it. The other adjustment was an upgrade of the control system to a standard fighter jet setup. This allowed for maneuverability on the same level as a similar fighter jet, and greatly enhanced the SK9's combat abilities.

The BMW AV-7 is a highly advanced personal hovercraft powered by a single Rolls-Royce 2280 ducted turbojet. The BMW AV-7 utilizes the state of the art in computerized fly-by-wire flight control and automated navigation systems (includes both an autopilot and dedicated navigation system). Additionally, the BMW AV-7 is a hybrid -- not only can it fly (cruising at a respectable 250mph), it also has a concealed set of roadwheels, allowing the AV-7 to utilize the road for when the engines need to cool down. Unfortunately, the two control fins at the rear are relatively fragile -- a rear-end collision would severely damage their control surfaces. The AV-7 also includes passenger seating for 3 plus the pilot, as well as crash webbing for safety. Additionally, the BMW AV-7 has the best sensory and communications gear available in the civilian sector.
Model Type: BMW/Rolls Royce AV-7
The NG-Siren was designed as a sporty hovercar. Boasting a set of powerful duct fan engines, it's advanced control setup gives the pilot an advantage in maneuverability and reaction time. The vehicle also has rudimentary cyber-jacking capabilities (gives pilot an additional +5% to pilot hovercraft).
While designed for civilian use, the Sky Siren comes standard with two pop-up forward weapon mounts, it accepts normal energy rifles into a set of custom-control targeting systems. (Equivalent of making the rifles vehicle mounted and giving them +1 to strike). Included with the package is a HUD system display, 10 mile radar, and laser-targeting.
