Welcome to Blu Flyer's How to Make a Character guide! This is a (hopefully) comprehensive guide on making a character compatable with the World of Aliroos ^.^ Have fun!
Well, different people have different ways of creating characters. I have a kind of set way, and we're going to use mine for right now ^.^ Once you kinda see where I'm going, you can try your own way.

Now. As many people on the AliRPG know, I take things as they hit me. I rarely plan ahead. So, unlike people who create characters specifically for plots, I create mine in the hopes that the "cool thing" about them can somehow become involved in a plot =)

Here are the steps I use to make a character.

Step 1. Chose a Name

Yes, I know this is usually the last thing you do. For me, it is the first. Think up a really coooooool name, because Aliroos HAVE cooooool names =P If you have trouble thinking of a name, check out this page!

Now, let me tell you something about Aliroo names. Here is an excerpt from "Aliroo for Idiots" by Tron Cole.

When a Fledgling is born, it's name is half it's parent's name, and half an original name. Names are very important to Roos; they carry the family line. Here's how names work:

If the fledge is a female, it's last name will be it's mother's first name with a different spelling. If the fledge is a male, it's last name will be it's father's first name with a different spelling. The fledge's first name is determined by the parent who's first name is NOT the fledge's last name. For example, My name is Tron Cole. My Father's name was Coal. Since I'm a buck my father's name was re-spelled and that is my last name. My mother gave me my first name. If the family of Roos decides to have more than one fledge, the other fledges will have the same last name as their eldest sibling.

So, now you have a name! Great =D

Step 2. Chose your Color...

...Any color! Aliroos are colored depending on 1) where they were born and 2) who their parents are. Another excerpt for you from Cole's pamphlet:

Each country's Magic Dust also has an individual Magic Frequency. The most magical colors are Black, White, Silver and metallic colors. A Fledge's magic powers are usually determined by the same factors that change it's color. A fledgling born to two Black parents, on the Black Isles, during the Black Hour will be extremely powerful magically. This is, accordingly, extremely rare. Fledges that are born during/with the Blue, Green, Yellow or Purple cycles will be very intelligent and have a knack for weapons. Those born during the Earthly Colored Cycles will usually have the qualities of strength and endurance.

Step 4. Find your Character

Every interesting character has a good personality. Find your character's personality. Is s/he a reject, a product of childhood scorn and trauma? Or is s/he a beautiful, shy, studious type? Or a 'roo who grew up careless and confident? There are all sort of characters; find one that fits your Aliroo. Was your character the bully in school, or the one that got beat up?

Find your character's attitude. I find it helpful to take a mix of good characters from books or TV or movies. For example, my char Blu Flyer is a mix of Kathryn Janeway, Ellen Ripley, Sarah Conner, David Nelson of WNYX, and Deirdre of Amber. And a touch of Falco maybe =P Use them as a base, and combine their personalities and then combine THAT with your character's history. Does your character have a terrible secret? Does s/he have a fascination with flying Arwings? Does s/he have a secret crush on someone else in the RPG who doesn't even know s/he exists? It all happens, and it's all excellent plot material =)

Step 3. Love your Character

This is an important step. Once you have a char, once they're all set up and good to go... You gotta love your char. You gotta think of them as a real person; what would my char REALLY do in this situation? You have to look out for your char, and at the same time you have to get them into situations that are new and interesting for them. Give your character a soul, and look into it and find out what their goals are, what their ambitions and fears are. Believe your character is REAL, and you will be able to decide what they will do. Get to know your character. Get in touch. If you don't, it will be like playing a video game. Sure, you may be able to beat it but what's the fun? For example of video games... The first time I played Star Fox, I thought it was a blast. Sure. It's a short game, though. But ya know what? I still play it. And ya know why? Cuz Lylat's real fur me. Maybe some part of my brain tells me it's not true, but it is, in most of my brain. Falco, Fox, they're all real to me =) And whenever I play.. Man, you should watch me play, I yell at them even if I'm all alone, hehehe...

What I'm getting at.. What am I getting at... Let me repeat myself.

Love your character.
