History of Rolehaven

10 years have passed.....

Prelude: Rolehaven and the surrounding lands of Ravenna are ruled by King Garath, who with his council and champions, manages to hold the Kingdom together despite the near constant assualts by forces both mortal and magical. The worshippers of Grom vanish from the lands, leaving behind their mighty temple. Without the Gromites to defend the walls of the temple, a force of Chaotic avatars appears in Rolehaven and in a series of assualts razes the Gromite Temple, erecting a Temple dedicated to Chaos Undivided and protected by the Avatars of the four major Chaos powers. Garath is seen less and less, staying mostly in his castle for whatever unknown reason weighs upon his brow. 10 years ago: The Chaos Avatars are slain by a small group of adventurers wielding four of the Swords of Legend (Woundhealer, Foeseeker, Stonebreaker and Wayfinder). Believing the threat of the temple is now abated, it is mostly ignored by the adventures of Rolehaven who have turned their attention to more immediate threats. Unchecked, the Temple grows in power, albeit in secret, and prepares to strike. 9 years ago: The combined forces of the Chaos Temple unleash their power upon the land, striking with sudden and unpredictable fury. Most of the Lesser heroes of Rolehaven are slaughtered outright by the Chaotic onslaught, while the Greater heroes are forced to retreat to their Sactums and Keeps to regroup and heal. The town of Rolehaven is burned to the ground in a column of Demonic fire rising into the heavens. Creatures of Chaos roam the land, spreading death and corruption in their wake. 7 years ago: The Baron Dairogan, from his Fortress-Monastery on the boundries of Ravenna, sends word to the greatest heroes of Rolehaven asking for their aid in breaking the grip of the Chaotic forces on their cherished land. Though many do not respond to the call to arms, enough do. Dairogan is joined by Bran McCain, Jean Vier, The Fires of Beltane, The Gromites, Voltar, Lazarus, Warik, Voltimise, Hawkeye, Habib, and others. A promise of aid is recieved from the castle of King Garath. Battleplans are drawn using the Fortress-Monastery as a staging base, as theheroes prepare for war. After a series of probing raids, the initial assualt is launched. The four main strongholds of the chaos temple are assualted and razed in rapid sucession by the heroes, throwing the Chaotic armies into disarray. Seizing the initive and capitalizing on the disarray of the Chaotic forces, the Main attack is launched. The battle plan consists of combined frontal assualts by Dairogan and his Fortress-Monastery from the Northwest, and King Garath's Ranger Company, led by Trakker, from the Northeast. The remaining heroes are to scale the southern cliffs and strike from behind at the heart of the temple. The Initial attack goes badly when the forces of Garath do not reach the battlefield. Whether they were ambushed or fell prey to dark magic is to this day unknown. Dairogan marshals his forces and storms the gates of the temple, diverting enough attention for the southern forceto breach the unguarded side of the temple and slaughter the temple guardians from within. The fighting rages throgh the night and well into the next day. As sunset approaches, as disturbing calm settles over the battlefield, and the exausted heroes emerge triumphant from the twisted rubble that was once the Temple of Chaos. The threat of the Temple is no more. 6 years ago: The remaining heroes finish the mopping-up actions and go their separate ways. The castle of King Garath lies silent and the kingdom of Rolehaven is absorbed by another kingdom (King Edmond of Woodlynn). Dairogan remains in Rolehaven to rebuild the shattered town. 1 year ago: In recognition of service, Dairogan is appointed Baron of Ravenna. In an effort to ensure the events which destroyed the town do not again occur, he forms the Guilds and charges them with the defense of Rolehaven Present Time: (June 1998) New heroes have arrived in Rolehaven, driven by goals known only to them. 1
