DESERT SONG

I have come
like the lion of legend
to rest my sable mane
on the heels
of the desert maiden.

I have come
like the evening sun
laying my tongues of flame
on the thighs
of the desert sand.

In the shadow
of the eagle's mountain
oasis, woman of a silent aura!
You have brought me the gift
of the desert moon.
