Solar System Facts

The Sun :  The true distance of the sun is 1.00000102 astromonomicle units or 92,955,902 miles. Our orbit being elipticle, the distance of the sun varies between a minimum {perihelion} of 91,402,500 miles and a maximum {aphelion } of 94,509,300 miles. The Sun is classified as a yellow dwarf type G2, although its mass at 2 octillion tons is  332,946.04 times that of the Earths and represents over 99 percent of the total mass of the solar system. The Suns diameter is 865,040 miles and its density is 1.408 times that of water or one quarter that of Earth.

The Sun has a central temperature of 15,400,000 K{kelvin} and a core pressure of 1.65 million tons per square inch.It uses up 4.4 million tons of hydrogen a second, although it will have taken 10 billion years {about 5 billion years from preasent date} to exaust its energy supply. The luminous intensity of the Sun is 2.7 octillion candala.

Planets Facts

Largest:Jupiter with an equatorial diameter of 88,846 miles and a polar diameter of 83,082 miles, is the largest planet in the solar system its mass is 317.828 times and its volume 1,323.3 times that of Earth. It also has the shortest period of rotation, resulting in a jovean day of 9 hours 50 min 30.003 seconds in the equatoreal zone.

Smallest:  The discovery of Pluto by Clyde William Tombaugh {usa} at the Lowell Observitory, Flagstaff AZ was announced on 13 march 1930. The planet has a diameter of 1,417 miles making it the smallest planet in the solar system. Very little is know about Pluto except that it has one moon named Cheron and that its orbit is unlike the other planets. Eight of the nine planets orbit the sun in about the same plain, Pluto's orbit is highly eliptical swinging it inside of Neptunes orbit . It takes Pluto 249 Earth years to orbit the Sun.

coldest:  Triton a moon of Neptune has a surface tempature of -391 F the lowest tempature observed in the solar system.

Hottest:  Venus has the hottest surface in the solar system its highest was estimated at 864 F . The atmosphere of Venus is mostly carbon dioxcide {a green house gas} heat builds on the surface and can not escape.

Nearest:  The fellow planet closest to the Earth is Venus which at times is only 26 million miles inside of the orbit of Earth , compared with Mars closest approach of 35 million miles outside Earths orbit.

Fastest:  Mercury, which orbit the Sun at an average distance of 35,983,100 miles, has a period of revolution of 87.9686 days, thus giving it the highest   average orbital speed of 107,030 mph.

Earth:  The Earth is 4,540 million years old. It is not a true sphere, but is flattened at the poles. The area of the surface is estimated to be 196,937,400 miles square and the volume about 256,875,300,000 miles cubic square miles.

The mass of the Earth is 6.6 sextillion tons and the density is 5.515 times that of water. The Earth picks up cosmic dust, but estamates of the amount vary from 33,000 tons a year being its upper limits. The true period of axial rotation, i.e., the true sidereal day is 23 hours 56 minuets 4.0989 seconds.

The equatorial diameter {7,926.3803 miles } is 26.5757 miles larger than the polar diameter of 7,899.8046 miles. The Earth has a pair-shaped asymmetry, with the north polar radius being 148 ft longer than the south polar radius. There is also a slight ellipticity of the equator, since its major diameter at  longitude 14.96 West is 456 feet longer than its minor axis. The greatest cercumferance of the Earth at the equator is 24,901. 901 miles, compared with 24,859.731 miles at the meridian. The Earth rotates on its axis at 1,037.560 miles per hour and travels 584,018,400 miles in it orbit around the Sun.

Comets are a part of the solar system and orbit the sun in elongated paths. Untill thay approach the sun, Comets are dark chunks of rock and ice. Closer to the suns radiation some of the material is vaporized. dust and gas spurt from the nucleus,or core,to form the comets head,or coma, and tail.
