THE SPORT AND ART OF THE SWORD
Or: The Method and Manner of Safe Swordsmanship
Welcome to my fencing page!
If you are reading this, you have come here for one of many possible reasons. You may have heard about this page through the class I teach at Reed College. If you are taking my college class, you may be needing a P.E. credit, and this class just happens to fit into your schedule. Perhaps some of you have recently seen a movie that had some swordfighting in it, such as ''The Princess Bride'', or ''Star Wars'' and want to learn to do something heroic, or at least epic. Perhaps an interest in history or role-playing has led you here. You have sought me out for many of these reasons. Whatever your motivation, I would like to congratulate you for keeping alive a sport that will strengthen you intellectually, as well as physically. I have been participating in this sport since late 1983, and have never really stopped. If you so desire you can fence occasionally for fun, or have an adventure that can last a lifetime.
