Origin: Once an ordinary human, Black Manta was forced to wear complex scuba gear just to get around underwater, He was Aquaman's most dangerous villan and his most lame, He was an undersea pirate looking for treasure and riches thea were reported to be under the sea. His travels led him into many conflicts with Aquaman and during one scheme Aquaman's son Arthur III was killed. Aquaman hated Black Manta and vowed a vendeta against him. Years later during DC's underworld unleashed storyline, Black Manta sold his soul to Neron and Neron made him a creature of the deep, an actual Manta ray. Since then Black Manta has made his home in one of the deepest parts of the Ocean, Devil's Deep.
