Noble Society
"O What men dare do! What men may do! What men daily do not knowing what they do!"
~William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing
Greetings! I'm so terribly pleased that you've come to learn about the sacred place the Sidhe and other nobles hold in Kithain society. Well, take a seat, and let's begin.
The Kithain Society, as you all already know, brings to life the Feudal System of leige and vassal. We occupy the place of leige. We are required to protect those below us, and they in return will support us. But you already know that too. So what does being a Noble in Kithain society really mean? You are trusted with a domain, be it a freehold, a city or a whole Kingdom. Be prepared to defend it not only on a battlefield, but in words. An eloquent response to a slander will perhaps not only bring you respect, but more for your domain as well. We are also charged with upholding the traditions of the fae and the code of laws we set down. Although many commoner Kithain scoff at these decorations to society, we know the importance of upholding what the past has taught us. The upkeep of the trods and freeholds has also largely fallen on our shoulders, You will remember that when we returned from Arcadia in 1969, a majority of the trods were in disrepair, and there were almost nil Fae in the Dreaming. We reopned these roads and have made the Dreaming accessable again to all Fae. Keeping the peace has also always been a duty of the Sidhe. It is especially difficult now that we have been gone for several hundreed years and the Commoner fae no longer trust us, but we must fufill our duties, so we take advantage of the infighting of the other Kith. A dirty trick, perhaps, but who will complain about the decrease in disputes? Our place in society is almost comparable to that of policeman at times, but largely it consists of keeping hte Dreaming alive in the hearts of all Kithain in anyway possible.
Secret Societies
As nobles, our society abounds with mini societies and groups within it. They have different goals and outlooks, snd this is merely a smattering of them:
Red Branch Knights These knights decked all in various shades of Red are known for their bravery, honor, and skill in combat. They are all oathbound to each other, and will help anyone in need. They take all of their work extremly seriously. Any noble Sidhe who has honorable can enlist their help, provided the cause is one the nights deem acceptable, and trust them to do the job thouroughly.
The Beltane Blade This group of predominantly Traditionalists work to empower the Feudal Nobility. They are exclusively Sidhe. The Blade is violent and ruthless to an extreme. Many Sidhe are invilved in this group, as it is a powermonging group. This is where many of the bad names given to the Nobles originate from. Personally speaking, I discourage them from my Duchy, for although I agree with the Sidhe right to rule, rule by force is unacceptable.
The Crystal Circle is a group of the most powerful fae sorcerers. The requirements for joining is to totally master one Art and be quite good at using at least one other. In outlooks, they are similar to the Red Branch, and are known to travel deep into the Dreaming. Their present goals are unknown by all but the actual members. I recommend having one in your court, as their extensive magical powers are useful in all areas of court. Most are apporachable, if not a little eccentric.
The Golden Sickle These nobles are primarily concerned with collecting wealth in the mortal world. However, they tend to have higher Banality than other Fae. Many fae aviod them, fearing that their embrace of the mortal world iwll bring down the Fae. Watch them to be sure they don't fall prey to the Dauntain and become ones themselves.
The Cat's Cradle This is the most secretive group of all the Fae. It consists of only females of both Seelie and Unseelie dispositions. They are attempting to ensure the survival of the Fae into the future, and especially the possiblilty of the on coming Winter. the women are a noble group, and I believe the embodiment of how all Noble society should work.
The Ranters are a collection of commoners who hate the Nobility. Organized in small groups, they carry out acts of terrorism on the Nobles. As a side note, the Ranters are officialy outlawed by High King David. Beware them, my fellows.
The Catacomb Club is put together by commoner Nobles trying to regain their old status before the Resurgance. Beware them, they are the Commoner equavalent to the Beltaine Blade.
And perhaps the most dangerous of all...
The Monkey's Paw , a group of assasins. They are highly secritive, and almost comeletely Unseelie. However, they hire themselves to the highest bidder, and it is not unknown for a Seelie noble to hire one. Beware.
Those are all of the larger, known societies within or affacting noble Kithan Society.
Now, I do hope that you've learned something about Noble Society and the Societies what exsist within it.
