Following text is present for search robots: This homepage is dedicated to Druuna, the main character in Paolo Eluteri Serpieri's science fiction saga Morbus Gravis. Druuna grew up in the City. In this hostile environment druuna has kept a free spirit. What makes druuna special as a protagonist is druuna's weakness. druuna can not change the evil she encounter. druuna has no clear view of right and wrong. druuna has no preconceptions. druuna just have a strong will and a independent mind. druuna searches the sweet and beautiful pleasures of life, but in druunas world these pleasures are seldom more than dreams. In the real world Druuna experience that the beauty of tender love is often replaced with violent rapes and rude abasement. In these situations Druuna often gives in for the overwhelming feelings of pure lust. This, so often denied, close relationship between pain and pleasure is one of the human paradoxes. Druuna's has total devotion to her mate Shastar. This is druuna's driving force in the first part of the story. Later, after Shastar's decline, druuna more and more the searches for a way out of misery. Shastar is Druuna's boy friend. Shastar is infected by the plague and he has already started to mutate. Druuna is willing to do everything to get the serum Shastar needs, but Druuna can not prevent Shastar's condition to worsen. Shastar slowly turns into a monster, but his love for Druuna persists. Druuna is very much created from the dreams of the Paolo Eluteri Serpieri. Pauolo Eluteri Serpieri's exploration of dreams, as well as his love for his dreamgirl Druuna, is the basis of the saga Morbus Gravis. Lewis was the first captain in The City, but now he is just a head in formaldehyde, Lewis is kept in live by the ships evil entity, the computer Delta. Lewis has the ability to communicate with Druuna through Druuna's mind. Lewis uses this ability to reach out from his prison and to help Druuna. Lewis sometimes even resume his former appearance in Druuna's mind, where he creates a virtual love scene. Doc is a scientific officer, but he will also function as a psychologist and physician. Doc appear as a searcher of truth, and is Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri's alter-ego in the Morbus Gravis. Will is the commander of the spaceship. Will is a visionary with strong psionic powers. Will first meet Druuna in a vision, even before the spaceship reaches the city. Terry is member of the spaceship crew. Terry's role in the crew is not clear, but Terry sometimes functions as a soldier. Terry does not trust Druuna, finding that Druuna is threatening Terry's place. It is also revealed that Terry has a secret life: Terry has a lechery to let the prolets debauch her. The gigantic spaceship, which is Druuna's birthplace, called "The City" has been is drifting in space for centuries. The aim of the journey is to find a planet to build a new civilisation. In The City the situation has come totally out of control, and anarchy is growing. The deadly plague, Morbus Gravis, has ravage the society. Those infected turns to mutant monsters. Priests rule the society. The priests control the soldiers who raid the City hunting for the infected. The mutants gets their deserved punishment, banishment to the lower levels. The City is controlled by the omnipresent computer "Delta", connected to the reminiscence of Lewis, the ships first Captain. Paolo Eluteri Serpieri The six albums in the Morbus Gravis series is drawn in the period from 1985 to 1997. Paolo Eluteri Serpieri is a master in anatomic drawing. Serpieri uses his skill and his obvious love to Druuna, to convey every detail of Druuna's wonderfully curvaceous body. Like many of his fellow Italian cartoon artist, e.g. Milo Manara, Guido Crepax, Paolo Eluteris Serpieri's strength lies in the form and the quality of the drawings, more than in the than in the storytelling. Morbus Gravis is Serpieri's exploration of the relationship between dreams and reality, and in the same time a pursuit of the perfect woman. In Morbus Gravis, Paolo Eluteri Serpieri has created his alter ego in the character Doc. Trough Doc one can see the loving and mysterious relationship Serpieri has with Druuna. About the Druuna Homepage The Druuna homepage was born by the fascination of the Morbus Gravis adventure, and I hope this homepage can do justice to Paolo Eluteri Serpieri's outstanding art. Morbis Gravis is published in many languages and in different editions, with different levels of censorship. In the US the series is best known from the pages of Heavy Metal. In Heavy Metal the story of Druuna is heavily censored, even whole pages are missing! Material for this homepage is collected from Italian, German, Danish and French editions, as well as from Heavy Metal. Morbus Gravis is definitively not for children. Due to the nature of the net, I have tried to avoid offensive material on these pages.
