Members of the Court of Mirrored Lakes
"We are not here."
William Shakespeare, "A Midsummer's Night Dream"
Good day good sir or lady! May I present to you the members of the Court of Mirrored Lakes.
Meet...
Duchess Rokzana
Formerly the Duchess of a medium sized Duchy in the Lake Region of the Kingdom of Willows, Duchess Rokzana ap Fiona has recently made a great deal of changes in her life, both mortal and Kithain. Previously, while she still claimed her small Duchy in the Kingdom of Grass and having made peace with the Nunnehi in the region, she was liked by those who dwell within her rule, there was little fear of conflict. Those of House Liam and Scathach were not persecuted there, and even Unseelie were treated with respect. Lady Rokzana was a patron of the arts in the region, and Glamour was not as scarce as in other places. With the sparse population of Kithain in the area, she had to look to some of the other Kith to fill the positions in her court. Many of the Sidhe in surrounding areas were disdainful of this act, but were powerless to do anything about it.
Sained early in 1997, the Duchess has risen quickly through the ranks. It was the peace with the Nunnehi that earned her the title of Duchess the same year she was Sained as well as a small Duchy. She loves formality, and this shows in the traditional manner her court is run in. Etiquette is demanded at all times of those in her presence, but through it all, most agree that she retains the "common touch". She is usually soft spoken, and some have said she has somewhat of a cold presence. Lady Rokzana is of House Fiona, and is not exempt from it's tempestous passions, shown in her flighty manner and whimsical actions. Depending on her mood she can often swing between her Seelie and Unseelie sides, although she is very predominately Seelie.
Now, though, adventure has called. She no longer claims the Duchy in the Court of Mirrored Lakes. Her travels have brought her to the Duchy of the Shattered Oak, where she is has recently established a small freehold. The Duchess rarely holds formal court anymore, but has dedicated her time to raising the Glamour level in the area. While she is gone from the court that she established, they still acknowledge her as the Duchess though. Although she came to the Duchy of the Shattered Oak with two of her closest advisors, she it did not work out. Kneven O'beron and the Duchess had a severe falling out and while he is not an enemy of the Duchess, they are certainly wary of each other. The Duchess otherwise has been sucessful in all her new endeavors, especially in furthering her knowledge of the Arts. As of late, she hasn't had any troubles in this new city, and is well on her way to becoming an established member of the court there.
Kneven O'beron
Although he bears no official title and is actually Kinain with the blood of almost all the Kith in him, Kneven was an important figure in the court. Claiming fealty to House Liam, he has broad knowledge of the supernatural of all types, and was the chief advisior on such areas to the Duchess for three years due to his experience with them. Kneven also served as chief negotiator with the Unseelie when he is around to do so, as he seems to have an innate understanding of them. Many in the court valued his wise advice, which he dispenses at will, although to his chagrin much of his philosophy is too deep for the recipient to understand! When in attendance, he was ne of the most valuable (although not official) members of Lady Rokzana's court, and his influence extended into all areas of the court. This was in no little part due to Lady Rokzana's infatuation with him for the past several years, however, this ended and he left the court.
Kneven himself tends to be introverted, but will respond profoundly when spoken to. He is a true dreamer, and puts out a tremendous amount of Glamour through the stories he writes. He is extremely pessimistic and crabby but can act charming if the absoultely has to. As of late he has completely turned to his Unseelie side, and is often in a state of an angry depression.
Kneven was a favorite throughout the court, but as of recent his wanderlust had brought him to move on in the world seeking new experiences for his stories and this caused him to leave the Duchy for several months. He returned for a short time, but he again left with Duchess Rokzana in search of answers on repairing the once quiet court, and may continue his search at somewhat greater distances than the Duchess, although they do not speak anymore.
Earl Palil Rianidd
Earl Palil may be an unusual choice for a Count, considering the fact that he is not ony Unseelie, but a Nocker as well. However, this does nothing to diminish his competance as clever advisior to the Duchess. In fact, he was one of the court members who also left the Duchy with Rokzana to attempt to discover the forces behind the events earlier last year. As one of the higher ranking as well as older members of the court, the Earl was entrusted with the defences of the Duchy- making sure that there is no threat of outside attack from anything ranging from chimera to Nunnehi to banality. Also included in his position was seeing that the Duchy has adequite means to protect itself- machines that he designs and builds himself that often look like high tech "toys"- for examlpe remote control helicopters and the like. These are not only used for patrolling the area, but have some powerful chimerical weapons built into them. No one doubted that they were safe in the Court of Mirrored Lakes with Count Palil around. Lately he left the company of Duchess Rokzana when Kneven O'bereon left.\ as the two of them were always close. While he is on better terms with the Duchess than Kneven is, their paths do not corss anymore.
Personally, there probably isn't a more easy going member in the court than Palil. Although he has a little of the crassness of the typical Nocker, he isn't anal about it. No house can boast him as a member- yet another oddity to outsiders about him being a higher noble within the court, but to those within the court it doesn't come as a surprise. Generally, he is probably one of the most well liked fae by the others in the Duchy- and none of the local Kithain can get away with throwing a party where he is NOT in attendance, a fact that bothers no one.
Baroness Astenna Ibyr
This recently Sained Boggan is one of the newest members of the Court. Fairly untypical in looks, she's the motherly figure in te court who takes care of the other fae. For this, she has been also been placed as the Hearld of the Duchy, to keep in contact with her on matters of the Duchy while she is away. And all would agree that this energeric boggan fits the bill for that one perfectly, as she loves to talk. One of her primary functions within the Duchy is to monitor the general level of Glamour, and to warn against oncoming bouts of Banality so another tragedy like the one which occured in the summer of 99 doesn't occur again. While she has moved out of the immidate area of the Duchy, she is still close enough to keep an eye on it.
A busy figure among the court, Lady Astenna is extremely fun loving, and not at all the typical dowdy Boggan. Outgoing and musically talented, she is a charming companion and an understanding friend. Since her Saining she has been a great friend and confidante to the Duchess, and it is safe to say that she is quite knowing about the Duchess' personal life as much as anyone in the court. However, she doesn't have the strong tendancy to gossip about private affairs as most Boggans do.
Count Dwearin (Ady) Branah
The only other Sidhe in the Court, Count Ady (as he is fondly known as)is being primed to rule over the Duchy when the Duchess is gone. A member of House Gwidion, he is as upright as one could want in a temporary ruler and the duchess has few qualms about leaning the Duchy in his care. Currently he is serving as Chancellor to get a feel for running things. Although he is the youngest member of the court,(just barely a Wilder) he is fair, kind and quite intellectual although sometimes his ideals can cloud his vision. Sained roughly a year and a half ago, many have known of his impending Fae nature and knew that it was only a matter of time before his Chrysalis. Because of that the atmosphere around him has been kept Glamour-filled, and he was been brought quite properly into Fae society- not surprising for a member of House Gwydion.
Earl Dwearin is a fun loving Sidhe, however, and not at all the arrogant noble most of House Gwydion are assumed to be. He is extrememly creative, and has shown an aptitude for performing. With his laid-back attitude, the switch between rulers should not be a difficult one, as Ady also posseses the "Common Touch". He should prove a competent ruler in the months to come, dispite the qualms about his Unseelie brother (who is also a member of the court) having too much influence on him.
Sir Tutian Rimien
is
technically a knight of the realm, but more realistically the title was awarded for outstanding magical
capabilities. One of the Kithain so survive the recent onslaught of Banality, this Sluagh is very proficient with the Arts, Sir Tutian heads up the major Chimerical
and Glamour workings in the Duchy. A key intrest of the Tutian is the Sluagh joy of secrets. Although there are few true secrets among the court, rumors abound, and Sir Tutian knows them all, be they true or untrue. These are key to him when he is making deals with other fae in the court. This is also reflectd in his alligence to House Eliuned. He was Sained in early
1998, and has since been a common figure at the court- a rare thing for a Sluagh. But that also may be in part to the fact that he is also the court Seer- as he is apparently gifted in the Art of Soothsay. Each year he leads the festivities on Samhain, seeing that the rituals are all done properly.
As mentioned, Sir Tutian is a very social Sluagh in his own way. He frequents the court, if nothing
more than to learn about the current happenings. Highly perceptive, he enjoys learning all he can
about the various fae of the court. Sir Tutian also is active in the technology branch of the court,
which frightens the other Kithain of the court for the danger of the Banility involved.
Often times in the past Sir Tutian and Duchess Rokzana were known for their huge fights over false rumors and such that would pass around the court. Lately though, he has become the most trusted advisor of the Duchess in all areas and they are now extremely close. Sir Tutian often returns to the Court of Mirrored Lakes to monitor the progress of Earl Dwearin and see that the court is still in order. He is also a confidante of the Earl and often acts as a go-between between the Earl and the Duchess.
Lord Jodar Branah
an Eshu
who has consented to remain at the court for some time, is a highly respected Count in the Duchess's
court. He is highly esteemed for his social abilities, and leads any social delegation committees that
are appointed. None are able to best him in a debate, and this talent has made him invaluable to
Duchess Rokzana. Earl Jodar was awarded with an urban County containing the freehold of Her Grace- surprising, as this Count claims alleigance to the Unseelie House Ailil.
To fill his wanderlust- which is small compared to most Eshu, he is sent out to speak on behalf of the Duchy, and at times even Rokzana
herself. A natural leader, he has no trouble in the political manuverings and manipulations at court.
However, the Earl himself is a withdrawn and observant Kithain. He is confidant his abilities, and at
times can be prodded into telling the most fantastic stories of past doings. This is why he is considered one of the troubadours of the Court of Mirrored Lakes. He is outwardly friendly,
altough this is not to say that he does not have a very agressive streak in him. Most of the others in
the court like Earl Jodar greatly, and are pleased to have him as company, as he can be very elusive
at times.
Currently Earl Jodar has also left hte Duchy- wandersust of the Eshu. However, he also returns very often to see that things are in order.
Sir Merasa Jeroba
Yes, Sir Merasa. She is one of the few actual warriors within the Duchy, and this Troll has insisted on being called "sir"- a habit that is starting to become more standard within the female knights as opposed to "Dame". Although she isn't "simply huge" like many Trolls are, she makes up for lack of size with spirit. An ardent defender of the Duchy, she is also constantly scouting for new fae going through their Chrysalis and eager to take them under her wing until they are ready to become Sained by the court. She has a pet project where she involves those she finds most promising, and is able to subject them to a fair amount of Glamour before they realize their fae self so everything doesn't come as such a shock to them. Sir Merasa also is in charge of training squires who wish to be knights for the court someday, which she does through the same means as she watches those she suspects of having a fae soul.
Brought through her Chrysalis by the Duchess herself, the two have remained close friends since then, and it was Merasa who did the most to combat the wave of Banality that hit early in the summer of '99. While in heritage she is a true Troll (she is a member of the Sons of Norway), her looks are deciving. While she sports the pale skin of the Nordic, she also has flame red hair that only becomes brighter in her fae seeming and has earned her the nickname "Fire" within the court. She openly proclaims to be psychotic, and while that may be somewhat of an overstatement, it is not doubted by any that she has the lowest Banality and the most Glamour in the fae of the Duchy.
This page is in memory of those fae that were lost when an unforseen wave of Banality hit those fae who would be moving away from the Duchy in search of new adventure. This unexpected force claimed three loyal fae: Lord Driede, Lady Maya, and Earl Danir. The court was greatly saddened by this loss, and we hope that someday Glamour will find a way to re-enter their lives and bring them back once again.
