THE DUNGEON LABYRINTH

"The East/West Passage"

As soon as your feet step onto the steep passage you start to slide, faster and faster. The candle is blown out and you are hurtling head on into complete darkness. If it was'nt so exhilarating and if you had a moment to reflect, you would probably be terrified. You reflexivly bend your knees and crouch and put one hand out in front of you, and the other out to your side for balance. Luckily years of adventuring and your well honed fighting skills help you maintain your footing. You break through what feels to be giant spider webs, which slow your progress a bit. Angry glowing sets of multiple eyes that flash by as you hurtle onward make you glad that the webs did not stop you completely. You sense the floor beneath you leveling out and in order to prevent an impact with whatever was at the bottom you tuck and roll several times coming to a less than gentle stop against what feels like a rough stone, moss covered wall. You stand still clutching the extinguished candle which nows bares the deep imprints of your hand from the your grip. Pulling some of the spider webbing from your clothing, you remove your dagger from its sheath. Holding the webbing next to the candle wick you strike the stone wall with the metal pommel of your dagger. The ensuing sparks ignite the webbing which lights the wick.

With the candle light you peer back up the steep passageway you just descended and reaffirm the impossibility of returning that way. Even if you could climb it, there are some very large, very angry, very poisonous arachnids that would love a second chance at you. There is a passage off to the west from which you hear the surf pounding. It must lead to the coastline cliff where you entered Ghostkeep. Having ascertained this you turn aound and follow the eastern passageway. As you round a bend you see a set of carved stone stairs leading upward and on them a large figure dressed in the garb of the Rogue Assassin Guild, her sword drawn So this was the noise you heard from the top of the steep passage. Her back is to you as she sneaks up the stairs, unaware of your presence.

DO YOU....

Attempt to take on the assassin yourself, hoping to best her with your dagger against her sword?

OR....

Run for the westeren passage and the front gate of Ghostkeep, hoping your fleetness of foot would be sufficent to arrive their soon enough to raise the alarm of the assassins sneak attack?
