In the aftermath of its failed attack on Columbia, the Prometheorg military realized that it had a distinct need for a small agile vehicle that could double as both a light cargo carrier and as a light troop transport. Out of the Design Bureau came the Lynx Hoverjeep. While it is superficially based on the frame of the old U.S. military’s HumVee ground vehicle, the Lynx is a fully hover capable vehicle, with hover heights as much as 50 feet above ground level. It achieves this by using ARMOR’s exclusive anti-gravity pods, powered by a miniature fusion reactor and pushed by two engine thrusters in the rear of the vehicle. The virtually silent A-G pods make the Lynx incredibly silent, actually giving it a chance of Prowling in appropriate environments. Besides the difference in power plant and means of motion, the Lynx is a fully MDC vehicle, which can withstand a huge amount of abuse before being destroyed. The open-bed version of the Lynx is standard, while an optional enclosure can be added to the vehicle, making it fully environmentally sealed. With the enclosure, the vehicle can then have a missile launcher and/or a Command & Control Sensor/Communications upgrade installed. If the proper tools and equipment are available, a trained crew can add the enclosure and missile launcher in about ten minutes. An additional 5 minutes would be needed to install the C&C package. Double these times if the tools or trained personnel are not available.
A single driver, who can also control the side-mounted laser cannon, drives the vehicle. If the missile launcher is mounted, or if the vehicle is going into combat, a gunner must control the weapons systems. The Lynx can also either seat six passengers, or carry almost two tons of material in the rear compartment. For the comfort of the driver and passengers, the vehicle has independent venting and air conditioning.
While the Prometheorg Military hasn’t made any variations of the Lynx, such a practical design would have several knock-offs. The most popular of these knock-offs is the one fielded by the Baltimore Defense Force. The BDF version is forced to use standard hoverjets, since the anti-gravity pods are beyond their capability for manufacturing. Besides giving up the ability to Prowl, the BDF version is only able to hover at half the maximum hover height and travel at ¾ the speed of the original Lynx; roughly 25 feet and 135 mph. The BDF version can only carry about 1.5 tons, while its passenger size is the same. Overall, the Lynx is a very capable design that is popping up all over the East Coast, that has proven itself time and time again in battle.
