Autopsy Report--Postmortem Examination
Deceased: Morris, Charles Patrick
Coroner's File: 1350-46D
Date od Death: 27 March 1985
Autopsy: Performed
Date of Autopsy: 28 March 1985
Hospital: County General
Coroner: Everett Stoat
Physician: A. Yamaguchi
Summary:
The victim, a twenty four year old male Caucasian, was struck several times in the head with a blunt object, causing some cuts and bruising. The right eye has also been gouged out and removed. The major wound was the severing of the left arm, with fatal amount of blood loss. Victim was officially pronounced dead on arrival at 555 Brooksbank Avenue by the Coroner on duty and as noted above. As a result, no means of resuscitation were engaged.
External Examination:
This is the clothed body of a man in his early twenties who seems at first examination to have suffered violent blows to the cranium and has had his left arm severed just below the shoulder. There is a great deal of blood loss, along with signs of fatal hemorrhage.
The nature of the remaining tissue suggests that the amputation was not performed willingly and while the victim was conscious. The tearing and mutilation at the point of this major wound indicates that a chain saw may have been used. This is a common technique a "signature" if you will, of certain organized crime factions. The wounds are practically identical to those of known criime figures whose deaths were caused by Triads.
The blows to the head were probably not enough to have been fatal. The mutilation of the eye socket and extraction of the entire sight organ was also performed while the victim was at least semi-conscious. The pain experienced due to such an injury may have been extreme enough to have caused the deceased to go into shock and lose consciousness.
Victim is of trim body build (6 feet, zero inches, and one hundred eighty pounds). The scalp short and of medium to light color. The eyes show periorbital sallow discoloration. There is no orbital edema or proptosis. The irises are brown. The pupils are asymmetric, right 4mm, left 2mm. The conjunctiva is clear. The nose and ears are unremarkable. The mouth shows no injury to lips or buccal mucosa. The teeth are in good condition.
Internal Examination:
The most immediately impression is that the head wounds to this individual were deliberate in nature. Cuts and contusions on the scalp and face indicate that the blows were intended not to kill but only to cause pain. Every quadrant has experienced mild. None of the cranial fluid is missing and 100 % of cranial matter is intact.
Although the wounds to the shoulder area of the victim are extensive and there has been a great deal of blood loss, close internal examination leads me to conclude that these were not the cause of death.
There is frothing of fluid in the respiratory tract which indicates death by drowning. Since there was no sign of submersion (i.e. [sic, it should be e.g.] goose skin or wrinkled flesh) on any portion of the body except around the face and head, we can say in all probability that the victim was forcibly drowned in perhaps a bathtub or toilet, before being mutilated. The only indication contrary to this theory is the marked bradycardia, which indicates a raised plasma sodium level.
This could lead us to believe that the victim may have drowned in sea water rather than fresh or tap water as at first speculated. There is no way of knowing with certainty how this individual has died, however it is certain that he was drowned first, then mutilated. With this new found evidence uncovered ni the internal phase of te examination, I now withdar earlier speculation that the victim was conscious while mutilated.
In whichever saline solution the victim was drowned, the death would have been slow, lasting approximately one and one half to two and one half minutes.
I feel no need to formulate a summarized conclusion to the findings of this postmortem. The data listed within the text shall be extensive enough to draw firm conclusions as to the way in which this individual died. Enclosed find the chemical and blood sample analysis.
