They had arrived during the early evening and the traffic going through the town was minimal. After a few false turns they found the police station and got out of the car. A middle aged police officer came out to greet them. "You from the FBI?" he asked "Agents Mulder and Scully." Mulder said as they flashed their badges at them. "I'm officer West, Kirk West. Real sorry to have to bring you all the way out here agents. I don't like to waste the FBI's time on stuff like this." "You think this is a waste of time?" asked Mulder innocently. "Well yeah. I mean, it's not like someone can really be injured and then some guy come over and heal him just like that. It's against all of nature." "But your report said that there were a number of witnesses all at the scene at the time of this apparent healing. Each of them reported to have seent he same thing. And then you have the driver who ran the man down, the fiancee of the man and the man himself. That's pretty convincing for something which is against nature." "Well I'm not denying that those people saw something I'm just questioning what they saw." "gee look Scully, we've found your soul mate." Mulder whipsered to his partner. "Come on I'll take you to the man involved." They drove a little way out of town to a small suburb, mostly residential houses, the occasional school or local store. Traditional white picket fences and freshly mown lawns. They pulled up outside a house with a blue sedan parked in the drive. They knocked on the door, a voice cried out from the house somewhere "Hang on, I'll be right there." There were sounds of feet clumping around inside, they got louder and the door was opened revealing a young man in his late twenties. He had sawdust in his hair and a tool belt round his waist. He work a chequered shirt and blue jeans with gren socks on his feet. "Oh hi Kirk. Are these the FBI guys you said would be calling?" "Sure are Mark, do you mind if we come in for a spell?" "No problem, just doing a little handy work in the back so you'll excuse the mess." They walked through his hallway into a neat living room. Only a few extension cables hinted at the work that he was involved in. "Tell me Mr Thomas. It's been what? FIve days since your accident?" said Scully. "Six now." "And yet you seem to be in good health and are managing DIY when you should by all rights be dead. Why is this?" "I'm not too sure. The actual incident is a little hazy in my mind. I remember leaving the restaurant and walking down the street. The next thing I know I'm hitting the road real hard. Then there's balckness, a tingling sensation followed by Amy's voice. Then I sat up and everyoen was looking at me like they'd seena ghost or something. WHich I guess isn't too far off. I'm not sure about the guy who saved me." "The tall stranger?" said Mulder. "Yeah apparently. Although you'd have to talk to Amy about that. I was alittle preoccupied when he was around." "SO you don't feel any pain at all? No discomfort or aches?" "No sir. I feel as fit as a fiddle." "Well I'm a qualified docotr would you mind if I examined you breifly?" asked Scully. "Not at all. As long as it's only my shirt I'll have to take off, otherwise I might have to ask AMy first." he grinned. "I assure you the shirt will be enough." Mark removed his shirt and shook his hair to get the dust out of it. Scully stood up and moved over to mark. She had brought with her some basic medical tools such as a stehescope and a small magnifying glass. "Mulder could you turn some more lights on so I can see better? And would you mind stepping into the middle of the room Mr Thomas and lifting your arms." Scully walked around the man examining in great detail his arms and torso. He was in good shape for someone who ahd been so close to death. Something caught her eye and she reached for his right arm. "Hold still for a moment." She peered closer at his arm just above his elbow there seemed to be a small mark. There was a lline. A small blemish on the skin running across his arm for about three inches. It was quite faint and she was certain she wouldn't have spotted it if it weren't for a spotlight in the room pointing directly at it. It looked for all the worl ldike a scar from a healed wound, one which would be considered to have healed over years ago. "Have you ever inured your arm int he past Mark?" "No, never." "Not even when you were little? Climbing trees?" "Nope. We didn't have any round where we were growing up, by the time we moved to a place near a park I was mor einterested in girls than climbing." "Well you seem to have a scar on your arm which looks quite old. Some of the eye witnesses mention your arm was injured durnign the accident. I'd like to take a sample of the skin tissue if you wouldn't mind." "Sure, no problem, what do I have to do?" "Just come to the hospital tomorrow around eleven. I'll take a sample then." "Excuse me Mr THomas, when can we talk to Amy?" "Well she's away until tomorrow, her mom had some illness and I thought it'd be best for Amy to go visit her. It's not like I'm in any trouble. But her mom's gettign better now so she'll be back tomorrow afternoon. You can ask her questions then." "OK well thanks for your time Mr Thomas, if we have any more questions qe know where to find you." "And don't forget the hospital tomorrow." said Scully. "I won't."
