Life in the ARMOR City-States

Life in the Orgs: The three principle ARMOR cities are designed on the same model. They are almost exactly square, surrounded by an inward sloping 150 foot tall steel, concrete, and MDC material wall. At their tips, the walls are 40 feet wide, at the base, more than 100. While there are some original buildings from when the cities were mainly human, the majority of the buildings are built in the ancient ziggurat style of the Martian Orgs. While there are smaller ziggurat orgs used for business and government offices, most of the residential ziggurat orgs tend to be 2 miles long by 2 miles wide. The orgs are almost completely self-contained; air, power, water, and basic food-stuffs are generated and reused on a level-by-level and section-by-section basis. While fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats are imported for the upper management, most of the population eat replicated food (foods made from base proteins and vegetable matter). While it looks and smells like fresh food, replicated food doesn't taste quite as good as real food. Markets, vestibules, shops, theaters, and amusement parks provide jobs and entertainment for the populations of the orgs. Underground antigrav trains and tunnels link the various orgs to each other and to the various factories and mines inside and outside of the cities. It is entirely possible for an individual to live inside the orgs and never actually go outside during their lifetimes. Many of the Worker Gens and their human counterparts have never been outside except to celebrate Foundation Day either in the Landing Parks of the city-states, or on the balconies of those lucky enough to have Parkside dwellings. While many people join the ARMOR military to gain citizenship, just as many join to get a chance to live outdoors. Many General Managers and lower Executives own vacation homes at the ocean and dachas in the mountains.

Unlike the CS cities, which they strongly resemble, the ARMOR Orgs do not have a Sprawls. There are no beggars allowed in the ARMOR cities. Anyone living in or near an ARMOR city has some type of job, or else they are driven away. If a being is teachable, they can hold a job in the city doing some type of menial job. If a being is considered unteachable for a city job, they are relegated to the farms that support the cities. If a being is not willing to do some type of work, they are driven away from ARMOR territory. In the ARMOR City-States, everyone serves the State or they are exiled, No Exceptions. As can be imagined, there is very little to no criminal activity within the Martian Orgs. With the major causes of criminal activity, such as poverty, unemployment, and homelessness, abolished or provided for by the state there is no underlying cause of crime other than basic greed.

ARMOR Population: Approximately 1 million beings spread fairly evenly between the three main cities. 50% of the population is literate and has a basic education. Education facilities are pretty much restricted to the Martian population, and higher ranking members of the human and D-Bee populations.

~210,000 Humans
~200,000 Martians and descendants
~80,000 Terrine (Series 1)
~200,000 Terrine (Series 2)
~130,000 Worker, Tinker, and other assorted Genies
~180,000 D-Bees.

Economy: The economy of the ARMOR City-State is mainly based on inter-city trading. While all of the cities are self-sustaining, each city also has a specialty material that is needed by the other two cities. Prometheorg supplies lumber and wood-based products. Feliorg specializes in textiles and ceramics, while Leorg specializes in fresh farm products and mining.

Goods and Services: While the ARMOR City-States do offer many modern services available in other cities, they do not offer Juicer or M.O.M. conversions. Cybernetic and Bionic augmentation is available, but is rarely used outside of the military. Those augmentations available to the citizens are inferior to military models of the same type. Most ARMOR citizens find it far easier and cheaper for them to just clone replacement body parts. Bio-Enhancements are available, but they are limited to active military use only.

Law and Order: As the entire population is viewed as being an offshoot of the corporation and the military, the courts and law enforcement operate on a version of military law. As such, judgements are quick and punishment is severe.

Society: All officials of Prometheorg have a mixture of military ranks and corporate position, whether it be the General Manager of the city (Mayor), General Counsel (Chief Prosecutor), or the General Financier (Treasurer). All personnel of the government likewise have a mix of the military and corporate-type ranks and insignia.
Besides the hierarchy of the city government, ARMOR society has a hierachy based on a person's standing in the ARMOR corporation. The most basic standing a being can have in ARMOR is Citizen. While there is a rank of Provisional-Citizen, Citizen is the most basic rank required to share in the benefits of belonging to the ARMOR Corporation. While Martian Purebloods and Halfbloods are automatically Citizens upon birth, everyone else must earn the rank of Citizen through service to the Corporation. The next social class is the rank of Assistant Manager. Like the rank of Citizen, it is a social rank that must be earned after years of service or meritorius achievement. The next rank, Manager, is the first social rank that automatically confers Citizen standing to offspring who are not Pureblood or Halfblood. The highest ARMOR social rank is that of Executive. All Pureblood and most Halfblood Martians are of this rank. It is very rare for someone who is not Martian-born to achieve this social status. Those who are born of Executive parents have a far easier time of raising in ranks than someone who is not.
Martian society, like the basic philosophy of the Martian state, is based on domination. Humans dominate the D-Bees and animals; Martians dominate the Humans; ARMOR dominates everybody else. As such, the Martian Purebloods and their descendants dominate ARMOR society by holding the majority of the Executive ranks. Normal Humans are ranked just below the Martians. While D-Bees are welcomed to join the ARMOR City-States, they must have a skill or ability that will be useful to the city-states. As such, it is nearly impossible for them to approach the Manager ranks of society. The Worker Bio-Gens are the oil that keeps the machinery of the City-States running. They, like the Terrines, have their own social rank. They are barely considered Citizens, and will never raise to one of the higher ranks. The Terrine Bio-Gens hold a special place in ARMOR society. While their access to the higher ranks is limited, their importance in protecting the City-State is recognized by everyone and is honored by all of ARMOR society. As such, they are more highly respected than some of the Executives who rule and run the City-State.
