About three or four years from a new breed of SuperHeroes arose, These were a more violent and sadistic group of heroes. When a new "hero" named Magog came to Metropolis he brought with him a new brand of justice. When the Joker came to Metropolis, he killed people, including Lois Lane and led police, Magog and Superman on a manhunt. When he was apprehended by Superman, Magog came and killed him. When Magog went to trial, he was aquited and praised as a hero. People wondered if there was a use for Superman anymore. When Ma and Pa Kent died and then Lois Lane, Superman went into a self imposed excile. Many of the old Superheroes did the same. Green Lantern built a city in space, The Flash kept his city free of the new Heroes, Hawkman spent his time fighting crimes against nature, and Wonder Woman lost her royalty. Batman on the other hand built robots to fight his battle after his crippling.
A few years later it got so bad that the heroes had killed off most of the villans and started making gangs and began fighting each other. Large gang wars ensued and many innocents were killed in the frays. One of the few remaining supervillans, named the Parasite was hunted by Magog and his Justice battalion. He begged for mercy but they showed him none. When Captain Atom attacked him, Parasite panicked and ripped open his containment suit. The force was like a nueclear weapon, and killed everyone on the scene except Magog.
Wonder Woman went to the Fortress of solitude to try to convince Superman to came back and help the world, Superman said he wasn't going to interfer in human affairs again. Superman told Wonder Woman to go back to her island, she was safe there. A few days later, during a battle with some Superheroes Superman came down and apprehended them all. He re-formed the Justice league.
The Human Defense league, founded by Lex Luthor, included Selena Cyle, Edward Nigma, Billy Batson (Captain Marvel) and Vandel Savage. Billy Batson, Now adult was subjected to many years of Mr. Mind worms. He had lost all his common sense and was a pawn of Luthor's. Bruce Wayne joined the HDL in order to find out about Billy who was the last wild card in the grand scheme of things.
