THE POWER OF LOVE
Story 2

"I hold your body,
feel each move you make,
Your voice is warm and tender,
a love I could not forsake."
Celine Dion "The Power of Love"

"Every now and then I know you'll never be the boy
you always wanted to be,
But every now and then I know you'll always be the
the only boy who wanted me the way that I am"
Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse of the heart"

Part I "Total Eclipse of the Heart"

"Rogue and Gambit certainly have been busy these last three weeks." Hank grinned at Bobby.

"Why do you think I've been sleeping down here in the med lab, and so have you buddy!" Bobby shook his head.

"Yes, since Rogue absconded with one of the neutralizing collars for her own use it has been rather noisy near Gambit's room.

Scott walked in the lab then, ending the conversation with his own comment. "They've managed to have enough energy to perform on the missions, that's what's important."

Hank and Bobby exchanged raised eyebrow looks, but knew better then say something. Scott was rather single minded about these things.

"A mutant terrorist group is causing mayhem near the UN building, we all need to go this time." Scott said, leaving the room. Hank and Bobby looked at each and shrugged, then followed Scott.

"Mayhem, indeed." Hank commented as the Blackbird neared the scene. Rogue, Storm and Warren readied themselves to fly out the bottom hatch. Rogue was already floating, holding onto Remy under his arms. Remy looked up at her and said, "Je t'aime, ma coeur."

"Ah love yah too, shugah."

Their eyes showed their depth of emotions at this moment. One never knew, unless you were a precognitive, if this battle would be your last. The X-Men had lost members over the years in battle- not many, due to the mutantancy, but there was more than one gravestone in the cemetery. No one ever voiced it, but it was in everyone's eyes.

It was soon obvious that they had needed everyone on this mission. They all had their hand full fighting. Rogue had risked a quick glimpse to see how Remy was doing and if he needed help. The explosion of light temporary blinded her. When her sight cleared she saw the three guys Remy had fighting picking themselves up from the ground, but no Remy. In a rage, Rogue flew at them. "Y'all killed Remy!" She flung them into walls, wanting them dead. Thankfully she hadn't killed them yet when Hank reached her and grabbed her yelling, "No, Rogue stop, they're unconscious!""That's better than they left Remy!"

"Rogue, they may not be responsible! The Blackbird picked up a temporal disturbance right where Gambit-"

"Was." Rogue finished the sentence and slumped her shoulders. The fight was over, the terrorist group had either fled or were lying unconscious. They heard police sirens and decided it was time to leave. The police would more than likely arrest them as well, despite the fact they had been protecting the public.

When the X-men returned to the mansion Rogue flew out of the Blackbird and straight to Remy's room. She locked the door behind her and flung herself on his bed. She could smell his unique masculine scent all over the pillow and sheets. She sobbed into the pillows, clutching them tight.

For three days she refused to come out. The two members who knew Rogue and Gambit best were concerned for her, but knew she needed this time alone. Logan, especially, understood what it meant to lose the person you committed your life to. Mariko often came to his thoughts now. Ororo thought of Remy, how they had met, how he would constantly put himself down, but again and again prove himself the most loyal and true friend. Then there was his love for Rogue and hers for him. Ororo had watched her two friends fall in love, deeply and intensely. She watched their relationship start, hit a crisis, then return even stronger. They grew with their relationship, Rogue especially had grown, but she had more to overcome than Remy.

On the fourth morning Rogue woke and felt like she had eaten something bad yesterday. Ah didn't eat yesterday, or the day before, not since...He can't be dead.... The nausea became unbearable and she rushed to the bathroom, but all she had were dry heaves. After it passed she sat on the floor and caught her breath. She began to think, could ah be...Oh please, let it be so...If ah'm pregnant, ah'll...ah'll have something of Remy to love...some proof o' our love... Rogue quickly flew down to the med lab. She ran the scan to detect a pregnancy. She almost cried when she saw the results. She was carrying three babies. It was too early to tell their genders, but they were five weeks from conception and were developing healthy. Oh Remy, you'd be so happy! She did cry then.

After she felt in control of her emotions again, she flew back upstairs. She would have to tell the others now.

"Only the Cajun could get you pregnant with three at once." Logan responded in typical fashion.

"Now I'll have to reshuffle the teams again!" Scott complained. Everyone was aware of Professor Xavier's rule that no female X-member would be allowed on missions during her pregnancy.

"Perhaps you could finish your bachelor's degree in social studies. I volunteer to supervise your course of study." Hank offered.

"Thanks Hank. It'll be nice tah have somethin' tah occupy mah mind for these next eight months."

"You may have begun your master degree program by the time the children are born." Storm smiled. "I will help you with the children, if you wish." The look on Storm's face showed her sincerity.

"Thanks Storm, with three, ah'll probably need it."

Jean chimed in, "I'd be happy to help with the babies too, and anything you need beforehand."

"Me too." Sam said cheerfully. "I had a bunch o' younger brothers and sisters, ah helped Mama take care o' them..."

"I can get you things too." Bobby interrupted.

Almost everyone readily offered to give her any help she needed. It was strange to Rogue being the center of everyone's attention and concern. Well, everyone but Scott, Warren, and Betsy. Bobby had even joked in his slightly unthinking way about the first real X-babies being LeBeau's. Rogue had smiled, but it had brought up sharply Remy's absence.}
