(STORYNAME) The Day I became a True Believer
(Story)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Up until I became a security guard at Douglas County Hospital, located at 42nd. and Woolworth Ave. in Omaha, Nebraska, I was what you would call a dyed in the wool skeptic. I had experienced several differant events while growing up, but dismissed them as an over active imagination. I was assigned to work the 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. shift. My duties included making rounds of the hospital to ensure every thing was in order. I must tell you that County Hospital is not an active hospital, but at one time it was. County Hospital is now a long term care pychiatric hospital. To continue, I was making my rounds and introducing myself to the staff. When I arrived on the third floor, also refered to a three west, I stopped to visit with the chrge nurse, Marilyn. She was seated behind a counter and I was leaning against the counter. Directly behind her was a large patients room. The door leading to the patient room was old and heavy with the wire mess securtiy glass. As I was speaki! ng to Marilyn the door closed with such force that the glass was shattered. It's hard to explain, but even though I was looking at the door when it slammed, I never saw it close! Marilyn and I got up to check the patients thinking one of them had some how gotten to the door and slammed. When we entered the room all the patients were still in their beds. Most of the patients were restrained in their beds by cloth restraints to prevent them from getting out of bed and hurting themselves. We could find no explenation as to what caused the door to slam and why the glass broke. I next made a call to maintenence to come up and fix the window. I had to remain there until they arrived so I continued my conversation with Marilyn. As I was speaking to her I felt a pair of hands rest on my shoulders. I shrugged my shoulders to indicate to the person I was aware they were behind me. I thought however was behind me did not want to interupt the conversation. The hands continued to remain on! my shoulders and I continued to shrug. Marilyn asked me why I was fidgeting and I asked her, "Who is standing behind me?" She told me noone was behind me. I then spun around and sure enough, no one was there. At this point I deceided to leave the unit and continue my rounds. I went across the hall to call for the elevator. I was pretty spooked and told Marilyn I didn't know what was going on, but I was leaving. The elevator was taking forever to come and as I was waiting for it a nurse's aide by the name of Lotti stepped into the hallway. She was a very large black lady, with a deep southern accent. She took one look at me and said "Child, you look like you've seen a ghost. What got you all upset?" I told her nothing got me upset, but she wouldn't take that for an answer. She told me to sit down and she would explain to me what had happened. I thought "great, the crazy people are taking care of the crazy people." The area near the elevators is quite large and in the middle! of the hallway was a table the nurses and aides used when they weren't making their rounds. I sat down across from Lottie and as I did I heard a sound like someone shuffling their shoes back and forth across the floor. The sound was right next to me! Lottie looked to where the sound came from and said "hush now, you got her scared enough." The sound stopped. Lottie then proceeded to tell me a story about a patient named Jack. Back when County Hospital was an active hospital the third floor was used as the alcohol treatment unit. Jack was a constant patient. He would come in to "dry out" (as he called it) and then leave when he was feeling better. One bright morning Jack told Lottie he wouldn't be coming back again. Lottie didn't catch what he meant and continued making her rounds. Throughout the day Jack told any one who would listen he wouldn't be coming back. By late afternoon Lottie was at the end of the hallway when she heard some one running down the length of the hal! lway towards the floor to ceiling window. As Lottie looked out the patinets room she saw Jack running towards to window. Jack crashed through the window, Lottie ran out and was able to grab one of his arms. He struggled with her and told. "I told you I wouldn't be coming back!" Lottie was unable to hang onto Jack and he fell to his death. Since that time Jack has hung around 3 ATU. (3 alcohol and treatment) Lottie assured me Jack meant no harm and this was just his way of saying hi. Her story did make me feel a bit better, but whenever I went onto 3ATU I would always say hi to Jack and ask him not to touch. Every now and then he would touch me, I guess it was his way of saying hi, I'm still here. I thought it was funny that Jack stayed around since his last words were "I'm not coming back" I continued to work at Douglas County Hospital fro two more years and during that time got quite used to the strange things that happend. Friends have told me I should write down my expe! riences and because of your web site maybe I will. Thanks for letting me share my story.

(STORYNAME) Jesus?
well my friend and I(Im sorry I can only give you her first 2 initials M.E.) were walking around her house. we ghost hunt a lot & know when somethings around, and we were pretty sure something was around any way just before we went inside, a woman came out screaming "oh my God, oh my God" M.E. and I got scared so we ran back to her house. Later on M.E. called me and said the woman was on the news she had claimed to see Jesus! We were not only astonished because of our faith, but because something like that happened without us knowing! The police came to investigate and found no signs of a hoax.

(STORYNAME) Little Annie
I was walking with my friends when we heard a voice. It was high pitched and sweet. It was the voice of a child calling for help. So we all ran down the hill where the old abandoned church was built, to find a dog barking. At first we didn't notice it but after awhile, it became aparent that something like smoke took the form of a little girl! She was wearing a bonnet and a night own. She was the little colonial girl I was told about last year when I first moved to my town. So me and my friends got the dog away and just stood there petrified. Well seeing how we were all in the wooded area of town in the middle of the night it seemed fitting. Then she spoke to us. I remember it like it was yesterday. "They can always tell I'm here...." and then her voice drifted off into the wind and she disappeared. I think she was refering to the dog. We ran down the path screaming at the top of our lungs because we were hoping someone would hear us and come see what was wrong. Unfortunately, we were going to do a seance so we wanted to be away from all eyes. My boyfriend said that's the way you have to do it. He likes anything that will scare me. This definately counted as scary. We ran to the police to ask where city records for the 1500's could be found. Or at last where they'd let us see them. Her father was the pastor at the abandoned church. Then we discovered that there was a fire in that church and people just left it there and was never used agian. But we never found anything on ho the little girl died. We wondered if the church fire had anything to do with her death. The only thing we found out was that her name was Annie and that she was 13 when she died. About our age. Then we got our big break, the historical society heard about what we had seen and gave us the town transcripts and any found diaries from that time. We were one of the many groups that had seen her. She only seemed to appear in front of children or people around the age of thirteen. The entire town was on a ghost hunt. We found out that her father kept a diary religously. He said that all any body wanted to know was in the Transcript obituaries. But the main thing he kept metioning was that " I doth hate thy dog!" My friends and I didn't know what it meant so we went into the obituaries. There it was. She had gone to the abandoned church at night, to pray for her long since dead mother, when a rafter came down from the celing crushing her to death. We went to the old church agian that night, but we dared not go in. We were looking for Annie. A dog came up to us and barked. Thank god it was only Rachaels dog but the dogs bark brought something important to our attention. When the dog barked the remains of the the church shook making some of the rafters fell. The father knew the family dog Bruno went with her. The transcript said he shot the dog shortley after in a one on one interview with the father. But we still wanted to know why her soul wasn't at rest. The answer never came. She was stuck in between worlds like a polterguist. Two months later or July 22, 1998 the day of her death her ghost came to me while I was walking by the church. This time I was alone. I wasn't frightened though. She wanted me to follow her into the church!!! I thought she was trying to kill me but I followed her into the chapel. Though I hadn't seen a dog she looked worried. Her exact words were to " Look under the yonder rafter to retrieve mine soul and thee shall be freed." Okay whatever I thought. I lifted up the decaying log to find a preserved locket. It looked almost brand new and when I opened it I found a picture of her whole family. Mother, Father and a baby I took to be her. A dog wandered in and I noticed it had a collar that read "Bruno". It had hole in it's neck so I figured that's where the pastor had shot the poor thing. When I looked up to see the girl for the last time. She thanked me and disappeared with the dog. It was then I noticed that the locket had disappeared as well. The next day I returned to see that the church had collapsed. I believe that her soul is at peace now and sometimes I can hear her laughing in the wind. No one will believe me will you????? ------------------------------------------------------------------
