Every Aliroo is equipped with a TDT on their ¤15th birthday. The TDT is useful in many more ways than one; It is a necessity in Dimension Traveling.
--FUNCTIONS-- --1. Transportation: Interdimensional
The TDT can work on transporting at two levels. The first is Interdimensional, wherein the user can transport (slang: "flash") throughout dimensions. The TDT is able to transport one Aliroo a "width" or 4 dimensions, and multiple users via one TDT 2 dimensions over. The TDT can be set to flash to a specific location and/or planet in a dimension (helpful). Some locations have restricted TDT use, such as areas that are under quarantine, or areas that require passes. In this case you will be redirected to either the Embassy, or you will receive an error message from your TDT. --2. Transportation: Local The other flashing function allows one to flash within a dimension. This operates on a separate plane, though the Interdimensional transport would also work. The Local Flash takes less energy and can transport an unlimited amount of mass within the same dimension. --3. Time Distortion Version 1.0 of the TDT did not include the Time Distortion function. TDT version 1.4 included a dial, allowing the user to set time speed to a factor or multiple. When invoked, the world/dimension the user leaves is left at that time speed until the user returns. The time distortion doesn't effect the natives or other Aliroos. This function is magically based, rather than technologically based like the other functions of the TDT. --4. Embassy linkups If you are visiting an area that has an Embassy, the TDT is able to link to the Embassy's computer and download information. Information includes local slang, language, geography and of course, Aliroo information. --5. Communications The TDT is able to send clear communications over an expanse of 2 dimensions. These communications include voice-communication, transfer of information via text or programs, and visual communication (visuals come through only in the same Dimension). --6. Storage Every TDT has the ability to store an infinite amount of objects in a Dimensional pocket. The "pocket" can be accessed from any Dimension, no matter where it is actually located (see I:A:1). This pocket is usually used to store currency, weapons, and personal belongings. Objects stored in the pocket are turned into compact energy before being transferred. TDTs and life-forms cannot be stored. --7. Personal Computer Your TDT also works as a computer. It has voice recognition and includes a voice driver. You can store personal logs, photographs, and other information in the TDT for later use. The TDT also has a primitive artificial intelligence driver, mostly engineered by magic, and powered by an Orb. Between the Orb and the TDT an Aliroo can derive valuable information and advice. --DESIGN--
The TDT is approximately 5 inches long, and 1.5 inches tall. It is oval-shaped, and rounded on one end. It opens three ways; First, it opens horizontally. The top part flips open in two halves to reveal the shortcut to the flashing and communication functions. If you wish to access the computer or visual link, flip the bottom half open. --USE-- --How-To
The TDT is quite simple to operate. Please see the diagram in the link above. The first monitor is the Set LCD, which will show you the program that will be executed when the GO button is pushed. The second set of controls are shortcut keys. Each key can be programmed to any function. Most Aliroos use these to shortcut a command to a location. There are 14 shortcut buttons. The second trio of buttons control what function you are implementing. The first button is the FLASH button (divided into 2 sub keys, local and remote), the second is the COMM, and the third is STORE. The next four slots are used to locate something. The headers are as follows, in respective order: Dimension, Galaxy, System, Planet. The next double slots are to pinpoint a location (Latitude and Longitude) After that are two buttons, CLEAR and SET. Once you have options keyed in, press the CLEAR button to reset them, and SET to send the information to the LCD.
The GO button. Once your desired program is shown in the LCD, point the TDT in the proper direction and press GO. There are two GO buttons, both do the same thing, but are located differently for accessibility.
VSL (Visual System Locator): This chart is used for visual charting and location.
Visual Comm Monitor: The small screen in the bottom half of the TDT is a viewscreen that will show who you are talking to if you implement the Visual Comm Link.
PC: This section responds to voice commands, and it will record data as well as store and send it.
Emergency Preset: This button will immediately open a portal to Aliroo HQ in case of emergencies.
HOW TO USE: --FLASH: There are two ways to set a Flash location. To tell the TDT you wish to Flash, first press the FLASH button. If you are transporting within the dimension, specify LOCAL; if you are going outer-dimensional, select REMOTE.
-Mode One: Vocal location. Simply tell your TDT where you wish to go. Give specific coordinates; Dimension, Galaxy, System and Planet. If you are inspecific you will receive an error message. -Mode Two: VSL. The VSL is used to explore regions not explored before. Tell the computer what Dimension you wish to go to. The VSL will show you a picture. the Dimension picture is merely a black screen; Dimensions are to vast to show. Tell the TDT your desired Galaxy and you will continue to get charts until you narrow your desired location to a location on a planetoid. You can also ask you TDT about where you should go; Give it information about your desired destiny and it will compute. Once the location is entered into the Dimension, Galaxy, System, Planet, Lng and Lat slots, either press the SET button to transfer the information to the LCD, or the CLEAR button to clear the information. The TDT has ten-command recall, so if you accidentally delete a program, it will be recalled if it was within ten commands "away." Once the destination is SET and appears in the LCD, aim the TDT and press the GO button. The portal will open up.
--COMM: There are two ways to set up a Communications Link. Before you specify whom you wish to contact, first press the COMM button.
-Mode One: Simply tell your TDT whom you wish to contact. -Mode Two: Use the VSL (in the same manner you do to find a location to Flash to) to narrow down the area in which you seek to find someone. Your TDT will notify you who has a TDT in that area; Tell it whom you wish to speak with. Once you locate the person you wish to speak with, press SET to send the information to the LCD, and CLEAR to clear the information. Press GO to send a communications request. The other Aliroo's TDT will notify them of the request, and they will either receive or decline. --STORE: -Storing: To store an object, first press the STORE button. Then, aim the TDT at the object you wish to store. A beam 1/4 inch in width will shoot up to 15 feet. Be precise; The first thing the beam hits will be scanned, and the information about it will be transferred to the LCD. (as long as it is not a TDT or a life-form). The TDT will request a name under which the object will be saved; If you do not supply a name the object will be stored under a number. You can also cancel by pushing "clear." -Retrieving: To retrieve an object, press STORE, then GO. A list of your inventory will be listed in the PC area of your TDT. Select an item by touching the item on the screen, or tell the TDT what you wish to remove (by its name or number). PROGRAMMING: --Programming COMM links and FLASH destinations:
First, press a Preset/Shortcut key. If the key already has a program, it will appear in the LCD. If you wish to erase this program, press CLEAR TWICE. When you have an empty Shortcut key, press it. The figure "EMPTY" will appear in the LCD. When EMPTY is displayed, press either FLASH or COMM (depending on what you wish to program). Follow the instructions for programming a location or communication link. Once you have the location/comm link in the LCD, press SET TWICE. This will set that program for the Shortcut key you specified earlier. --RENOVATIONS-- --Time Distortion:
The new TDT has a Time-Distortion dial. The Time-Distortion relies on verbal commands only. When you wish to leave a dimension in a state of time distortion, first program your new destination. After you press SET, tell the computer the command, "Set Time to:" And then what you desire. The form of commands are: x/y speed (i.e. 1/2 speed) Yx speed (i.e. 2x speed (spoken two-times-speed))
The Time change will be triggered when your TDT leaves the Dimension. You can not change the time in the dimension you are in. When you distort time, it effects the entire Dimension, only to keep things concurrent. The Time-Distortion does no effect anything inside the Dimension; It really is effecting YOUR relationship with the Dimension. The Time-Distortion is magically-based. --Non-Aliroo Use: The latest version of the TDT has the adaption to allow non-Aliroos to use it. This adaption is limited; As with normal Aliroos, the non-Aliroo must have a license, earned on Silverstreak Island. Non-Aliroos must also have a stream of particles injected into their bloodstream that will make the magic and technology compatible with the TDT. The second injection is issued after the non-Aliroo has been approved of by the Council on Silverstreak, or the Academy, or the Gym, OR any other group of/individual Aliroos that have the authority to issue the injections. More information on Alirization can be found in my lab. --TROUBLE SHOOTING-- There are several bugs in the TDT. The TDT is compatible with a human internet program abbreviated ICQ. But the TDT has been known to "quirk" and sometimes the ICQ program does not register the TDT signal as valid. So although the TDT allows humans to interact with Aliroos, it does not always work. There is a similar quirk with the comm system of some Cornerian Arwings.
The second is not really a bug, but a warning. Some Aliroos are able to manipulate either/both the magic-based and technologically-based aspects of the TDT. Such manipulations include timed deactivation, deactivation and interference with the COMM system, and others. So far the Emergency Preset has not been able to be hacked, and the way to interfere with it are only known by the developer. If you run into any problems, return to the base immediately and have them look over your TDT.
